First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3093 - The Brewing Chaos
The Threelives Buddha was now simultaneously the most eye-catching and the most mysterious figure in Spirit Mountain Buddhist Court. There was an incredible abundance of rumors surrounding him.
In the past, Spirit Mountain Buddhist Court had three legendary, accomplished monks, the Buddhas of the Past, Present, and Future. They’d mastered the Dharmas of the Past, Present, and Future respectively, each a supreme Buddhist legacy.
However, although few knew it, the Three Buddhas were originally the same person!
Long, long ago, in the process of fusing the complete Threelives Dharma into one body, the three Buddhas each gave rise to a Karmic Tribulation. They fell from Eternity, vanishing from the River of Destiny.
But now, they’d returned, and they’d successfully fused into one body, and Spirit Mountain Buddhist Court honored the resulting being as the Threelives Buddha. In doing so, they astonished the whole world.
Even so, very, very few had ever laid eyes on the Threelives Buddha. He kept such a low profile that there was little concrete news about him. Most of what people said about him was mere conjecture.
Now, Su Yi was telling them that it was most likely the Threelives Buddha who’d claimed the Spring and Autumn Eternal Throne. Of course they were surprised!
“Of course, that’s just a guess,” Su Yi said casually. “We’ll find out later whether it really was him or not.”
The group couldn’t help but feel rather despondent. This was an Eternal Throne! Yet someone had snatched it right under their noses. Of course they were frustrated!
“What do you plan to do next, Little Brother?” asked Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan.
Su Yi rubbed his forehead. “I’ve got a lot to take care of, but I need to stay in the Sea of Fate a while longer.”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan inclined his head. “Fei Yunzi and I will head back to the sect for now.”
Both he and Fei Yunzi had been injured during the time they’d been trapped, and their vitality was badly damaged. What mattered now was recovering their cultivation bases as quickly as possible. They could worry about everything else later.
Once the banquet ended, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan left with Fei Yunzi.
“While you’re in the Southern Sea, no matter what happens, I’ll rush over as soon as you send word,” said Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan before he left.
Su Yi smiled, then said, “Ol’ Brother, the world will soon descend into chaos. You’d best start preparing as quickly as possible.”
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan was instantly solemn, and much of his intoxication fled him. “Are you talking about the storm brewing on the Far Shore of Destiny?”
Su Yi shook his head. “No, it has nothing to do with that. I’m talking about the Outsider Celestial Demons, the Negative Karma Destiny Demons, and the Primordial Divine Court.”
The battle they’d just fought in the Sea of Fate was sure to influence and transform the world. All manner of catastrophes and widespread upheaval were likely to arrive ahead of schedule. Su Yi was sure of it.
“I understand.” Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan nodded, then sighed. “I just hope that when the chaos begins, we’ll... manage to survive it!”
He’d participated in the battle that ended the Devastation, and he’d seen its far-reaching chaos and upheaval with his own eyes. The Eternal Heavens Domain had been drenched in a rain of blood, and the masses had suffered terribly.
Even Heavenly Sovereigns died in battle. Others naturally didn’t fare any better!
Now, yet another round of chaos and upheaval loomed just over the horizon. There was no telling how serious the damage would be this time!
Before long, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan left with Fei Yunzi.
Su Yi turned to his remaining companions. “How about you accompany me in the Sea of Fate a while longer?”
River Ancestors Luo Yu and Hu Chan didn’t hesitate.
The previous battle had shaken and overturned their very perception of reality, broadening their horizons. They now revered Destiny’s Chosen with every fiber of their being.
They were no longer the least bit upset to serve him. On the contrary, they were ashamed of their former ignorance.
Heavenly Sovereigns? Experts of the Far Shore? None of them meant a thing. Even a Dao Ancestor had died, and even the Mountain of the Secluded Ones had been helpless against Su Yi’s backer. Who in this world could compare?
Moreover, Heavenly Sovereign Qingyi had benefited enormously from her association with Destiny’s Chosen. She would soon receive the personal guidance of Dao Ancestor Ruo Su!
Who wouldn’t have been envious of such good fortune?
The two River Ancestors were actually celebrating their capitulation to Su Yi. They now saw it as the wisest decision they could have made! A decision that now slowly turned the wheels of their destiny for the better!
Naturally, the way the two River Ancestors saw Su Yi had changed completely.
Su Yi noticed, but he didn’t care. He had far too much to think about for that.
“Your Excellency, what are we going to do next?” asked River Ancestor Luo Yu. River Ancestor Hu Chan listened attentively.
“We’re going to meditate,” said Su Yi.
The River Ancestors were briefly stunned, but they quickly understood. After that shocking, terrifying battle, both they and Destiny’s Chosen were injured and exhausted. They naturally needed to tend to themselves before they did anything else.
......
The battle in the Sea of Fate had ended, but its impact hadn’t.
In the Void, where the boundless world was occupied by the Outsider Celestial Demons, the ancient races of Celestial Demons all sensed it clearly. The Void Barrier separating their territories from the River of Destiny suddenly showed signs of shaking.
There were even minute cracks along its surface!
The moment the Void Barrier split, there’d be nothing separating the Void and the River of Destiny.
“What a promising development! At this rate, our people will be able to escape the Void within three years and descend upon the Eternal Heavens Domain once more!”
In the lands of the Profound Blood Demons, the seemingly youthful Demon Sovereign Xuan Shang gazed into the heavens, his eyes full of endless longing.
“Xin Cheng’er, I recently learned that you’re still alive. Wait for me. I’ll be sure to bring you back home!” murmured Demon Sovereign Xuan Shang. “With you, our people really have a chance to rule all of creation. You... had better wait for me...”
......
Meanwhile, that same day, deep within the River of Destiny, in the Silent Annihilation Forbidden Zone.
A black palace floated within the dark current.
“Ying Qi, what did those old-timers say?” Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao asked from atop her massive throne of carved bone.
Ying Qi stood at the center of the hall and said gravely, “Sovereign, the other Demon Sovereigns said their enmity with Destiny’s Chosen is irreconcilable. This won’t end until one side is annihilated.”
Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao couldn’t help but sigh, a dark, overcast look on her exquisitely beautiful face.
She’d hidden an imprint of her soul in the Medallion of Past Karma. Su Yi had sensed her presence, but she benefited nonetheless, as she’d gotten a chance to meet Mo Hanyi and the others trapped in the Abyss of Ceaseless Destiny.
She was also there to bear witness to her grandfather’s Lifeblood Contract of submission to Su Yi. That came as an enormous shock. Even now, she struggled to accept it.
Her grandfather had ordered her to do everything in her power to convince the other three Demon Sovereigns to cooperate with Destiny’s Chosen.
But now, it seemed obvious that they had little hope of success!
The Negative Karma Destiny Demons hated Destiny’s Chosen to the bone. Their grudge was like an ocean of blood. How could it possibly be resolved so easily?
Ying Qi hesitated, then said softly, “The three Demon Sovereigns said other things, too... unpleasant things.”
Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao whispered, “Did they say I’d let down our entire race with my cowardice?”
Ying Qi nodded.
Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao rubbed her forehead. “What else did they say?”
Ying Qi said softly, “They said that if you dared cooperate with Destiny’s Chosen, they’d declare you a traitor to our entire race!”
A traitor! Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao’s expression shifted.
The Negative Karma Destiny Demons had multiple Demon Sovereigns, but only four held real authority. They were the rulers of their entire race.
Demon Sovereign Ling Zhao was just one of the four. If the other three saw her as a traitor... the consequences would be far too dire!
“Forget it. Grandfather told me to do my best, but he also said that if I couldn’t succeed, I shouldn’t push it.” A determined look appeared on her face. “If they want to fight Destiny’s Chosen, they can go right ahead and do it!”
She then gazed outside the palace.
Earlier that very day, she’d noticed that the barrier around the Silent Annihilation Forbidden Zone had shaken. It was now covered in numerous new cracks!
All of this told her that it wouldn’t be long before the Negative Karma Destiny Demons fully escaped their long-lasting captivity!
......
Elsewhere, that same day, in an endlessly distant place in the upper reaches of the River of Destiny, the nine River-Stabilizing Steles swayed. Each erupted with a rain of chaos light, and mysterious Edicts arose on their stone surfaces.
A burst of laughter emanated from the third stele to the right.
“Excellent, excellent! That’s the way! Shake just a little harder, and I’ll be able to get my upper body out!”
The speaker was pale, with sunken eyes. His features were youthful, but upon closer inspection, his eyes bore the vicissitudes of countless years.
This was Sovereign Venerate Yi, the ruler of the Primordial Divine Court, the man honored as the Sovereign Among Sovereigns in the Primordial Era.
When the curtain fell on the Struggle for Heavenly Fate, he'd managed to pop his head out from under the stele.
Now, he’d managed to get his hands out, and he was joyfully batting at the current and laughing with the utmost delight and excitement.
“Founder, will you be able to break free soon?” Off in the distance, Hong Ling, a woman in a feather coat, asked through eyes misty with tears. She, too, was excited.
“It really won’t be much longer!” said Sovereign Venerate Yi.
His smile faded, and he sank briefly into thought. “If any further incidents take place, I’ll be able to break free on the spot! Even if they don’t, I’ll regain my freedom within three years tops!”
Hong Ling’s eyes reddened. She murmured, “That’s wonderful, just wonderful. Everyone in the Primordial Divine Court is waiting for you to return, Founder!”
Something suddenly occurred to Sovereign Venerate Yi. “Do you know anything about a young sword cultivator called Su Yi?”
Hong Ling nodded. “They’re talking about him throughout the Eternal Heavens Domain. This disciple has naturally heard of him.”
“Excellent. Tell me about him; the more detail, the better,” said Sovereign Venerate Yi, his expression grave. “I suspect he has deep ties with True Progenitor Shi Yin of the Chaos Fiends!”
