Chapter 2054: Chapter 2053: I Call the Shots

Fan Lu was shocked and looked at Jing Xiaocha in disbelief, “Xiaocha, is what you said true? The female lead role An Qing has already been given to Zheng Shirui?”

“Aren’t you and Zheng Shirui very close? Didn’t she tell you?”

Jing Xiaocha’s expression quieted, and she looked at Fan Lu calmly.

Fan Lu showed a moment of embarrassment, trying to make small talk, as she was caught badmouthing Jing Xiaocha in front of Zheng Shirui and Jin Fengjiao by Wen Jin.

Even her gaze toward Jing Xiaocha became guilty.

“Xiaocha, listen to you, when was I ever very close to Zheng Shirui? We just acted in a couple of scenes together and exchanged a few words. Wasn’t An Qing’s role supposed to be chosen by online voting?”

“I don’t know the reason either. If you want to know, you should ask Zheng Shirui. I really don’t have time now; I need to pick up Little Hui.”

Having said that, Jing Xiaocha turned and left.

Fan Lu’s expression changed, and she urgently called out behind Jing Xiaocha, “Xiaocha, Zheng Shirui doesn’t have the capability to play the female lead. You could ask President Wen for help…”

Jing Xiaocha, leaving with her laptop, unconsciously tightened her lips when she heard Fan Lu’s words behind her.

This was her own business; she couldn’t possibly go tell Wen Jin.

Just as she was thinking, her phone rang.

Jing Xiaocha took out her phone, saw the caller ID, a trace of doubt flashed in her eyes, and she gently pressed the answer key, “Hello.”

“Jing Xiaocha, it’s Jin Yunchang. Come to my office now.”

Jing Xiaocha’s delicate brows furrowed lightly, she replied indifferently, “President Jin, sorry, I’m busy at the moment and can’t get away.”

“It’s about the casting for the male and female leads in your work. If you don’t come now, I’ll make the decision myself.”

Jin Yunchang’s tone was indifferent, yet overbearing.

Jing Xiaocha cursed inwardly, reluctantly saying, “Fine, I’ll come over now.”

Looking at the time on her phone screen, if she delayed any longer, she wouldn’t make it in time to pick up Little Hui. So Jing Xiaocha dialed Wen Ran’s number, asking her to pick up Little Hui first.

Today, Wen Ran happened to personally pick up the child, so without asking anything, she readily agreed to Jing Xiaocha’s request.

She even said to let Little Hui have dinner at their home, and they would directly send him to school in the afternoon, assuring Jing Xiaocha not to worry.

After hanging up the phone, Jing Xiaocha headed to Jin Yunchang’s office.

The office had only Jin Yunchang sitting in the high-backed swivel chair behind the desk. Since Jin Zheyu said he would call on him, it seemed he must have left by now.

“Have a seat.”

Seeing her come in, Jin Yunchang casually pointed to the sofa and came out from behind the desk to sit in front of the sofa.

“Didn’t you say we were discussing the casting? How come it’s just me here?”

Jing Xiaocha pretended to be unaware and looked at Jin Yunchang, her clear eyes filled with a sense of bewilderment.

Jin Yunchang revealed a sly smile, “Zheyu has already spoken to me. You probably know that the female lead role in the drama has been promised to Zheng Shirui, and calling you here is about this matter.”

Jing Xiaocha forced a smile, inquiring back, “I remember, before we signed the contract, Young Master Jin said I would have the right to be involved in all matters regarding the work, including casting actors. Moreover, we are currently holding an online poll. President Jin, isn’t it a bit too early to make a decision?”

Jin Yunchang’s expression slightly darkened, his gaze toward Jing Xiaocha instantly sharpened.

He hadn’t realized that Jing Xiaocha, who appeared like an easily manipulated soft persimmon, was actually as resilient as a stubborn rock.

Though she didn’t directly oppose, her words were entirely reasonable.

Jing Xiaocha sat upright, her delicate brow and eyes calm and serene, even under his sharp gaze, her eyes were as peaceful as still water.

“What’s not good about it? I have the final say on who gets to be the actor.”

Jin Yunchang assumed a dismissive demeanor, as if saying, “I’m unreasonable, what can you do about it?”

Jing Xiaocha laughed instead of getting angry, “It’s clearly outlined in our contract how to decide on casting actors. If President Jin insists on this, it would count as a breach of contract.”

“Breach of contract, are you intending to terminate the contract right now and not produce the drama?”

Jin Yunchang looked coldly at Jing Xiaocha. Signing a contract with Jing Xiaocha to produce this work according to her ideas and closely adhering to the original content hadn’t even been to his satisfaction.

What’s more, for a newcomer like Jing Xiaocha, this opportunity was already quite rare.

He didn’t believe she would be foolish enough to terminate the contract and not proceed.

Jing Xiaocha instinctively raised her chin, a stubborn smile forming at the corner of her lips, “If President Jin insists on using Zheng Shirui, it would be better to terminate the contract than let my work be ruined. Besides, President Jin breached the contract first. Even if the previous plagiarism incident is blown up, my conscience is clear.”

“Jing Xiaocha, how dare you threaten me?”

Jin Yunchang’s expression instantly turned chilly.

His gaze toward Jing Xiaocha was filled with ruthlessness and fury; being in a high position for too long, it had been a while since anyone dared defy him.

Jing Xiaocha wasn’t intimidated by his anger, took her laptop, and stood up.

She coolly said, “President Jin, I’m not threatening you, I’m just reasoning.”

Jin Yunchang was so angered he almost spat blood, and she said she wasn’t threatening him but merely reasoning.

A little girl dared to call him unreasonable.

“These matters aren’t irredeemable. I just have conditions to see if you can agree.”

Jin Yunchang gave a cold snort.

Jing Xiaocha lowered her eyes, “What conditions?”

Sustained damage never brings about the best outcome; from the initial plagiarism incident to the subsequent negotiations, and finally to the current issue, each matter was never singular.

One thing leads to another, and sometimes compromise became essential.

Though Jing Xiaocha was unwilling to be bent to circumstances, she also didn’t want her painstaking work to be for nothing.

Jin Yunchang gave her a slight glance, indicating for her to sit down first.

Jing Xiaocha quietly steadied her mind before sitting down again.

She didn’t put her laptop back on the table, instead holding it on her lap, ready to leave if the talk went awry.

Jin Yunchang stated his conditions, “As long as you can ensure that there’s no ties with Zheyu in the future, and don’t let him keep thinking about you, obediently letting him get engaged to Zheng Shirui.”

At this point, Jin Yunchang paused.

The implication was clear, and he believed that someone as smart as Jing Xiaocha would understand what to do, it was just a question of whether she would agree.

Whether to choose her career dream, or to continue entangling with his son.

A flash of anger passed through Jing Xiaocha’s eyes, her expression grew colder.

Facing Jin Yunchang’s sharp and stringent gaze steadily, “President Jin, Young Master Jin and I have no unclear ties, perhaps you misunderstood.”

“Do you think I’m Zheng Shirui, that easily fooled?”

Jin Yunchang’s gaze grew cold instantly, “Zheyu burned Zheng Shirui’s face with a cigarette for you; just this alone implicates you wholly.”
