Grandma Liu wanted to say something, but she stopped herself. She had suggested her grandson go abroad for treatment to prevent any long-term complications, as they would affect Ah Yuan’s future.

So she decided against saying anything more.

"Why don’t you and Ah Ci stay here for a few more months, then?"

"No, Grandma. I have to take my laptop and head back to Beijing by the day after tomorrow," Huo Jingyuan refused bluntly.

It wasn’t just that Wen Ci had business to attend to; he also knew that living with elders would put pressure on her. Besides, it wasn’t suitable for their shameless, passionate life together.

"But didn’t they say you needed to rest for at least six months?"

"Yes, and I need to go to the hospital for regular dressing changes."

"There’s a sanatorium here at West Lake, too."

Huo Jingyuan’s brows knitted together. He looked at his grandmother, sighed softly, and said in a low voice, "Beijing is better for my recovery. The West Lake Sanatorium is for old cadres."

His rank was nowhere near high enough to qualify for treatment at the West Lake Sanatorium.

Suddenly, Su Wanqing chimed in, "Brother Jingyuan, why don’t I go back to Beijing with you and stay at the military hospital? I’m a surgeon, too. I could take care of you."

Before Wen Ci could say a word, Grandma Liu, sitting at the head of the table, frowned. "That wouldn’t be very appropriate, would it, Wanqing?"

Liking Su Wanqing was one thing, but that didn’t mean she would tolerate this behavior. Her grandson was a married man now, and the two of them needed to maintain a proper distance.

"What’s inappropriate about it? In the eyes of a doctor, there’s no distinction between men and women. Besides, Grandma Liu, you know that live-in doctors are very common abroad."

As she spoke, Su Wanqing paused and turned her gaze to Wen Ci, saying with feigned caution, "I just don’t know if Nurse Wen would mind."

She was deliberately pointing out that Wen Ci was a nurse.

When choosing between a nurse and a doctor for care, the choice was obvious.

Wen Ci smiled. "Sure, I don’t mind."

She genuinely didn’t mind. ’Even if I said no to her moving in, Su Wanqing would just find other ways to hover around us. The end result would be the same, so it’s better to just agree.’

"Really? Nurse Wen, you really agree to me moving into Brother Jingyuan’s home?" Su Wanqing’s voice was filled with disbelief.

The moment Su Wanqing’s words fell, Huo Jingyuan and Grandma Liu’s voices rang out in unison: "I don’t agree."

Wen Ci looked up to see Huo Jingyuan’s face had darkened. His eyes were fixed on her, and pressing his tongue lightly against his lower lip, he said, word by word:

"I don’t need a live-in doctor."

"Why?" Su Wanqing asked.

"While I’m recovering, I want to try for a child with Ah Ci. You would be intruding on our happy life as a married couple."

The man’s words were brutally direct.

Grandpa Huo choked and gave a light cough. Then, his eyes shining, he looked at Wen Ci and said with a wide grin, "Having a child is a great idea! We’ll have four generations under one roof sooner!"

Huo Jingyuan wasn’t getting any younger, after all.

Wen Ci’s cheeks flushed red. Under the table, she stomped hard on the man’s foot, her eyes narrowing as she shot him a resentful glare.

’This despicable man, talking about such things in front of the elders.’

Right there at the dinner table, Grandma Liu laid it all bare. "Wanqing, you and Ah Yuan may have been childhood sweethearts, but if it’s not meant to be, it’s not meant to be. Don’t try to force it, do you understand?"

If she didn’t make things clear now, she was worried Su Wanqing would do something to openly try and steal her husband, even if she couldn’t successfully break up a military marriage.

If reported, she would be punished, possibly even face a public reprimand. As a young woman, she would bring utter shame to her family’s elders.

Su Wanqing didn’t answer, simply lowering her head in silence.

The rest of the meal was eaten in dead silence.

「Meanwhile, at the Jiang Family’s residence.」

Jiang Chen finished packing his luggage and prepared to say goodbye to his mother. No matter how much he argued with his father, his mother had always loved him.
