First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 3044 - Weaving a Miracle

Su Yi emerged through the sect’s gates, then stood alone, one hand behind his back, the other holding a jug of wine. “The Taiwu Sect won’t get involved. I’ll wait for your allies to get here. Let’s fight once everyone is here.”

He then disregarded them and started drinking.

The Heavenly Monarchs of the Taiwu Sect were instantly stunned.

“Are you planning to sacrifice yourself to save the Taiwu Sect from disaster?” The man in black, Fu Ying, exclaimed. “I wouldn’t have guessed you were so noble!”

It sounded like a compliment, but his words were dripping with mockery.

“Noble? Hah! He had no other choice!” someone else said with a cold laugh. “If not for so many Heavenly Sovereign factions joining forces, there’s no way he’d be throwing his life away like this. He must have given in to despair!”

Someone else said gravely, “Su Yi, since you’ve decided to step forth and face the consequences of your actions, why not be straightforward about it? Just surrender and come quietly.”

All of the Heavenly Monarchs were talking at once. Some jeered, others expressed their excitement, while still others tried to probe for further information. They were certain that Su Yi had stepped forth alone because the Taiwu Sect had forsaken him. They’d forced him to bear the consequences alone!

Su Yi disregarded their mockery and just stood there, drinking in silence.

Sect Leader Wu Zhe and the others watched from within the sect. All of them were frantic with worry.

“Sect Leader, forgive my pessimism, but if battle breaks out beyond the formation and something happens to Fellow Daoist Su, should we... save him or not?” one of the old monsters asked in a hushed whisper.

Saving Su Yi would force the whole sect to join the battle. Who could bear the consequences of that? It would mean disaster for the entire sect! But if they didn’t save Su Yi, their founder would be the first in line to punish them!

“For now, let’s just watch and see what happens,” Wu Zhe said with a sigh.

He, too, felt trapped between a rock and a hard place. He had no idea what to do. He couldn’t let Su Yi die, but he also had to protect the lives of everyone in the Taiwu Sect. It was a difficult choice indeed!

Over on the cliffside, Hua Qingyi realized something. The experts of the Taiwu Sect obviously have no idea of recent developments in the outside world. That’s why they’re so frantic and ill at ease.

But she didn’t explain. When the fighting broke out, the outcome would prove that the Taiwu Sect’s fears were entirely unfounded.

Heaven and earth were deathly silent. The atmosphere was stifled and oppressive.

Su Yi stood there in silence, unmoving. The cultivators of the Court of the Southern Heavens were delighted to see this. They knew that Su Yi’s reputation was well deserved. None of them thought the few of them would be enough to take him down.

The general populace didn’t know about the Struggle for Heavenly Fate, but these were Heavenly Monarchs of the Court of the Southern Heavens. They’d naturally heard the full story.

Even if they didn’t want to admit it, the experts of the Heavenly Sovereign factions all acknowledged Su Yi as the Greatest of the Unthroned. He was even more terrifying than Jiang Wuchen had been!

It was for this reason that as arrogant and aggressive as the Heavenly Sovereigns of the Court of the Southern Heavens seemed, they were all inwardly on guard. They weren’t trying to achieve any great merit, but rather, to avoid making any dangerous mistakes.

All they had to do was stall until reinforcements arrived. Then, victory would be theirs!

Time slipped by. Soon, the armies of the Court of the Southern Heavens, Limitless Palace, Sevendeaths Court, the Xuanli Sect, and Eternal Lightning Court arrived, one by one.

Each faction had sent over one hundred Heavenly Monarchs, and all of them had come to join the battle!

The dense army of Heavenly Monarchs covered the surrounding area. A lineup like this would have been a miraculous sight anywhere in the Eternal Heavens Domains!

Su Yi spotted a few familiar faces. All of them had been participants in the Struggle for Heavenly Fate.

They included Pei Shi of Limitless Palace, one of the mightiest Heavenly Monarchs of the older generation.

There was also Daoist Five Harmonies of the Court of the Southern Heavens, Heavenly Sovereign Changhen’s martial nephew. He was one of the mightiest Heavenly Monarchs in his sect.

Ancestor Guang Ji of Eternal Lightning Court was there, too. He was every bit as famous as Pei Shi and Daoist Five Harmonies.

But that was the extent of it. All of these old-timers had been disqualified during the Struggle for Heavenly Fate. None had made it into even the semifinals.

And Su Yi had overpowered even the heaven-defying monsters of the Far Shore to seize first place.

At the time, he’d only recently broken into the Immeasurable Realm, and while he’d given rise to the Light of the Heart, he’d yet to ignite his Natal Heart Lamp.

Su Yi could tell that although his enemies had an overwhelming advantage in numbers, only a few of these Heavenly Monarchs were actually from the Heavenly Sovereign factions. The rest were obviously from their subordinate factions.

Heaven and earth shifted, and the sun and moon dimmed. An austere, murderous air permeated the surroundings.

Almost six hundred Heavenly Monarchs stood outside the Taiwu Sect’s gates. The pressure was such that Wu Zhe and the others could barely breathe. They’d never felt anything like this before. Who but a Heavenly Sovereign could defend against such a massive army of Heavenly Monarchs?

“Su Yi! We’ve already sent word back to our sects, and the Heavenly Sovereigns already know you’re here. I urge you to give up the struggle. Come quietly and save yourself some pain,” Pei Shi said gravely, his voice booming far and wide.

Su Yi had overwhelmed him in the first round of the Struggle for Heavenly Fate. He was naturally painfully aware of Su Yi’s terrifying strength.

Still, they had such an overwhelming advantage in numbers that Pei Shi wasn’t at all afraid of Su Yi. He was far more concerned that the Taiwu Sect would intervene!

After all, they were right outside the Taiwu Sect’s gates. If the Taiwu Sect activated its formations to protect him, it would mean serious trouble.

Thus, he’d only just said this when he faced the gates of the Taiwu Sect and said, “Also, I urge the Taiwu Sect to behave. You ought to know better than anyone how badly an all-out battle will go for you.”

He made no attempt to disguise the threat. Sect Leader Wu Zhe and the others’ expressions darkened. All of them felt anger and frustration building in their chests, to the point that they felt as if they might explode. Their enemies stood directly outside their gates, flaunting their military might. Of course they were furious!

Clang!

Su Yi had said nothing all this time, but now he suddenly gripped his wooden sword. A low hum resounded throughout heaven and earth, quelling the voices of everyone present.

The hostile Heavenly Monarchs were stunned. What? Don’t tell me he really plans to fight us all alone?

Su Yi’s blue robes floated around him as he walked into the sky and said calmly, “All of you can rest assured. The Taiwu Sect won’t intervene, and I... won’t run away!”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, Su Yi attacked.

He took a step forward, and his presence swept forth like a hurricane. Unstoppable, tyrannical sword force suppressed and collapsed the surrounding skies, throwing everything into upheaval.

The Heavenly Monarchs at the front of the army looked stricken. This was just the force emanating from Su Yi, yet it slammed into them like a raging tidal wave.

Pei Shi, Daoist Five Harmonies, and the other Piercing Illusions Stage old monsters immediately bellowed, “Attack!”

Boom!

Hundreds of Heavenly Monarchs attacked at once, their combined power filling the surrounding thirty thousand miles. Shocking arcs of the Grand Dao ripped the sky to shreds and threw yin and yang into disarray.

The Taiwu Sect’s defensive formation rumbled and boomed as it tried to stave off the damage.

Wu Zhe and the old monsters gasped, their hearts on tenterhooks, and all of the sect’s disciples panicked.

This scene was far too terrifying. Six hundred Heavenly Monarchs were attacking at once. Throughout the ages, such scenes were highly rare indeed.

That concentrated killing intent affected even the weather. A calamitous aura surged beneath the dome of heaven, blanketing the entire Blackwater Celestial Capital. Every cultivator living there was overcome with panic and despair.

Has a battle between Heavenly Sovereigns begun? What else could have triggered such terrifying phenomena?

Meanwhile, Hua Qingyi rose, then watched in great interest. Intriguing. A swarm of ants is trying to devour an elephant. That’s actually quite a spectacle in its own right.

Boom!

The grand battle had already begun. Su Yi struck with domineering force, swinging his sword. Slashes fell from the heavens like rain.

As boundless sword qi swept forth, it burst through the enemy vanguard. Magic treasures exploded, and bodies tore apart. Blood splattered the air like stark crimson fireworks.

Just like that, over a dozen Heavenly Monarchs died in battle.

Meanwhile, Su Yi charged straight into their ranks. From a distance, he was like an unstoppably sharp ice pick, cleaving a hole through the vast army as easily as if they were made of rotten wood.

Wherever his sword pointed, Heavenly Monarchs died in droves.

Overwhelming sword force tore any enemy foolish enough to block Su Yi’s path to ribbons. They offered no more resistance than paper.

These were Heavenly Monarchs, experts of the fifth and final realm of Eternity. Even the weakest, those in the Grasping the Profound Stage, could dominate entire regions, while the strongest, the Piercing Illusions Stage experts, could found their own sects even in the Five Great Continents.

Yet now, no matter their status and regardless of whether they were in the Grasping the Profound Stage or the Piercing Illusions Stage, none could block even a single hit from Su Yi!

Heaven and earth were in chaos, with visions of destruction on all sides. Desperate cries shook the heavens. Fragments of treasure flew through the air, intermingled with blood and gore.

And Su Yi was at the center of it all. His blue robes billowed around him, and his whole body was bathed in flowing sword qi. Wherever he went, he left a trail of carnage.

Wu Zhe and the other old monsters watched from beyond the formation. All of them were overcome with astonishment.

Earlier, they’d been afraid that something bad would happen to Su Yi, and they’d questioned whether or not to go to his aid.

No one entertained such questions anymore. All of their concerns had evaporated.

“Fellow Daoist Su... is already this unbelievably strong?” Wu Zhe murmured in a daze. He’d participated in the Struggle for Heavenly Fate, too. He’d watched Su Yi overcome one powerful foe after another to seize first place.

But now, just a year later, Wu Zhe was astonished to discover that Su Yi’s strength had undergone an earth-shaking transformation since he’d last seen him.

He was like a completely different person!

It wasn’t just Wu Zhe. Everyone in the Taiwu Sect was overcome with astonishment as they watched Su Yi weave a miracle out of bloodshed and death.

He fought alone save for the sword in his hand, yet he’d pierced through the enemy ranks, killing all who stood in his way with invincible momentum.

How often did the world behold such magnificence?
