From Trash to Treasure: The Sinclair Family's Beloved Genius
Chapter 449 - 443: Trafficking
What he didn’t know, however, was that after seeing these comments, the production team had also begun to consider how feasible this was.
The cameraman assigned to Chloe Sinclair also had no idea that his life was about to turn into a living hell.
Despite someone following and filming her for the live broadcast, Chloe Sinclair’s progress wasn’t affected in the slightest.
Only after completing her workout for the day did she ask, "Are there any more tasks today?"
At this moment, Chloe Sinclair’s bangs were soaked with sweat, clinging to her temples. Tiny beads of perspiration dotted her fair skin, and from afar, it made her appear all the more luminous.
The cameraman was the closest to her, and he couldn’t help but think that Chloe Sinclair was even prettier in person than she appeared in videos.
If anything, the video didn’t do her justice.
"There are no activities this morning. At eight o’clock, the guests can go to the village entrance to collect their meals."
Chloe Sinclair nodded.
She glanced at the time—there was still half an hour until they could get their meals.
So she said, "I’m going to go wash up first."
After exercising for over two hours, her clothes were soaked through. The skin on her back felt sticky and uncomfortable.
There was no central heating in the south, so even with a heat lamp, it still felt cold.
Chloe Sinclair just took a quick rinse and got out.
At eight o’clock, Chloe Sinclair went to the village entrance right on time and picked up breakfast for herself and Gabriel Sinclair.
The production team had prepared a total of seven breakfasts, each one different.
The most lavish breakfast even included minced meat, while the last-place prize was just a bowl of thin congee.
She was the first to arrive at the village entrance; no one else was there yet.
Chloe Sinclair took two of the more average-looking breakfasts and headed back.
Just as she returned to the villa, Gabriel Sinclair, having just woken up, was coming downstairs.
He froze for a moment when he saw Chloe Sinclair.
"Little Sis, where have you been?"
"I got you breakfast. Hurry up and eat."
Chloe Sinclair placed the breakfast on the table. She knew Gabriel Sinclair liked fried dough sticks, so she gave him half of hers.
Gabriel Sinclair was pleasantly surprised. "Little Sis, you’re the best."
’She knew I liked fried dough sticks and even gave me half of hers.’
’Did I save the planet in a past life to deserve such a wonderful sister?’
Gabriel Sinclair picked up a fried dough stick and took a big bite.
Because it had been a while since she went to get it, the fried dough stick was already cold by the time Gabriel Sinclair ate it.
But it was still absolutely perfect with the millet porridge.
After finishing breakfast, Gabriel Sinclair and Chloe Sinclair went for a walk around the village.
The village they were in wasn’t large. With less than fifty households in total, it was a small hamlet.
The scenery in Yarrow Province was beautiful. Even in a small village like this, the views were breathtaking.
Gabriel Sinclair snapped away, taking quite a few photos along the way.
He arranged them into a nine-photo grid and posted it on his social media.
In just a short while, it had hundreds of thousands of likes.
However, as they walked past one house, Chloe Sinclair faintly heard a commotion inside, along with a man’s low shout.
Chloe Sinclair stopped in her tracks.
Gabriel Sinclair, walking behind her, saw her strange reaction and was confused.
"What’s wrong?"
Chloe Sinclair frowned. "Did you hear that?"
Gabriel Sinclair: "???"
He subconsciously looked around before shaking his head.
"Is something wrong? I didn’t hear anything."
Chloe Sinclair’s brow furrowed slightly, her dark, steady gaze fixed on the dilapidated house in front of them.
"The sound came from inside. I heard a woman’s voice."
And it wasn’t just that.
Her hearing was exceptional. As long as she was close enough and listened intentionally, she could hear things that ordinary people couldn’t.
"CRASH—"
The moment Chloe Sinclair finished speaking, a loud clattering sound erupted from inside the house, like the piercing noise of porcelain shattering on the floor.
Chloe Sinclair’s expression darkened. Realizing something was wrong, she wanted to go in and check the situation.
But Gabriel Sinclair stopped her.
"Why are you stopping me?"
Gabriel Sinclair explained, "The gate is closed. The villagers might get upset if we just go in."
There was a fence around the earthen house, with a large wooden gate in the middle.
Chloe Sinclair glanced at it, then heard a faint cry for help again.
The next second, Chloe Sinclair shot out her long leg, and with a loud CRACK, the wooden gate was kicked open, slamming against the fence.
Gabriel Sinclair: "..."
’Holy shit, that was so fucking violent!’
’When did my sister become so damn strong?’
Gabriel Sinclair’s eyes were wide with terror. The cameraman’s hands were trembling, and he exchanged a look with Gabriel.
The two of them entered the house, practically holding each other up.
But as soon as they entered, they realized something was wrong.
The door to the main room was wide open. A glance inside revealed shattered stools and tables, the floor littered with debris.
And from the next room, they could hear a woman’s soft sobs.
Their entrance had been loud, and the person in the next room immediately came out to see what was happening.
It was a man in his forties. He had a small scar between his eyebrows, an aquiline nose, and a vicious look in his eyes.
He froze when he saw them, then said impatiently, "Who the hell are you? Get out!"
Chloe Sinclair tilted her head slightly. From her angle, she could see a woman lying on the floor inside the room.
The woman looked very young, but her hair was disheveled, her face was wan, and her lips were as pale as paper. A trickle of fresh, red blood ran down her forehead.
"You hit a woman."
Chloe Sinclair’s voice was low, like a bone-chillingly cold wind.
The man instinctively looked at Chloe Sinclair, and alarm bells went off in his head. He sensed danger from her.
But he still shot back, "I’m beating my own woman. It’s none of your fucking business."
Chloe Sinclair: "A grown man, hitting a woman?"
Her face was full of scornful mockery. "You’ve really got some nerve."
The woman had a fresh wound on her forehead, but there were other bruises on her face. Her thin calves were covered in welts from a whip. It was clear she had been tortured for a long time.
"Your wife is a human being! She’s a person first, and your wife second! How could you fucking hit your wife? You’re an animal!"
Gabriel Sinclair had just noticed the blood on the woman’s face and was stunned.
He glared angrily at the man. "I’m calling the police right now! Let’s see what you do when they get here!"
As he spoke, he started to pull out his phone to make the call.
The man’s eyes narrowed, and he snatched Gabriel Sinclair’s phone.
Caught off guard, Gabriel Sinclair’s phone was swatted to the ground.
Suddenly, the room fell silent.
But the comment section was anything but calm.
"Holy shit, what’s happening right now?"
"Did a fight just break out?"
"Even Gabriel Sinclair started cursing. You can tell how pissed he is."
"My God, there’s actually domestic violence happening. That woman’s face is covered in blood. Someone call the police, quick."
"You can tell that guy is bad news just by looking at him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a few bodies on his conscience."
"Hasn’t anyone noticed how young that woman is?"
"Holy shit, now that you mention it, I see it too. What kind of irresponsible parents would marry their daughter off to a guy like that?"
Meanwhile, the man noticed the camera, and his face instantly darkened.
"What are you doing? Stop filming me!"
The man reached out to block the camera.
But as soon as his hand was outstretched, a slender, fair wrist suddenly clamped down on it.
Before he could react, a sharp pain shot through his wrist, and the man couldn’t help but cry out.
"That woman in the room... I’m guessing she’s not your wife, is she?"
"Hm?"
Chloe Sinclair’s lips curled into a slight smile, but her eyes were ice-cold.
The man was now so stunned he forgot the pain in his hand. He jerked his head up and stared at her in disbelief.
Chloe Sinclair’s suspicion was confirmed.
She pulled out her phone and brought up a website in her browser, which displayed a page full of photos.
Chloe Sinclair said, "This is her, isn’t it?"
The photo showed a beautiful young woman.
And the text underneath was a missing person notice.
The man’s pupils contracted, and he looked at Chloe Sinclair, his face a mask of astonishment.
"You’re mistaken! That photo isn’t her!"
"If it’s not her, why are you getting so worked up?"
Chloe Sinclair flung the man’s hand away.
The man stumbled back several steps, his hand hanging limply at his side.
"I’ll have you arrested!"
Chloe Sinclair shrugged indifferently. "I have no objection if you want to call the police over."
As she spoke, her gaze fell on the woman lying on the floor, whose eyes were filled with hope.
Without giving the man another glance, she walked past him and into the room.
This room was even messier than the living room outside, with clothes strewn all over the floor. Chloe Sinclair’s eyes scanned the area, and when she saw something on the bed, her pupils contracted.
She knelt down to look at the woman, her voice trembling slightly as she asked, "Do you want to go home?"
A flicker of life returned to the woman’s eyes, but it took a long moment for her to respond.
"I... I want to go home."
The woman struggled to say, "I was trafficked here."
It was as if she had summoned every ounce of her courage to say that sentence.
The man’s expression changed. He rushed over and raised his hand to slap her.
"What the fuck are you talking about? You’re my woman! There’s no need to throw a fit and take it this far!"
The woman’s head snapped to the side. Trembling, she looked at the man, not daring to speak again.
In the live stream chat, users were constantly sharing the broadcast. In just five minutes, the number of viewers skyrocketed into the tens of millions.
A massive wave of traffic flooded the stream.
The technicians in the background saw this and were shocked. If they hadn’t caught it early, the entire platform probably would have crashed.
"That woman was actually trafficked!"
"I knew something was weird! That guy has to be at least forty, but the woman looks so young. You could tell me she’s a college student and I’d believe it."
"Hurry up and call the police! This is huge. If it’s true, it’s already a serious legal matter."
"Am I the only one who thinks they’re just putting on a show? How could it be such a coincidence? They just happen to be passing by, just happen to hear a faint cry for help, and then just happen to uncover a human trafficking case."
"Finally, someone said it! I think it’s weird too. Chloe Sinclair is laying it on too thick. Nobody else heard a thing, but she did? How is that possible!"
"Isn’t being a pretentious show-off Chloe Sinclair’s whole deal? Didn’t expect her to crash and burn today. So satisfying to watch."
"She’s acting like she wants to get arrested."
