From Human to Skeleton: Revived with Infinite System Crystals
Chapter 930 - 930: The Missing Finger Opens Nothing
The black rail punched through Kestra's floor between Jade's boots.
She caught Ty's skull against her stomach before the rising iron knocked it from her coat. Five bars unfolded across the bare patch and drove their ends into the closed lock faces, each one dragging a strip of floor upward. The joined weight bowed the boards beneath her.
Outside, the relocation wagon dropped far enough to wrench a shout from both worker lines.
"Hold that wheel where Varo named the tooth."
Nessa's order came through the chained door. Leather strained, the supervisor hook struck wood, and the wagon stopped with one corner lower than the others.
Jade set Ty's skull on the folded end of her coat. His right forearm rolled from the service door and struck the nearest frame bar wrist first. Thumb, middle finger, ring finger, and little finger spread into four shallow beds.
The empty bed between thumb and middle finger pulled on a bone that was nowhere in the room.
Ty's jaw ground against the cloth.
"That is the old right index wound pulling again."
"I can see which part of you they ordered."
The frame tightened around his four fingers. Beneath the wagon, six leather brackets began closing toward the receipt boards strapped above them.
Across the storehouse, Ty's left hand slipped beneath Tovan's breathing cup. Tovan caught the rim against his chest and lost the end of one breath. Dessel drove his good heel harder into Ty's pelvis as the lower spine tried to cross the floor.
"Your right hand may answer after my next breath finishes."
Ty flattened his left palm under the cup again. The motion pulled his captured wrist deeper into the frame.
Jade had his skull in both hands and still lacked enough of him to keep everybody where they belonged. She lowered one knee across the loose ribs before the chain could drag them toward his wrist.
Brinna yelled through the door.
"My side loses the hook if those brackets gain another inch."
Varo answered from farther down the lane.
"My wheel stays fixed until the front hinge breaks or Nessa calls the drop."
One of Ty's chained ribs lifted from the floor.
Jade trapped it beneath Kestra's brass repair clamp before Ty could angle it toward the empty grip. His skull turned enough to watch her do it.
"The rib could brace that space without pretending to be a finger."
"Your ribs keep becoming public tools whenever strangers build a bad machine."
"Six people are hanging over the route while we argue about ownership."
"Then help me make the builders spend what they brought."
Ty flexed the four fingers already caught in the frame. The missing bed pulled harder. Jade's coat pocket tugged toward it, carrying the recovered piece from his left hand.
She removed the short phalanx and laid it across the grip beds without seating it. The frame passed beneath the bone and kept searching toward Ty's absent right index. It rejected the left hand while carrying enough hidden weight to close.
Kestra dropped her numbered chain over the center bar. One end wrapped Ty's captured wrist. The other slipped between two plates and snapped downward hard enough to burn a red line across Kestra's palm.
She wound the chain around her forearm. Her white fingers closed over one greasy link, and cold numbed the wrist before the Reaper could follow the pull below the floor. Jade opened that hand and let Kestra carry the chain.
The second grip carried a pulse. A pump shoved it forward, and the beat sagged until the next stroke. Ty's missing finger pulled as a clean absence. Whatever waited below had tissue and somebody else's machinery forcing it to work.
"Two grips are billing my floor, and only one belongs to the skeleton in front of me."
Jade looked at the links disappearing beneath the frame. Every third one carried black grease. The clean links between them jerked in time with a second pull below the wagon.
The operators had brought another hand.
Jade pushed the left phalanx back into her pocket and raised her voice toward the door.
"Nessa, can your recovered finger bend that rail without entering any lock?"
Gray cloth scraped outside.
"It can cross the rail and keep its joints closed."
"Pin their retreat until they carry their own weight."
The recovered field finger struck the black rail sideways. Its four plated joints flattened across the metal while Nessa held the broken wrist inside the packing cloth. The rail tried to drop. West Four plating caught beneath the wagon frame and stopped it.
"The shoulder hinge has started cutting through its cloth under the front wheel. You get one exchange before I lower everybody and leave this rail crushed beneath them."
A supervisor hook scraped along the wagon deck.
Brinna's strap yanked it back.
"Touch Nessa's brace again and your own receipt enters the first empty bracket."
All five lock faces pulled inward.
Ty's four fingers bent with them. Jade opened the repair clamp, freed the rib, and locked the brass jaws across his wrist above the frame. She braced the handle against Kestra's wash rail.
"Pull your hand back when I lift, even if the brackets close farther."
"That gamble puts the workers under whatever arrives next."
"They already sent the next thing, and Kestra caught its bill."
Ty looked through the chained doorway. Brinna's strap had stretched into the gap. Varo's wheel clicked once and stopped against the tooth he had named.
His four fingers withdrew together.
Jade hauled on the clamp. Bone scraped out of the grip beds while the missing index pull stayed fixed in the empty one. The frame followed his wrist for half an inch before Kestra's chain snapped tight toward whatever pulled below.
With Ty's side gone, the wagon dropped onto Nessa's sacrificed shoulder hinge and pressed iron through the gray cloth outside. One support bracket folded around an empty receipt board, crushing it flat.
The leather arms closed on boards and left every worker above them.
Ty held his hand above the clamp while the four finger beds scraped at empty air.
"Keep the rib. Make them show their hand."
The second pull beneath Kestra's chain grew frantic. Something struck the underside of the frame twice, and a narrow drawer opened beside the empty index bed with a finger rising inside it.
The digit had one human nail cut too close to the skin. A funeral strap buckle replaced the lowest joint. Whenever the hidden pumps forced the finger straight, three black graft teeth opened along its side. With needle marks circling the cut end beneath a clear sleeve, it bent against the empty grip and missed.
The pump marks around its cut end drew tight. Skin bunched against the clear sleeve, then relaxed when the hidden machine lost pressure. Jade kept her white hand away. Following that pain would give the Reaper a person before Jade knew whether the person could refuse.
She leaned over the frame and spoke into the drawer.
"Seat your copied piece, or Nessa lowers the wagon through your rail and takes the entire frame with it."
Jade kept both hands on Ty's clamp.
"They altered a living piece and never taught it which hand it was replacing."
Kestra pulled one greasy chain link into view.
"Their spare arrived wrapped as equipment, so somebody planned this failure before renting my floor."
Pressure returned through the hidden pumps. The graft teeth caught the edges of the empty bed. Its nail split against iron, and the finger seated far enough to carry the frame.
The brackets beneath the wagon stopped closing.
Ty's right hand remained above the clamp. His old absence pulled toward the altered digit without joining it. Four grip beds stayed empty around the substitute.
Every route seam stayed shut.
The five lock faces rotated outward and dragged their route seams toward the hidden support. Earth showed for the width of a thread before vanishing. The roof line from Meren crossed the frame and bent downward. Todd's wooden stair struck black metal somewhere beyond the floor. The coffin runner and sideways rain followed, each direction caught around the same load.
Five roads pulled while the frame stayed planted in Kestra's floor. That was what the grip bought, an unmoving piece of prison around routes that refused to stay together. Ty's right index had been prepared as the fifth anchor point, not a key.
He turned his skull inside Jade's folded coat until his teeth faced the substituted grip.
"They want my missing finger because their copied one cannot hold the roads for long."
"Now we know without helping them improve the copy."
The altered finger carried the weight for one turn.
Its buckle tore through the clear sleeve.
Kestra's chain ripped three links below the floor and pulled something solid upward. Plaster broke against the underside of the frame. A square of painted wall arrived between the bars with two copper viewing tubes still bolted through it. Fresh saw marks ran along one edge and continued across the workroom wall visible through the tube.
One tube faced Kestra's storehouse. The other showed the inside of a narrow workroom where four people fought to cut black cords from a table with five edges.
The nearest worker saw Jade looking back.
He reached for a red oil can beside the door.
