Chapter 1219: 1218, the incident last night wasn’t caused by you, right?

Yiyi’s eyes glint with a tiny bit of surprise, then she turns her head to look at Ziyi on the other side, whose toy gun was already picked up by Tongtong. He didn’t cry but simply looked at Tongtong and Momo before going to play with building blocks with Xin Xin.

She pats Tongtong’s and Momo’s heads, turns around, and walks back to the table.

Wen Ran had just finished her call, and Bai Yiyi asked with concern, “Ranran, what did Zhi Wei say just now?”

Wen Ran sighed, her soft voice tinged with a touch of faint disappointment, “She was slapped last night and was threatened; the person warned her not to bother my brother anymore.”

Bai Yiyi widened her eyes in surprise.

“I heard you mention my name just now.”

Hearing this, Wen Ran instead chuckled, “Zhi Wei said that those people might have been instructed by you. I can’t understand how she could come up with such a bizarre idea.”

Wen Ran felt both angry and speechless upon hearing Zhi Wei say this over the phone.

“Ranran, with Zhi Wei thinking that way, why do you trust me so much?”

Seeing the smile on Wen Ran’s face, Bai Yiyi couldn’t help but smile too, “Let alone that I am too busy everyday to bother with anything else, even if I had the time, I wouldn’t waste it on such matters.”

If it wasn’t for Gu Kai asking for her help, she would not have interfered in their matters.

Wen Ran softly scolded with a look, “How could I not trust you; you would prefer to have nothing to do with my brother, there’s no way you would have someone warn Zhi Wei.”

“Maybe it’s because I helped Gu Kai act a few days ago, Zhi Wei really thought I was with Gu Kai.”

Bai Yiyi frowned slightly, speaking softly.

Wen Ran picked up a cup from the table and took a sip of water, saying in irritation, “Zhi Wei has fallen crazily for my brother, at this rate, I really fear that she…”

“Are you afraid she might become another Cheng Jia?”

Bai Yiyi smiled lightly, Zhi Wei probably wouldn’t; her upbringing was different from Cheng Jia’s, she is at least a graceful and dignified goddess-level person.

“I’m afraid she’ll end up hurting herself and others.” Not every woman who’s madly in love becomes as perverted as Cheng Jia, but there are plenty who end up harming themselves and others.

“Why not have your brother check on her?”

“I’ll call him, and while it might not matter if he sees her, it’s right to let him know about this.” Wen Ran frowned slightly, surprised that Zhi Wei had been warned by someone.

Her brother was not the type of person to flirt; in his thirty years of life, the only woman he had officially dated was Zhi Wei. Who would go as far as to warn her?

Wen Ran picked up her phone from the table and dialed Gu Kai’s number.

Bai Yiyi quietly watched her, the phone rang a few times before Gu Kai’s voice came through, “Ranran.”

“Brother, are you done with work?”

“Yes, I just finished surgery. Did you call me for a reason?” Gu Kai’s voice was clear and cheerful, indicating his good mood, having just set a new record with the recent surgery by breaking the previous time record.

“Did you see Sister Wei today?”

Wen Ran leaned back into the rattan chair, lazily asking.

“No.”

Gu Kai got up late today, almost at noon, and went to the hospital after lunch, straight into the operating room, “Did she look for you?”

“Yes, she just called me, said that last night she was warned not to bother you anymore, she was even slapped.”

Clearing up misunderstandings is better than letting them grow deeper and more resentful.

“Okay, I’ll call her in a bit to ask.”

Gu Kai pondered for a moment, then asked, “Ranran, is Bai Yiyi with you right now?”

“Yiyi is here.”

“Let her take the phone.”

Wen Ran handed her phone to Bai Yiyi, “Yiyi, my brother wants to talk to you, have a slow chat, I’ll go play with the kids.”

With a smile, Wen Ran got up and went to the lawn to join the children.

Bai Yiyi took the phone and answered with a faint “Hello.”

“Did Fang Zhiwei call you?”

Gu Kai’s voice came through the phone, and Bai Yiyi calmly replied, “No.”

“So, you didn’t do what happened last night, did you?”

Bai Yiyi suddenly became annoyed, scoffed, and said, “Rest assured, even if every woman in the world would do such a stupid thing for you, I, Bai Yiyi, would not. Also, you better explain things clearly to Fang Zhiwei, if she misunderstands me again, I’ll tell her it was all an act.”

“I was just asking, why are you so angry? I kind of hoped it was you who did it.”

Gu Kai’s last sentence carried a hint of unclear meaning, Bai Yiyi was stunned, blinked, and he had already hung up.

“Crazy.”

She cursed at the phone, rolled her eyes, and placed Wen Ran’s phone on the table.

Kangning Hospital

Gu Kai first went to the ward to inquire about the patient’s condition.

Coming out of the ward, he stood in the corridor and called Fang Zhiwei.

Just after finishing the call, Wei Jingshan’s voice came from behind, “Doctor Gu, these are…”

“I have something urgent to attend to now; just organize these and leave them in my office.”

Wei Jingshan was cut off by Gu Kai without him even looking at the things in her hands; he briskly walked past her.

“Gu…”

Wei Jingshan uttered a word and then shut her mouth, staring at the departing Gu Kai, slightly lost in thought.

Gu Kai drove to the Fang Family, arriving over forty minutes later.

The nanny opened the door for him, then told him that Miss was resting in her room upstairs. Gu Kai frowned slightly, settled on the couch, and asked the nanny to call Fang Zhiwei down.

A few minutes later, Fang Zhiwei came downstairs in her pajamas.

Her hair draped over her shoulders and her unadorned face showed a tiredness tinged with a faint sadness, a look that involuntarily evoked compassion.

Gu Kai’s handsome brows furrowed slightly, his gaze settled on her cheek, the swelling had mostly subsided, but faint traces of having been hit were still visible.

Fang Zhiwei glanced at him, then lowered her head, slowly walked to the couch, and sat in the armchair beside him.

The silent living room, the air, became heavy.

Gu Kai pursed his lips, and spoke in as calm a tone as possible: “I came to explain something to you. What happened last night had nothing to do with Bai Yiyi.”

Fang Zhiwei suddenly looked up, her gaze sorrowful as she stared at him, her voice carrying a hint of heartbreaking misery, “Ah Kai, then tell me, who would use such a despicable method to warn me, they said, if I dare to see you again, they would ruin me.”
