Her son’s scared cries made her feel both heartache and irritation. Heartache for the little guy crying his lungs out, breathless, but also irritated at this child’s lack of tact, his ignorance of the surrounding situation! Didn’t he see what time it was, with the Insect Race rampaging everywhere, and this foolish son crying so loudly as if inviting the Insect Race to kill them both? This child was just as annoying as his father!
