Chapter 1516: 1515 An Lin, don’t smile like that
Because of Qin Mu, An Lin gave up the idea of staying at home.
When she left An’s Home, there were no cars outside.
“I let the other two go ahead. Let’s walk back, okay?”
As Qin Mu spoke, he reached out to hold An Lin’s hand. Feeling it stiffen slightly, his eyes changed subtly, and his thin lips gently pressed together.
An Lin didn’t know why Qin Mu came back, nor did she understand what mad whim had caused him to suddenly want to take a walk with her.
Especially at this hour, two in the morning.
Taking a walk at this time wasn’t romantic.
Perhaps it wasn’t the time that was wrong, but rather the events of the evening left An Lin in no mood for a stroll.
Yet at this moment, there seemed to be no other choice.
Luckily, the Qin Family was not far from An’s Home. She nodded without speaking.
Qin Mu let go of her hand, took off his jacket, and draped it over her shoulders before holding her hand again. An Lin’s expression changed slightly due to his considerate gesture, “I’m not cold.”
“Your hands are cold.”
Qin Mu gave a faint smile.
Holding her hand, he walked forward slowly.
An Lin opened her mouth, lowered her eyes, and looked at the jacket on her shoulders, ultimately not refusing it.
The air she breathed was filled with the scent of the man beside her, a faint tobacco smell mixed with a masculine scent.
Even though her heart was cold, she couldn’t control its response to the scent she had been captivated by for many years.
Qin Mu glanced at her, using the dim streetlights to study An Lin’s delicate features. Something crossed his mind, and he furrowed his brows, “An Lin, I heard those people tried to bully you tonight?”
An Lin’s face turned slightly pale.
Her steps halted.
She looked up into Qin Mu’s deep eyes, a bitter smile forming at her lips, “Is that why you came back to find me?”
Among the two people who saved her, one had gone inside to check.
Those observant people didn’t need her to say anything to notice that man had an intention.
Qin Mu’s gaze tightened, his voice low and tinged with self-blame, “I didn’t expect Yao Dewei to have such beastly thoughts tonight.”
“It wasn’t him, it was his underling.”
An Lin’s tone was extremely calm, as if she didn’t care about tonight’s events.
She spoke lightly, “You didn’t know what would happen, no need to blame yourself. Besides, I can protect myself.”
Isn’t she fine now?
In critical times, relying on others is nowhere near as effective as relying on oneself.
“Did Yao Dewei also call dad?” Qin Mu suddenly changed the topic, catching An Lin off guard with his leap of thoughts.
She was stunned for a couple of seconds, and when she finally caught up, an inexplicable fury rose within her, and she answered calmly, “My dad let Yao Dewei and his son go because of me. If you want to blame someone, blame me, not him.”
“An Lin!”
Qin Mu’s handsome face changed slightly, his calling of her name held suppressed emotions.
“I didn’t say I blame dad. I just felt that dad seemed a bit angry earlier. I guess Yao Dewei called him…”
“Sorry, I misunderstood you.”
An Lin apologetically withdrew her hand from his grasp and brushed her hair behind her ear.
Then she stuffed her hands into her coat pockets.
The atmosphere suddenly became somewhat awkward.
Qin Mu watched as An Lin took two steps away before catching up and reaching to hold her hand again. An Lin subtly avoided him.
“An Lin, if something is bothering you, you can tell me.”
Qin Mu’s hand hung in the air momentarily before he lowered it, feeling a bit helpless.
“No.”
An Lin didn’t turn around, her eyes absentmindedly gazing into the night, not knowing where she was looking, “Ah Mu, I’m sorry about my dad releasing Yao Dewei and his father.”
“An Lin, I’ve already said I really didn’t mean to blame dad.”
“I know, but in any case, it was because of my dad that Yao Dewei and Yao Xinmin were able to escape smoothly.”
“An Lin, let’s not talk about this anymore, and don’t bring it up in front of mom either.”
Qin Mu placed a tired hand upon his temple, his voice laced with a hint of exhaustion.
An Lin softly agreed with an ‘okay’, no longer pursuing the topic.
She understood what Qin Mu meant. The father and son of Yao Family had hired a gunman to shoot his father. Now, her dad had let them go. If his mother found out, it might make her uncomfortable.

The next morning, when An Lin woke up, she saw Qin Mu in her room, sitting by her bedside, seemingly lost in thought as he looked at her.
“Awake?”
Seeing her wake up, Qin Mu adjusted his emotions and gave her a slight smile.
An Lin’s consciousness hadn’t fully awakened from sleep, and she blinked in a daze before asking, “Why are you here?”
“I’ve booked a flight to G City. Let’s have breakfast and go together.”
“Go to G City? So soon? Has everything here been taken care of?” An Lin looked at Qin Mu in surprise, noticing a hint of weariness between his brows.
“Everything here has been arranged. Even if I stayed, I wouldn’t be of much help. With Yang here, we should go to G City to see dad first, and then come back in a few days.”
Qin Mu reached out to pull her up from the bed, “Have breakfast. I’ll go home with you to greet your parents before we leave.”
Last night, because of him, An Lin hadn’t spoken much with her parents.
It weighed on Qin Mu’s mind. Actually, if he wanted to, he could be very, very good to An Lin, just like before, so much so that she sometimes had the illusion that he had feelings for her.
It was only when certain things happened that it became clear that his kindness wasn’t driven by love, which would become inadvertently apparent.
“Go to G City with mom. I won’t go.”
An Lin’s eyes flashed with hesitation as she lowered them, subtly refusing.
The next moment, her hand was held by Qin Mu, his voice low and warm, “An Lin, I know you have a lot of grievances. Once these things are settled, and my dad’s injury is better, you can take your time to settle accounts with me, okay?”
“What accounts do I have to settle with you? I just want to stay with my parents.”
An Lin looked at Qin Mu with a forced smile; she was just tired.
Maybe because of being hurt once before, she now gets hurt easily. Or perhaps, it’s because she wants more, hoping for fulfillment of the promises he made to her.
Once disappointed, she’d be incredibly saddened.
Even someone as tough as her would feel worn out by Qin Mu’s repeated indifference.
The thought of giving up emerged once more.
Qin Mu frowned, “An Lin, don’t smile like that.” He locked his gaze on hers and, word by word, slowly said, “My dad doesn’t know about our misunderstanding. Come with me to G City to see him first. If you don’t want to come back after that, you can stay there.”
“…”
“I know you want to be with your parents. Let mom come along too. It’ll be nice for the two elderly ladies to have someone to talk to.”
Qin Mu decisively made arrangements, pulling out his phone to purchase a plane ticket for Mom An as well, having her join them in G City.
