Chapter 3067 - The Little Boat Amidst the Tribulation Clouds

  • Next Chapter

The six Heavenly Sovereigns had left for the Sea of Fate with River Ancestor Luo Yu’s avatar!

When Su Yi heard the news, he couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. At first, he’d assumed Heavenly Sovereign E was waiting for him alone in Shattered Star City so that he could monopolize Su Yi’s good fortune.

In truth, there’d been three other Heavenly Sovereigns waiting for him there.

Now, two more had joined the group. This was indeed outside Su Yi’s expectations.

That meant that every Heavenly Sovereign save for Hua Qingyi, Lu Hongpao, and Ku Xuan had gathered in one place!

“Heavenly Sovereign E really is insidious. Your Excellency, there’s no telling what kind of ambush would have been waiting for you had you gone to Shattered Star City,” River Ancestor Hu Chan said gravely.

Six Heavenly Sovereigns! A lineup like that was indeed far too terrifying.

“But His Excellency still managed to lead them around by the nose, didn’t he?” River Ancestor Luo Yu glanced admiringly at Su Yi.

Su Yi had never even seriously considered going to Shattered Star City, nor had he even contemplated actually meeting Heavenly Sovereign E on Converging Currents Island.

This was a diversion. He was using his opponents’ strength against them to lead them around by the nose. Even if they knew they were being messed with, they had little choice but to endure and come with him!

Who else beneath the heavens could compare?

Su Yi, however, was already pondering something else. “Setting aside the Eternal Throne, is there other extraordinary good fortune hidden in the Sea of Fate?”

The two River Ancestors blinked in surprise, then shook their heads to indicate that they didn’t know.

However, both of them realized that something wasn’t quite right. Six Heavenly Sovereigns had come in person. Had they really come just to seize the Eternal Throne and kill Su Yi?

Had they perhaps rallied such a force to accomplish other goals as well?

It seems I’ll need to converse with the mysterious man in the dried-up well, thought Su Yi. He had a strong premonition that the secrets hidden in the Sea of Fate were nowhere near as simple as he imagined.

But first, he had to find Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan.

“Next, we’ve got to wait for Heavenly Sovereign E to lead the way. Then, all we have to do is follow him,” said Su Yi. “Luo Yu, contact your avatar once an hour to reduce the risk of anything unexpected happening.”

“Got it!” River Ancestor Luo Yu nodded his assent.

Su Yi then asked about the scrap metal, but just as he expected, he hadn’t overlooked anything. It really was just ruined junk.

Without any further delays, they resumed their journey with River Ancestor Luo Yu as their guide. He took out a boat, which carried the three of them over the water’s surface.

Su Yi sat cross-legged, then took out the Heavenly Fate Elixir he had just acquired, the nine-segmented lotus, and started refining it.

Both River Ancestors’ eyelids twitched. That’s a Heavenly Fate Elixir! Even Heavenly Sovereigns save them for critical junctures. They could never bear to use one under ordinary circumstances.

Yet Destiny’s Chosen is treating this priceless treasure like ordinary cultivation resources. He’s simply... desecrating a treasure!

But the two River Ancestors knew better than to say anything. It wasn’t their place to comment on how Destiny’s Chosen did things.

By now, the two of them had discovered that although they now served Su Yi, they really hadn’t suffered any cruel or harsh treatment. Moreover, Su Yi was quite relaxed and broadminded. He wasn’t the least bit imperious, and he seldom ordered them around.

Thus, both River Ancestors had relaxed considerably.

As they made their way over the water, Su Yi sat and meditated. River Ancestor Luo Yu steered the boat, and River Ancestor Hu Chan stood guard.

And indeed, they encountered considerable danger, but they managed to avoid it all.

The rest of the Sea of Fate wasn’t so calm. One terrifying, bloody catastrophe was unfolding after another.

......

The whole world was paying attention to recent developments deep in the Sea of Fate. Countless cultivators had come to investigate the disturbance.

That was particularly true as the changes drew to a close. Many cultivators couldn’t hold back any longer. They formed groups, then left to investigate.

Risk and reward went hand-in-hand. That was especially true for cultivators; good fortune and fortuitous encounters were crucial to their success.

“Quick, look! There’s something strange on that island!” A group of cultivators was searching for good fortune when someone suddenly called out, drawing the others’ attention.

A solitary island had appeared in the previously flat, waveless waters in the distance, like a hill jutting out of the ocean.

There was a colorful rain of the light of the Grand Dao clustered over the island, extraordinarily eye-catching against the murky darkness.

Good fortune!

All of the cultivators were excited, but they hadn’t lost their rationality. On the contrary, this development made them all the more cautious. All of them prepared thoroughly before cautiously drawing closer.

As they drew near, they saw that the resplendent rain of light originated from a snow-white skeleton!

The skeleton wore a blood-stained feather coat, and its head was missing. Half of its body was damaged almost beyond recognition, but its hands still clutched a snapped spear.

Only about two feet of the spear remained. It was gold throughout, and the resplendent rain of the Grand Dao flowed from its surface, rising like mist to dye the surrounding air all the colors of the rainbow.

The cultivators’ breathing sped up. They were instantly certain that the corpse, its feather coat, and its broken spear were each extraordinary good fortune!

The spear in particular had to be something special.

Every cultivator here was an experienced old-timer accustomed to battle. They knew that the greater the good fortune, the greater the corresponding danger. Thus, they paused to discuss their next steps before getting to work.

But before they even reached the little island, a deep sigh resounded throughout heaven and earth.

Their expressions shifted, and all of them retreated immediately, without the slightest hesitation.

At least, they tried to. Much to their horror, time and space had been sealed and frozen throughout the surrounding area. They were like bugs encased in ice, unable to move. 𝑓𝑟ℯℴ𝓂

They could only watch as the battered, snow-white skeleton slowly sat upright. Eerie flames ignited midair where its hollow eye sockets should be.

“Fate cannot be defied, nor can it be escaped. You’re so weak. Why throw your own lives away? Why leap headfirst into the current of negative karma? How tragic!” The skeleton rose, using its broken spear for balance, then gazed into the heavens. “Your tragic fate is sealed. How pitiful!”

As the skeleton’s sorrowful voice rang out, the cultivators’ bodies, souls, and life force silently dissipated. In the end, their ashes scattered, vanishing without stirring up so much as a single ripple on the ocean’s surface.

“This was a tribulation of fate, the ultimate judgment of destiny. Coming here means reaching the end... of your destiny...” murmured the skeletal spearman. “You shouldn’t have come here. I should never have come here, either...”

A moment later, the skeleton vanished into thin air. Even the island sank back into the water, and soon, there was no trace that either had ever been here.

......

Similar strange scenes took place throughout the Sea of Fate.

The withered, rotted corpse of an old man appeared out of nowhere, holding a cracked mirror caked with blood. A group of cultivators was reflected on its surface.

The cultivators were thousands of miles away, but when the long-dead old man gently tapped the mirror's surface, all of them were instantly reduced to ash, dead before they could even react.

......

A middle-aged Daoist, or rather, the half-corpse that remained of him, silently floated out of the water’s depths. Years of being submerged in the water had damaged his face to the point that his bones peeked out from beneath the tattered flesh.

His gaze was wooden even as he stretched out his hand and grabbed.

A bolt of black lightning shot down from the distant skies, enveloping the surrounding three thousand miles of water in crackling, churning lightning.

Any cultivators in the area were instantly snuffed out.

......

“Yet again... so many have come to throw their lives away... Why? Why... are there so many fools... ready to die... in their pursuit of the Grand Dao?” A shrill, hoarse voice resounded through the clouds, like the wheezing of bellows.

A group of cultivators looked up in horror, then spotted a blood-red figure emerging from the tribulation clouds overhead.

She was an extraordinarily beautiful woman.

At least, she would have been if her flesh hadn’t been split into countless pieces. Tendrils of flesh wriggled like worms and continuously pieced her body back together.

However, every time they succeeded, her body split into pieces again, and the process began all over again.

Only her head was unaffected. The look on her ethereal, dreamlike face never so much as shifted.

When the cultivators saw this, their bodies exploded into pieces, then shattered into ash and vanished into the seawater.

The woman raised a bloody hand, stroked her hair, and murmured, “Where did my hairpin go...?”

......

All of these strange scenes and blood-soaked cataclysms arose silently, then faded away, leaving little trace behind.

The tribulation clouds over the Sea of Fate couldn’t have been any denser. They filled every last inch of sky, stopping just above the water’s surface!

There was originally an enormous distance separating the sea and the heavens, but the layer of tribulation clouds was thick enough to connect them.

Unbelievably, a black boat floated among the layer of clouds so thick as to connect the ocean and the sky. The boat wasn’t big, just ten or so feet long, but it was pitch-black throughout, as if it were forged out of a curtain of night.

It floated on the water, bathed in dense tribulation clouds, unmoving, as if it were waiting for something.

There was nothing on board. The boat was completely empty

But beneath it, just below the water’s surface, there was a seemingly endless, dense pile of corpses, like a forest of bodies growing out of the ocean floor.

In a distant stretch, far from the cloud-enveloped sea, there stood a man in Daoist robes and a lotus crown. He had distinctive, elegant features, a willowy beard, and an otherworldly air. His fair skin glistened like jade.

When the man saw the tribulation clouds, he smiled faintly, then whispered, “I’ll return once I’ve gotten my hands on the Cauldron of Fate!

With that, he turned to leave, vanishing in a single step, as fleeting as the shadow of a goose passing over a cold lake.
