Chapter 1585: 1584 Acting
“It’s all Ah Kai’s fault, he insisted on taking me on a honeymoon.”
Bai Yiyi immediately frowned and complained.
With a ‘ding’ sound, the elevator doors slowly opened.
An Lin stepped out of the elevator and looked at Bai Yiyi with a light laugh, “Yiyi, I still don’t understand why Ah Kai ran away with you. Why wouldn’t he have a wedding with you? Could it be?”
“Could it be what?”
Bai Yiyi blinked, her smile bright as she looked at An Lin.
“Could it be that Ah Kai had some fling and a woman came looking for him, so he ran away with you.”
The corner of Bai Yiyi’s mouth twitched, “An Lin, with such a rich imagination, it’s a waste you aren’t a screenwriter.”
“You think so too, huh? Let me tell you a secret, my original dream was to be a writer, writing detective suspense novels mixed with paranormal horror stories…”
“Ah, stop talking, why do I feel a chill crawling up my spine.”
Bai Yiyi shivered slightly, unsure if she was truly scared or just pretending to be.
An Lin just laughed, “Yiyi, you don’t even fear when Ah Kai talks about those surgery details, yet you’re afraid of ghosts?”
“Of course, I’m scared of ghosts.”
“I heard the morgue is the most supernatural place. How about we take a look?”
“An Lin, if you keep talking, I won’t speak to you anymore.” Bai Yiyi instinctively glanced toward the end of the hallway, currently only she and An Lin were around.
Besides their voices, it was exceptionally quiet.
“All right, all right, I’m just teasing you; don’t be scared.”
As they chatted, the two of them arrived at the door to Gu Kai’s office. Bai Yiyi had a key, opened the door, and invited An Lin into the office.
An Lin entered the office and walked briskly to the sofa, “Yiyi, why don’t you call Aunt Bai and have her bring Tongtong to the hospital? That way, you won’t have to wait until you get home to see Tongtong.”

In the hospital room, just as Qin Mu had guessed, his mother soon returned.
No matter how angry she was at Qin Mu’s deceit, she still cared deeply for her son.
Hearing him say he wanted to go home to explain, Mother Qin immediately had Qing Feng turn the car around back to the hospital.
At the door to the hospital room, she heard the conversation between Gu Kai and Qin Mu:
“Ah Kai, let me go home for a while; my mom’s upset, I must explain.” Qin Mu’s voice carried a hint of urgency.
Gu Kai, however, was uncompromising, his handsome face stern and firm, “No, you can’t leave the hospital right now. Wait a few more days until your injuries heal some more, then you can be discharged.”
“I’m not being discharged, just going home briefly and coming back shortly.”
Qin Mu’s expression darkened, seemingly displeased with Gu Kai’s stubbornness.
Gu Kai remained firm, “That won’t do either. I have to be responsible for your health. How about I call Aunt and explain a few things for you?”
“You won’t be able to explain it; my mom is really angry this time.”
Qin Mu frowned deeply, his chiseled features hard and brooding, suggesting it truly was a serious matter.
Gu Kai scoffed, “Isn’t this all because you falsely reported military information before, saying An Lin was pregnant? I can’t believe Aunt, who’s usually so understanding, would be angry over this.”
“You don’t know, my mom is genuinely angry.”
Qin Mu stared irritably at Gu Kai, then waved his hand, “Whether or not you agree, I must go home for a bit today. I can’t let my mom feel uneasy about this matter.”
Mother Qin pressed her lips together, standing by the door, not raising her hand to knock.
“How are you going to explain? Are you going to tell Aunt that the reason you lied to her was because you didn’t want to divorce An Lin, and you lied to keep her?”
Gu Kai’s tone was mocking, causing Qin Mu’s expression to darken slightly.
Outside the door, Mother Qin felt a shock in her heart.
She suddenly recalled that after the Spring Festival, Qin Mu returned alone to G City while An Lin stayed in A City.
That day, An Lin packed her things, saying she wanted to stay at her parents’ house for a few days. Mother Qin even asked if there was a problem between her and Qin Mu.
Did it really escalate to the point of divorce?
Qin Mu’s voice carried a touch of melancholy and guilt, “If telling her means she won’t be upset, then I have nothing to hide. Back then, I wrongfully trusted the recording made by Gao Yuwen, which broke An Lin’s heart.”
As he spoke towards the end, Qin Mu’s tone softened.
The tone lost some of its melancholy but gained a complexity of emotions.
It was as if the guilt of misunderstanding An Lin was mixed with heartache for having hurt her.
Strangely, when he first realized he had misunderstood An Lin, he only felt guilt and self-reproach, thinking he shouldn’t have doubted An Lin.
But as time went on, his feelings for An Lin gradually shifted from the camaraderie and friendship of the past, to the responsibilities of a husband, and later, developed into gradually liking her more.
This affection, like a gentle stream, deepened and intensified over time.
Every time he thought of the misunderstanding and hurt he caused An Lin, the feeling in his heart grew deeper, transforming from initial self-reproach to a subtle degree of heartache over time.
“Aren’t you afraid Aunt will scold you again if you tell her this? An Lin has been devoted to you all along, yet you didn’t trust her.”
Gu Kai tutted twice, his tone laced with a playful edge.
Qin Mu glared at him, throwing off the covers to get out of bed.
Gu Kai immediately reached out to grab his arm, preventing him from exerting force, “Ah Mu, why are you so stubborn? Didn’t you listen to a word I said?”
“Let go.”
Qin Mu’s tone was somber.
“Aren’t you going to explain? I’ll go to your house now and explain on your behalf. Anyway, I and Mo Xiuchen both know what’s going on between you and An Lin. If Aunt doesn’t believe me, I’ll have Mo Xiuchen go over.”
Gu Kai finished speaking in one breath and turned to head for the door.
He really seemed to be going to Qin Mu’s house to clear things up.
Outside the door, Mother Qin was still shocked by the news she had just overheard and had not yet processed it.
The hospital room door suddenly opened from the inside.
Standing in the doorway was Gu Kai, and upon seeing her, he was visibly surprised, his eyes widening, “Aunt Qin, I was about to go to your house to find you. Why are you here?”
On the hospital bed, Qin Mu also turned his head toward the door when he heard Gu Kai’s voice.
Mother Qin glanced at Gu Kai, her eyes then moving past him to look at Qin Mu, who was leaning against the hospital bed.
He too wore a look of surprise, as if he hadn’t expected her to return.
She lowered her eyes, paused for a moment, and then spoke calmly, “No need to find me, when Ah Mu called earlier, I was on the way and hadn’t yet gotten home.”
Gu Kai seemed not to understand Mother Qin’s words, blinking blankly before his handsome face lit up with a charming smile, warmly inviting her, “Aunt Qin, please come in. I just returned to the hospital and as soon as I entered the room, I saw that guy Ah Mu trying to go home.”
“Why is he going home?”
Mother Qin pretended not to know, elegantly walking to the bedside with her purse in hand.
Qin Mu only looked at her, his lips pressed lightly together, not speaking.
Gu Kai glanced at Qin Mu and explained on his behalf, “He said he wanted to go home to apologize to you.”
