Chapter 123 -99: Qin Wanyue Activates Husband-Protecting Mode
“Sister Qin, from now on, you are my own biological sister!”
Feeling a trace of warmth from Qin Wanyue’s fingertips, Zeng Anmin’s heart skipped a beat. However, he immediately suppressed the feeling and gave her a thumbs-up. He reminded himself that he absolutely could not fall for the three greatest illusions in life.
“HEHE.” Having spent so much time with Zeng Anmin, Qin Wanyue’s personality had become a bit more lively.
Standing to the side, the Crown Prince watched them with a slightly resentful gaze. However, looking at Qin Wanyue’s gentle and graceful demeanor, he recalled the smile of his own unattainable first love. Only then did he feel much more balanced in his heart.
The next day.
During class at the Imperial College.
As Zeng Anmin listened to the instructor’s lecture, he felt a bit restless. Two days had already passed since the death of Prince Qi. Yet, there was still no news of the estate confiscation from Bai Ziqing’s end. Time slipped by in a blur.
Suddenly, a voice rang out from outside the door. “Greetings, everyone. I am Liu Xian, a new student joining this hall. I am an Advanced Scholar in the Seventh Grade of the Confucian Dao.”
The young man looked to be around seventeen years old, his face radiating unparalleled confidence. The moment he stepped into the hall, he stood at the doorway and bowed to the assembled students.
Hearing his introduction, the eyes of several Advanced Scholars lit up.
“Liu Xian? Young Master Liu?”
“The top scholar of the Capital City’s metropolitan exam the year before last?”
“The same Liu Xian, Liu Fengnian, who topped the charts at just sixteen?”
“Liu Haitang, who overshadowed all the scholars in the capital with a single ‘Ode to the Begonia’?”
Whispered discussions rippled through the room.
Intrigued by the chatter, Zeng Anmin looked up curiously at Liu Xian. The guy was rather average-looking, though his attire was quite flashy. His face was fair enough, but he had an exceptionally eye-catching Begonia tucked into his hair.
“HEHE, if I am not mistaken, the Liu Haitang you all speak of is indeed me.” Hearing the whispers below, Liu Xian’s smile grew even more radiant. He spoke cheerfully, “Now that I have enrolled, we are all classmates. I have taken the liberty of bringing some small gifts for everyone. Please do not disdain them.”
With that, he waved his hand. Several panting servants entered through the doorway, carrying a large chest. When they opened it, an assortment of small gifts was revealed inside. Naturally, every item was related to the Four Treasures of the Study.
“Young masters, this is a token of our young lord’s goodwill. Please accept them, HEHE.” The servants respectfully took the trinkets from the chest and distributed them to the students one by one.
“Then we thank you, Young Master Liu.”
“HEHE, Young Master Liu is exactly as the rumors say—courteous and utterly modest.”
“In that case, we would rather obey respectfully than decline.”
Some hereditary students and those from the Imperial Prison reacted relatively normally upon seeing the gifts. However, the less affluent Advanced Scholars accepted them with beaming smiles. After all, as a genius of the Confucian Dao, a master of poetry, and the top scholar of the metropolitan examination, Liu Xian’s literary reputation was renowned throughout the Capital City, or at the very least, universally known within the circles of Advanced Scholars.
Zeng Anmin also received a gift from Liu Xian—a decent quality wolf-hair brush. Though it paled in comparison to the brushes his father used at home, it was barely passable.
The Little Fatty Crown Prince didn’t even glance at his gift, casually setting it aside. He was entirely focused on the copy of *War History* in his hands. His reasoning was simple: Brother Quan Fu liked listening to him talk about war history, so he should put more effort into this subject. If he could eventually recite a thousand years of military history off the top of his head, Brother Quan Fu would surely be incredibly moved.
The Little Fatty Crown Prince was already completely lost in his own self-motivating delusions.
“I wonder where would be best for me to sit?” Still standing at the front, Liu Xian bowed cheerfully and asked the crowd.
“Hmm… there’s an empty seat over there,” someone said, pointing toward the Little Fatty Crown Prince. Still engrossed in his reading, the Little Fatty Crown Prince didn’t hear a word of this exchange.
“Oh?” Liu Xian’s gaze followed the direction toward the Little Fatty Crown Prince. However, his eyes were immediately captivated by Qin Wanyue, who was sitting just to the front left of the prince.
Bathed in the sunlight, Qin Wanyue was reading quietly. She naturally possessed a serene aura. The sunlight danced on her eyelashes, highlighting the vibrant and fragrant beauty of a young maiden. A stray lock of hair slipped down, obscuring her eyes from the pages. Frowning slightly, she used her fair hand to gently tuck the loose strands behind her ear.
THUMP.
Liu Xian felt as if his heart had skipped a beat. He took a deep breath and walked straight toward the Little Fatty Crown Prince. Deliberately keeping his eyes off Qin Wanyue beside him, he cupped his hands in a highly polite greeting to the prince. “Apologies for the intrusion, brother.”
Hearing the voice beside him, the Crown Prince frowned and looked up. A flash of impatience crossed his clear eyes. With an unmistakable air of royal nobility in his every gesture, he asked expressionlessly, “What is it?”
“HEHE.” Feeling the Little Fatty Crown Prince’s gaze, Liu Xian remained completely unfazed. Glancing at Qin Wanyue from the corner of his eye, he cleared his throat and spoke in what he believed to be an exceedingly courteous tone. “I am Liu Xian. May I dare ask for your esteemed name, brother?”
Even as he finished speaking, his peripheral vision remained fixed on Qin Wanyue. Yet, she sat motionless, as if she hadn’t heard a thing. Clearly, having just arrived in the Capital City, Qin Wanyue had absolutely no idea who Liu Haitang was.
“Wang Zhi.” The Crown Prince merely gave him a flat look before standing up to clear the aisle for him. “Go in.” He never used his real name while attending the Imperial College.
“My thanks.” Liu Xian took a deep breath.
Stepping into the row, he took his seat and glanced up at Qin Wanyue’s back. His face flushed slightly. He quickly lowered his head, his fists clenched tight. A faint scent of lotus emanated from Qin Wanyue, bewitching the young man’s mind.
Since it was currently a break between classes, the students didn’t dwell on this minor interlude. They quickly adjusted their focus and returned to their studies.
