As they spoke, the old master had already concocted an entire soap opera in his mind, a tragic tale of forced love among the wealthy.

Chloe Sinclair didn’t know what the old master was thinking, but seeing his expression—a mix of disappointment and a struggle to find the right words—left her with a tangle of emotions, unsure of what to say.

It seemed any explanation she offered now would be futile.

The old master’s opinion of Jasper Shaw seemed to be set in stone.

When Chloe Sinclair said nothing, the old master grew even more certain he was right.

A pang of pain shot through his heart, believing his guess was correct.

"Chloe, if you don’t want to be with Jasper Shaw, Grandpa will back you up today. I’ll help you leave him."

"Don’t worry, he absolutely wouldn’t dare to retaliate against you."

Chloe Sinclair was speechless.

It was only then that she realized the old master had, in the span of a single minute, imagined an entire dramatic saga of forced love and power plays.

Chloe Sinclair’s lips twitched. ’I wonder what Jasper would think if he heard Grandpa say that,’ she thought.

"Grandpa, it’s really not what you think."

Chloe Sinclair’s tone was tinged with helplessness, but she spoke with great patience. "My feelings for Jasper Shaw are genuine. He didn’t force me into anything."

That was why she regarded the old master as family.

The old master froze. A hint of red crept into his deep-set eyes as some thought came to him. He stared intently at Chloe Sinclair, his gaze lingering on her for a long time.

After what felt like an eternity, the old master finally looked away. His tone grew somber as he said, "Good."

His voice suddenly became heavy, his gaze lowering. "Chloe, life hasn’t been easy for Jasper. His mother passed away when he was young, and his father... well, you know how he is. Jasper has all sorts of people around him, and I’m getting old. There are things I can’t handle anymore, and there were many times I failed to guide him properly."

After speaking, the old master fell silent for a moment, as if hesitant. But he continued, "Jasper can be a bit sullen, and he has a bad temper, but he’s not a bad person. In the future, if he makes you angry, you can hit him or yell at him. But Grandpa hopes... that you’ll never talk about leaving him."

He had watched Jasper Shaw grow up.

While Jasper Shaw’s temper wasn’t the best, he had known the boy through and through for all these years.

The old master hoped his grandson could find a good life partner.

Chloe Sinclair was a good girl, so the old master naturally hoped the two of them would stay together for a long, long time.

Chloe Sinclair didn’t speak for a long moment.

His words left her slightly stunned as she recalled the old master saying the same thing to her before.

Only back then, she hadn’t been willing to listen.

She had turned the house upside down every day, threatening divorce at the slightest provocation.

’Looking back now,’ she wondered, ’was Grandpa terribly disappointed in me then?’

As Chloe Sinclair thought this, her eyes reddened. She looked at the old master and said with solemn sincerity, "Grandpa, please don’t worry. I will build a good life with Jasper Shaw from now on."

Hearing this, the old master’s expression faltered for a second before he slowly nodded.

"That’s good. That’s good."

After talking for so long, the old master was starting to get tired.

Seeing this, Chloe Sinclair quickly said, "Grandpa, let me help you back to your room to rest."

The housekeeper, who had been standing by ready to help the old master up, heard this and shrewdly drew back her hand. She took a step back, moving to stand behind them.

Once they reached the old master’s room, the housekeeper said, "Miss Chloe, you should go downstairs and rest. I can take care of the old master from here."
