Chapter 2239: Chapter 43: Brother Ziyi, We Must Always Be Together

“Really?”

Mo Ziye seemed to smile a little, a hint of warmth appearing in his eyes as black as Mo Yu.

Standing originally in front of the magnolia tree, he took a step forward, his warm gaze falling on her, and said in a casual tone, “Since they’re returning to the Imperial City tomorrow, you should be the one inviting him and Tang Jinchen for a meal. Why let him treat you instead?”

Qin Qingqing looked at the handsome face of Mo Ziye, feeling as though the gloomy aura around him earlier was just an illusion.

The man now had clear and elegant features, appearing lazy and relaxed, showing no sign of the previous displeasure.

She blinked and said lightly, “Maybe he feels guilty about freeloading these days.”

This time Mo Ziye genuinely laughed.

The laughter was low and pleasant.

Before her, he reached out and opened the villa door. The two walked into the villa together and headed towards the living room side by side. “These days, he’s indeed been freeloading at home, but given the relationship between the Ye Family and Grandpa and Grandpa, if he and Tang Jinchen wouldn’t stay at home but at a hotel in G City, that would be inappropriate.”

Qin Qingqing frowned slightly.

Mo Ziye’s words sounded odd to her.

Ye Zhan stayed at the Mo family’s place but ate at the Qin family’s.

This was something Mo Ziye should know, even if he was away on a business trip.

Yet he directly said Ye Zhan has been freeloading at home these days.

It sounded as if the Mo family and the Qin family were one and the same, too indistinguishable.

If it were in the past, they did seem like a family; now, that’s no longer the case.

“When did you get back?”

Qin Qingqing changed the subject and asked.

Mo Ziye answered gently, “Got home an hour ago.”

“In the morning, Brother Little Hui mentioned that there were some troubles over there. I thought you wouldn’t be back for another couple of days.”

“The day after tomorrow is Auntie’s birthday. Ziyang and Qinghuan will return. For the past few years, except for you and Zinan, no one has missed the elders’ birthdays.”

In other words, even if he’s away, he’ll make sure to come back.

This was the first time Mo Ziye mentioned Gu Zinan in front of Qin Qingqing since she returned to the country.

His tone was calm, without any unusual emotions. After four years, the little discontent from back then was long forgotten.

“Brother Ziyi, do you have anything else? If not, I won’t invite you in. You’ve just returned from a business trip and must be tired, so please go rest.”

As they were just a few steps from the living room, Qin Qingqing stopped.

Her slender figure stood on the pebble path, gazing at Mo Ziye under the faint moonlight.

Seeing her seem to drive him away, Mo Ziye’s expression cooled slightly.

She didn’t stop him when he entered the villa with her.

But now, she didn’t want to let him into the living room.

He lightly pursed his thin lips, hands in pockets, gazing at her for a moment before saying softly, “Nothing much. Earlier, Aunt said you weren’t home, and I happened to meet Tang Jinchen returning, who said you were with Ye Zhan, so I waited outside for you.”

“Then…”

“Rest early.”

Mo Ziye didn’t wait for Qin Qingqing to tell him to leave and turned towards the villa entrance.

Qin Qingqing turned to watch Mo Ziye walk out of the villa before she went into the living room.

On the sofa, Tang Jinchen was watching TV while snacking.

On the coffee table in front of him was a bag of snacks. He held a packet and waved it at Qin Qingqing upon seeing her return.

“Qingqing, why are you alone? Where’s Ah Zhan?”

“Cousin, you bought so many snacks?”

Qin Qingqing walked to the sofa, her gaze sweeping over the bag on the coffee table, laughingly asking.

“These weren’t bought by me.”

Tang Jinchen poured some snacks into her hand and tossed some into his mouth before answering her with a smile.

Qin Qingqing looked at him in surprise, “Not bought by you?”

“Mo Ziye bought them for you. Seeing so much, I helped you eat some. Qingqing, you’re not angry, are you?”

Seeing Qin Qingqing’s expression change, Tang Jinchen asked with a smile.

Qin Qingqing shifted her gaze from him to the bag of snacks.

She suddenly recalled seeing snacks in his car the day he took her to S City.

Back then, he said they were Shi Xi’s.

Those snacks are the same as these in the bag.

A few indescribable emotions suddenly arose in her heart. Qin Qingqing couldn’t quite describe the feeling, but the calm lake of her heart was easily stirred by that person.

“Qingqing, if you don’t want Mo Ziye’s things, I’ll return them to him later. Don’t be upset.”

Tang Jinchen thought Qin Qingqing was angry.

He hurriedly smiled to comfort her.

Qin Qingqing suppressed her emotions, her delicate face breaking into a faint smile, and sat next to Tang Jinchen, pouring all the snacks out onto the coffee table, “I won’t eat them for nothing; tomorrow when you and Ye Zhan leave, take some to snack on the road.”

“If Mo Ziye finds out you took away the snacks he bought for you, will he be mad?”

Tang Jinchen’s words caused Qin Qingqing to snort coldly, “Why would he be mad? They’re mine now, and I can give them to whomever I please.”

Saying that, she opened a packet of sour plums, tossed one into her mouth, and took out her phone to send a message.

Meanwhile, Mo Ziye hadn’t reached home yet.

On the quiet asphalt road, he walked slowly.

While enjoying the coolness of the autumn night, he experienced the solitude of being alone.

The enveloping moonlight did not soften his handsome and cold facial features but instead added a layer of solitude around him.

A specially set message alert broke the solitary silence, and the coldness in Mo Ziye’s eyes cracked slightly.

He took out his phone to read the message: Brother Ziyi, thank you for the snacks.

It was a message from Qin Qingqing.

A simple thank you that seemed no different from before, yet felt very different.

The coolness in Mo Ziye’s eyes diminished, and his facial features softened slightly.

As if the soft, sweet voice of a girl echoed again, “Brother Ziyi, you’re so nice.”

“Brother Ziyi, can I have chocolate today?”

“Brother Ziyi, can we go out to play this weekend?”

“Brother Ziyi…”

The grip on his phone tightened slightly, deep and dark eyes seeming to surge with tides, churning, but soon all were forced back, restoring to deep darkness and calm.

Yet a voice, even with all his might, could not be driven away. Over the past four years, it had freely echoed in his ears, “Brother Ziyi, we’ll be together forever.”

Taking a deep breath, Mo Ziye’s long fingers gently tapped to exit the message. Just as he was about to slip the phone into his pocket, a phone call came through.

Seeing the name flickering on the screen, his eyes quickly cooled, and pressing the answer button, his voice chilled like the late autumn night, “Hello!”
