Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 384: How Should I Investigate This?
Grace stood there staring at his figure and roared unwillingly, "What can you do? In the end, you still need me to fill this hole."
However, Brant didn’t respond to her dissatisfaction.
Grace gritted her teeth angrily and thought, "Yvonne, just wait and see. Although you have my brother as your backer, don’t even think about defeating me!"
Early the next morning, Yvonne received a call from Brant.
She looked at the phone number on the screen, glanced at James, who was still sleeping soundly, and quietly walked out of the bedroom to answer the phone.
As soon as the phone was connected, Brant said, "Yvonne, don’t worry. I have made it clear to your aunt about the cooperation between the two Groups. She won’t do it again."
Hearing this, Yvonne felt much more at ease.
In fact, she was hardly surprised by the outcome at all.
<After all, Grace likes my father. Thus, as long as he gives the order, she would listen. I have witnessed this similar thing countless times in my life. However, I didn’t think too much about her thoughts before and thought they were just getting along well with each other as brother and sister.>
However, at that moment, she thought of another thing.
<Yesterday, when I mentioned Grace using mother as a threat, his reaction seemed rather strong. It seems that he is unwilling to mention it. His reaction made me more curious about that matter.
From the bottom of her heart, she trusted her mother. After all, her mother was so perfect in her memory. Yvonne didn’t believe that her mother would do anything wrong to her father.
Therefore, she was even more curious about the truth.
Then she tentatively asked, "What if Aunt uses my mom as a threat again? Dad, are you really not going to tell me the truth?"
Brant was silent for a while before saying, "Yvonne, I have told you that this matter is not true. Don’t ask about it anymore. As for your aunt, you don’t have to worry about her. I will make it clear to her."
He did not say anything anymore.
After hanging up the phone, Yvonne’s heart was still full of doubts.
She still felt that this matter was not like what her father had said.
<After all, mother’s diary and those photos could not be faked. Although Grace’s words might not be credible, this matter must have happened. As for the truth, there might be another story. But how could I find it out? Not many people know about this
matter. Both Grace and dad know about it, but their opinions are completely different and unreliable. It seems that I still need to find more people who know about it. However, who would know about such a secret?>
Just as she was thinking about it, a pair of strong arms wrapped around her from behind.
She knew it was James without looking back. She turned her head slightly. "You’re awake?"
James put his head on her shoulder, rubbed it a few times, and responded with a "Yeah". In fact, he had woken up the moment her phone rang. He saw her go out to answer the phone, and then saw her come back with a heavy heart.
Although he did not know who called her, it was not difficult to guess that it should be from the Whites.
According to his understanding of her during this period of time, nothing could make her look so worried except for what had happened in the Whites.
...
He asked softly, "Who just called?"
She did not tell him the truth. After all, this involved her mother’s reputation, so she could not say it rashly before investigating it clearly.
She paused for a moment before saying, "A friend. Oh, right, it’s getting late. We have to get up and go to work."
She changed the subject.
James did not pursue the matter. Instead, he rubbed his head against her shoulder before letting go of her. He stretched out his hand and said, "Pull me up."
His eyes were still drowsy, as if he was acting like a spoiled child.
Yvonne felt dizzy. <Could I have seen wrongly?
A toughttough man like him actually knows how to be coquettish.>
She couldn’t help chuckling, but quickly stifled it. Then she tried to pull him up from the bed.
But she didn’t expect that his whole body would directly press down on her. She lost her balance and took a step back to stand still.
"Stand still. You’re too heavy."
She tried to push him away, but he was as still as a mountain.
"Don’t move. Let me hold you for a while."
He pulled her into his arms. Caught off guard, she bumped into his bare chest.
Through the loose nightgown, his body temperature instantly invaded her senses.
Her heartbeat sped up and her body stiffened. For a moment, she was held stiffly by him.
As time went by, her body gradually relaxed. She patted his back gently and could not help but complained, "Why are you acting like a child?"
"Haven’t you heard that men in the morning are fierce beasts?" He corrected her and slowly let go of her.
"Really? I think you look like a cat."
She added in her heart, "A coquettish cat."
Then she chuckled and urged him to wash up in the bathroom.
After driving him into the bathroom, she went to the cloakroom to change her clothes.
After both of them were ready, they went downstairs, ate breakfast in a hurry, and
left home together.
On the way, Yvonne had been hesitating to tell him about the changes in the cooperation between the two companies.
Unexpectedly, before she told her, James received a phone call from his secretary who told him about this matter.
His secretary said he had received an email to cancel the cooperation this morning.
After listening to his report, James was somewhat surprised.
<Grace was so eager for that sum of money before. How could she give it up so easily? There must be something I don’t know.>
Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but think of Yvonne’s phone call in the morning. He thought, "Could it be related to this matter?"
He paused for a moment and said, "The cooperation between the White Group and the Taylor Group has been canceled."
Yvonne paused for a moment and nodded.
Seeing her calm reaction, James immediately understood. <It seems that she has already known it.
As for why she knew it before me, I think that she must have participated in that matter.>
Thinking of this, he thought of the abnormalities she had shown after Grace came to the company yesterday. Not only did she disappear for a period of time at noon that day, but she also looked troubled for the whole day.
Now he understood that it might because of that matter.
However, he was confused about what she had done to make Grace give up.
Then he could not help but look at her in confusion.
Sensing his gaze on her, Yvonne touched her cheek awkwardly and asked, "What...
are you looking at?"
...
Only then did James look away.
"Nothing."
Since she didn’t take the initiative to tell him, why did he have to ask?
It’s to show her respect.
It didn’t take long for the car to arrive at the Taylor Group.
As soon as James got out of the car, Yvonne’s phone rang again. She glanced at the phone, paused for a moment, and looked at James.
"You go first. I’ll take a call."
He did not ask any questions. He nodded his head and walked into the office first.
After he left, she picked up the call.
"What’s the matter?"
She said coldly.
"Yvonne, you’re really capable. How dare you report this to my brother. Aren’t you afraid I’ll exposed your mother’s scandal?"
Grace’s angry voice came from the other end of the line.
Yvonne sneered and said, "Do you dare to? If you do, you wouldn’t have waited until now."
"You ... " Grace gritted her teeth. "Don’t be arrogant. There’s nothing in this world that I, Grace White, wouldn’t dare do. Let’s see when you push me too hard."
"So you mean to expose it?"
"That depends on your sincerity."
"What sincerity do you want?"
"The cooperation between the White Enterprise and the Taylor Group, of course."
"But the deal has been called off by the White Enterprise."
"Yes, the White Enterprise has called it off, but there is no rule that says that there can’t be a new partnership. As long as you work with me to issue a statement, I promise that I can save the White Enterprise without Taylor Group’s financial support."
"Oh? Can it be so simple?"
"It depends on whether you are willing or not."
Yvonne thought that it was quite interesting. She wanted to know what was on
Grace’s mind.
"Tell me about it," she said.
"As long as you promise me that you will come to the White Enterprise to take over the position of vice president, and then work with me to hold a press conference."
When Yvonne heard this, she smiled. "I’m afraid that before that, I still have to make a statement to prove that I’m Mrs. Taylor."
"That’s right."
Yvonne found it amusing. Grace wanted to use her status as Mrs. Taylor to announce the marital alliance between the Taylors and the Whites, so that she can leverage on the Taylor’s reputation and connections to garner investments. It was a brilliant idea on her part.
Unfortunately, she wasn’t going to do as Grace desired. If it wasn’t to avoid such publicity, she would not have deliberately cancelled her wedding plans midway and instead just registered her marriage in a low-key ceremony.
After all, without a direct marriage alliance, the Whites could not openly make use of the Taylors.
"Grace, do you think I will still agree to your proposal after what had happened?"
What kind of a joke was this? She had gone through so much trouble to convince her father to stop the two parties from working together, so how could she commit the same error?
Grace ,Grace, who was on the other end of the line, did not seem surprised by this at all. She said, "Of course you can choose to refuse, but the consequences you need to bear will be detrimental for the rest of your life."
"Grace, I’m not afraid of you. We don’t know what happened back then. Aren’t you afraid of angering my father?"
"You don’t have to worry about your father. I have my own ways. I don’t mind telling you that in addition to your mother’s scandal, I have other more scandalous material on hand. If you don’t believe me, do as you like. You don’t have to give me an answer immediately. I can wait until you figure it out."
With that, she hung up the phone without waiting for a response.
Hearing the beep tone from the other end of the line, Yvonne clenched her phone tightly.
