Chapter 2052: 2051: Leading Lady Candidate

Chapter 2052: Chapter 2051: Leading Lady Candidate

Jing Xiaocha went on a blind date with Shi Tian and promptly forgot about him.

She had to write a script and take care of Zhang Minghui, making her days busy yet fulfilling.

One day, while discussing plot details at Star Summer Film and Television, an unfamiliar number called.

“Hello.”

With one hand on the touchscreen flipping through screens, she answered the phone with the other.

“Xiaocha, it’s Shi Tian. Are you free for lunch today? Let’s grab a meal together.”

Shi Tian’s cheerful voice came through, clear to Jing Xiaocha and even to Jin Zheyu sitting beside her.

He recognized who it was.

Jin Zheyu’s expression immediately darkened, his sharp gaze fixed on Jing Xiaocha’s phone, even his ears perked up.

“I can’t make it at noon today; I promised Little Hui I’d have lunch with him this morning.”

Upon hearing her refusal, Jin Zheyu’s displeasure eased slightly, a hint of sarcasm flashing in his eyes.

This sarcasm was, of course, directed at Shi Tian on the other end.

“Who is Little Hui? Is he your brother, Xiaocha?”

Shi Tian feigned ignorance. He had actually investigated Jing Xiaocha and knew she lived with her nephew.

Further, Shi Tian probably knew more about Jing Xiaocha than even Ou Yihan.

Jing Xiaocha was slightly taken aback, “Little Hui is my nephew. I’m busy now, so I can’t talk much.”

The people around her were watching, and Jing Xiaocha was indeed not in a position to discuss personal matters over the phone. Hearing her say that she was occupied, Shi Tian tactfully said, “Then carry on with your work. I’ll book the restaurant and call you later.”

In other words, he was determined to have lunch with her.

Regardless of whether she wanted to or not.

Shi Tian’s behavior was unquestionably domineering.

Jing Xiaocha frowned and was about to refuse, but Shi Tian hung up the call.

She put down her phone and continued discussing the script’s plot, which took until eleven o’clock.

During this period, Shi Tian didn’t call her again.

Once the discussion was over, everyone else left, but Jin Zheyu remained, seemingly waiting for her explanation.

Jing Xiaocha closed her notebook, meeting Jin Zheyu’s intense gaze. A slight surprise flickered in her eyes, “Classmate Jin, is there anything else?”

“Time is tight; are you okay with that?”

Jin Zheyu suppressed his emotions and asked with concern.

For various reasons, the drama’s start date had been moved up, shortening Jing Xiaocha’s time to revise the script.

They had just discussed the entire plot of the drama. Although Jing Xiaocha was the scriptwriter, and it was initially agreed that she’d have the final say,

some changes still needed to be made when it came to filming the drama.

In the original novel, the main male and female characters only kissed once, a brief peck, which everyone unanimously opposed.

The ending remained tragic, which hadn’t changed.

But after discussions, it was decided to modify the plot by adding some flirtatious scenes.

“No problem, I can manage.”

Jing Xiaocha replied with a smile.

She wasn’t completely close-minded to suggestions. She was willing to cooperate on the points they discussed.

“For the additional scenes, you have the final say on the specifics. Once you finish writing, send me a copy.”

“Sure.”

“Does Little Hui listen to you when he stays with you?”

Having finished discussing work matters, Jin Zheyu still didn’t want Jing Xiaocha to leave, so he asked about her relationship with Zhang Minghui.

Mentioning Zhang Minghui brought more warmth to Jing Xiaocha’s eyes, “Little Hui is quite obedient now. I don’t worry much; he often helps me instead.”

“Really?”

Jin Zheyu didn’t know much about Zhang Minghui, having only met him once before.

But he knew Zhang Minghui hadn’t treated Jing Xiaocha well.

Jing Xiaocha nodded, “Living with a child actually inspires me. I find living with Little Hui better than living alone.”

“How did Shi Tian get in touch with you?”

With the topic shifting here, Jin Zheyu’s expression changed again, his displeasure evident.

Jing Xiaocha sighed inwardly.

She figured that Jin Zheyu had heard Shi Tian’s voice earlier and had gone through that whole roundabout way just to ask about him.

“Since that day, he hadn’t contacted me until today. I don’t even know why he’s reaching out now.”

Jing Xiaocha felt innocent.

If Shi Tian hadn’t called today, she would’ve forgotten about him entirely.

Jin Zheyu scoffed, “He must have ill intentions. Xiaocha, don’t pay him any attention. Men like him who run bars are no good.”

“I haven’t paid him any heed.”

Jing Xiaocha chuckled; Jin Zheyu’s behavior reminded her of Little Hui.

Although Jin Zheyu was a year older than her, to independent Jing Xiaocha, he didn’t quite qualify as a man, more like a big boy.

He lacked the maturity and restrained charm of Wen Jin.

Jing Xiaocha’s personality and life experiences had made it impossible for her to fancy immature, childish men.

She preferred men like Wen Jin, who were steady, introspective, and genteel.

“Zheyu, why didn’t you answer my call?”

Before Jin Zheyu could say anything else, a slightly sharp voice, filled with dissatisfaction and frustration, sounded from behind.

As the sound reached them, the distinct click of high heels hitting the floor echoed into their ears.

Following the sound, they saw Zheng Shirui walking toward them, dressed in a sexy strapless dress, carrying a limited edition bag, and wearing ten-inch heels.

A look of distaste flashed in Jin Zheyu’s eyes. He stood up and regarded Zheng Shihuang with cold indifference, “What are you doing here?”

Zheng Shirui’s eyes bitterly swept over Jing Xiaocha.

Facing Jin Zheyu, she proudly raised her chin, sticking out her impressive chest, “I’m here for you. Auntie told me to invite you home for lunch.”

After saying this, she cast another disdainful glance at Jing Xiaocha.

In terms of family background, appearance, and charisma, Jing Xiaocha couldn’t compare to her at all.

To describe the difference between them with a phrase,

it would be: as different as heaven and earth.

Of course, she was the lofty cloud, while Jing Xiaocha was the humble earth beneath…

“I don’t have time to go home for lunch today. If you want to eat at my place, go by yourself.”

“How could that be, Auntie said I should keep an eye on you, so you don’t get seduced by some vixen, and besides, I have important news to share with you.”

“What news?”

“I’ve convinced uncle to let me star as the leading actress, An Qing, in the upcoming drama ‘Love You All My Life.’ So, I’m here to celebrate with you.”

“That’s impossible.”

Jing Xiaocha shot up from her chair, her clear eyes filled with opposition.
