Chapter 1526 - 1521: Mrs. Liu Sold the Old Mu Family’s Main House

  • Next Chapter

This time, because of the war, Mu Shuangshuang only took ten days’ worth of dry rations from Xing City, and nothing else.

Everything else would have to be replenished along the way.

Lu Yuanfeng escorted Mu Shuangshuang for more than thirty li; they were already far from Xing City.

Lu Yuanfeng wanted to keep sending her further, but Mu Shuangshuang reined in her horse.

When you send someone a thousand li, there must be a parting in the end; the farther Fengzi sent her, the less he’d be willing to let go.

"Fengzi, this is far enough. Let’s say goodbye here!" Mu Shuangshuang said to the young man she liked standing before her.

Lu Yuanfeng sat on his horse and looked at Mu Shuangshuang in front of him, then nodded.

Before he could react, Mu Shuangshuang suddenly jumped off her horse.

Lu Yuanfeng hadn’t reacted yet when she rushed to the side of his horse.

"Fengzi, lower your head!" Mu Shuangshuang said.

Lu Yuanfeng did as she said and lowered his head; in that instant, Mu Shuangshuang cupped his face and smacked a kiss on him.

Lu Yuanfeng was stunned. He looked at Mu Shuangshuang, the excitement in his eyes impossible to hide.

While he was still dazed, Mu Shuangshuang swung herself back onto her horse.

"Fengzi, I’ll definitely take good care of Yuanbao, Father and Mother, and Little Zhi and Xiao Han! I’ll also keep having people look for your mother. Wait for your triumphant return! Then we’ll get married!"

With that, Mu Shuangshuang whipped the horse; the lash landed on its belly, the horse let out a long snort and shot forward, quickly disappearing from Lu Yuanfeng’s sight.

With no sign of Mu Shuangshuang ahead anymore, Lu Yuanfeng also turned his horse and galloped back toward Xing City...

On the way back to the village, Mu Shuangshuang rode without stopping.

When she came, she’d carried a burning eagerness in her heart, wanting to see Fengzi.

Going back, she carried an equally burning eagerness.

Mu Shuangshuang missed her father, missed her mother, missed Little Zhi, Yuanbao, Xiao Han, and many, many others.

She couldn’t help wondering what kind of days her parents were living now in Er Gui Village.

With this trip, Mu Shuangshuang definitely wouldn’t make it back for New Year; at best she could rush back for the Lantern Festival on the fifteenth of the first month.

She hoped her parents wouldn’t blame her.

——————

The twenty-fourth day of the twelfth lunar month, Little New Year.

Only five or six days left before the New Year, yet the Old Mu Family’s main house was anything but peaceful.

Two matters: one was Mu Zhenzhen and Sun Dali’s marriage, which was just around the corner.

They watched as the Sun family prepared item after item for the wedding.

They watched Granny Sun praise Mu Zhenzhen to everyone she met, saying this time the bride they were marrying in was a bringer of fortune.

They watched as the villagers laughed at them, to their faces and behind their backs, for having their own elder sister steal their man.

Mu Xiangxiang had cried and made scenes, but she simply couldn’t stop this marriage.

So she grew even more overbearing in the Old Mu Family’s house—smashing bowls one day, hacking at tables the next—tormenting Mrs. Liu till she was living in misery.

As for the other matter, it happened to take place on today’s Little New Year.

Originally it should have been a lively, bustling day. Mu Xiangxiang got up early, starving, and searched all over the house for any sign of Mrs. Liu, ready to torment her as usual.

But she went through the whole courtyard front to back and couldn’t find any trace of Mrs. Liu.

She was just about to curse Mrs. Liu out when the front gate of the main courtyard was kicked open.

Right after, a group of big men charged in, each one looking fierce and vicious.

"Who are you lot? How dare you break into our Old Mu Family house, get out!"

Mu Xiangxiang was her usual tough self, yelling curses at the men who’d rushed in.

These men weren’t pushovers either. When they saw Mu Xiangxiang, they were startled for a moment, then the leader pointed at her and said, "You little girl, who are you? What are you doing occupying our Old Ma’s house?"

"Old Ma’s house? You not fully awake yet?" Mu Xiangxiang snorted, her voice cold.

"You stinking girl, don’t refuse to respect the face given to you. I’m officially notifying you: this is our Old Ma’s house now. You get out of here right this instant!" the man bellowed at Mu Xiangxiang.

"If anyone’s getting out, it’s you lot!" Mu Xiangxiang jumped up, refusing to back down and cursing loudly.

The men had never been cursed like this by a woman. One rolled up his sleeves and charged forward, about to beat Mu Xiangxiang.

Mu Xiangxiang wasn’t easy to deal with either. Seeing they were going to hit her, she screamed, "Murder! There are bandits, bandits have come into the village..."

"Help, somebody, save me..."

Mu Xiangxiang’s pig-killing shrieks echoed over the Old Mu Family’s main house.

Because of the business with Mu Zhenzhen’s marriage, everyone’s eyes had already been on Mu Xiangxiang.

Now with her shouting, they responded at once; the nearby neighbors dropped whatever they were doing and all rushed toward the Old Mu Family house.

Apparently they hadn’t expected this situation; the man who’d already raised his hand was so startled he quickly pulled it back.

The villagers who’d come to watch the drama chuckled a few times.

"Misunderstanding! Misunderstanding! Everyone listen to me. I’m a servant of the new owner of this house. My name is Ma Dawen.

The previous owner of this house has already sold it to us. We came today on orders from our Mr. Ma to drive out everyone here who’s not willing to cooperate!"

At Ma Dawen’s words that the house had been sold, the villagers exploded.

"No way? The Old Mu Family sold the house? When the old man and that old woman left, didn’t they say the house wouldn’t be sold?"

"Exactly, leaving it empty doesn’t hurt anything. How’d they suddenly think of selling it?"

"Could this be a joke? Does the village chief know about this? Or are these people actually bandits, here to steal the house?"

"If that’s the case, we can’t let them off. What if they come and seize our houses too?"

Everyone chimed in, each airing their opinions.

Mu Xiangxiang looked completely unconvinced and argued with Ma Dawen.

"You’re talking nonsense. How could our house be sold? My mother knows I’m living here—would my mother do something that betrays me?"

"I don’t care whether it was your mother or your grandmother who sold it—that’s irrelevant to this matter!

All I know is that our Old Ma has the land deed and the house deed. If you know what’s good for you, get out of here early!"

Ma Dawen threatened Mu Xiangxiang viciously.

"What kind of joke is that? You have our land deed? You have our house deed? You think you can fool a three-year-old!

Everyone, look carefully. These people are swindlers. They want to trick me into believing the house is sold so I’ll leave, and then they can occupy the Old Mu Family’s main house."

Most people believed what Mu Xiangxiang said.

Some had even started looking for tools in the Old Mu Family’s courtyard.

Seeing this, Ma Dawen got a bit scared.

His hands trembling, he pulled two sheets of paper from inside his clothes—weren’t the contents precisely a land deed and a house deed?

"Please, could someone go invite the village chief over to carefully examine whether these are real land and house deeds? If they are, then please help our Old Ma and drive out this unreasonable ugly shrew!"
