From Bullets To Billions

Chapter 753: The Right Bet

  • Next Chapter

The special group that had gathered with the sole purpose of eliminating Max had finally decided to move together.

It had become clear that Dipter wouldn’t be enough to defeat Max on his own. Each time Max survived another attack or proved himself capable of handling the people surrounding him, the image they had formed of their opponent changed.

Max had become more dangerous in their minds than they had originally expected.

Even Chad, who knew very little about fighting, could tell that it would be nearly impossible for Max to win against all of them. At least, not without someone helping him.

That was why Chad was desperately trying to do whatever he could.

Compared to Jett and Darius, no one had considered Chad much of a threat. Because of who he was, the men guarding the hostages hadn’t even bothered to tie him properly.

That carelessness had given him a chance.

Chad had allowed himself to fall onto the ground before using his bound feet to slowly push himself across the platform. Once he reached Darius, he immediately began biting at the rope around the man’s wrists.

He dug his teeth into the thick rope and pulled as hard as he could.

Chad worked at it fiercely, ignoring the pain in his jaw and the rough fibres pressing against his mouth.

Come on. These two are strong. I’ve seen them fight.

Jett and Darius might have already lost against the people gathered here, but that didn’t mean they were weak. Their strength could still help Max in some way, especially now that so many powerful opponents were preparing to attack him at once.

Even if they can’t win, they should at least be able to do something.

Chad continued biting through the rope until a section finally began to fray. He tore through one side and then clamped down again, tugging backwards with his entire body.

The rope separated.

Even Darius looked surprised when his restraints finally loosened and fell away from his wrists.

He wasted no time questioning how Chad had managed it. Instead, Darius immediately returned the favour and began untying him.

The moment Chad was free, he rushed to help the other members of his family. Meanwhile, Darius moved over to Jett and started working on his restraints.

Out of all the captives, Jett had been tied the most securely.

The ropes around him were tighter, and he had been restrained in several additional places. Those who had captured him had most likely been afraid that his grip strength would allow him to tear free if there was even a small weakness in the bindings.

"Are we really going to help him?" Jett asked while Darius worked on the ropes. "I know we’re technically under the Billion Bloodline group right now, but we hardly know Max. I’m loyal to you, Darius, not him."

Darius didn’t answer immediately.

He continued loosening one of the knots as he considered their position.

"We could run away," Darius eventually said. "But I have no idea what would happen to the Black Hounds after that. These people don’t feel like a normal syndicate. If they win and we disappear, it could create a serious problem for us when others start trying to take over what we do."

Their escape wasn’t only about surviving the current battle. Whatever decision they made would affect the future of their entire group.

"But joining the fight also means risking our lives," Darius continued. "If you had simply asked whether we should help, I would have told you there was no point. We’ve already seen their strength. Under ordinary circumstances, we would lose no matter what we tried."

Jett agreed with that assessment. It was the reason he had asked the question in the first place.

Neither of them had forgotten how easily they had been defeated and captured.

"However, I would have said the same thing if someone had asked whether Max could defeat us and the Gilt Rats," Darius said. "Yet he managed to succeed."

He paused as he worked through another section of rope.

"More than anything, I trust her judgement more than my own."

"Her judgement?" Jett repeated.

He tried to work out who Darius could be referring to.

"Do you mean Vivian?"

"That’s right," Darius replied. "It was because of her that we managed to expand as much as we did. Then, when the time came to choose a side, she decided to join the Billion Bloodline group."

Vivian’s decision hadn’t been made without thought. She had clearly seen something in Max and his group that Darius and Jett had failed to notice.

"And right now, she’s still on their side," Darius continued. "We didn’t choose the winning side last time, but she always seems to choose it. So this time, I’d like to follow her bet."

Darius finally pulled the last section of rope free.

Jett moved his arms and rose now that he was no longer restrained.

"It looks like you’ve made your decision," Jett said. "I’ll do whatever I can to support it."

Before either of them could move, a shout came from nearby.

"Hey! The hostages have untied themselves! Quick, we have to get them!"

One of the men guarding the platform ran towards them.

He reached Chad first and grabbed him by the scruff of his neck, pulling him backwards before he could finish helping the others.

Karen immediately stepped in.

She swung her leg and kicked the man directly between his legs.

The guard released Chad and dropped towards the ground, both hands moving towards his crown jewels as pain spread through his body.

Before he could recover, Bobo raised her knee and drove it into his face.

The impact knocked him unconscious, and his body collapsed onto the floor.

"We did it," Bobo said, smiling as she stared at the fallen guard. "We actually did it."

Adrenaline was rushing through her body, creating a strange high from everything that had happened.

"I think it’s been a while since we’ve done something together."

"That was quite good family teamwork," Karen added.

"Right," Chad replied. "So, should we meet up every weekend and beat people up? What do you two say?"

Their success didn’t last long.

More guards were already making their way towards them. Chad, Karen and Bobo had worked together to defeat one man, but they had also been lucky. The next group wouldn’t approach them as carelessly.

Before the guards could reach the three family members, two fists shot out from two different directions.

Darius and Jett struck at the same time, each of them punching a separate guard in the face. The force sent both men flying backwards.

"We don’t have much time," Darius warned.

One of the men slid across the ground until his body slammed into the barrier surrounding the platform.

The impact finally drew Donto’s attention away from the fight below.

He turned around and stared at the scene behind him.

The hostages were free, one guard was unconscious on the floor, and two more had just been sent flying by Jett and Darius.

"What is this?" Donto demanded. "What is going on?"
