First Immortal of the Sword
Chapter 3042 - Targeting the Taiwu Sect
The Blackwater Celestial Capital was one of the Eternal Heavens Domain’s Five Great Celestial Capitals, as well as the territory of the Taiwu Sect.
Not long ago, several Heavenly Sovereign factions jointly declared war on the Taiwu Sect, shocking the entire world.
The Heavenly Sovereign factions had yet to attack, but the threat had caused an enormous disturbance in the Blackwater Celestial Capital. All its cultivation factions panicked, and many began arranging their departures. Some even left in a hurry, abandoning their former territories overnight.
After all, if battle broke out between Heavenly Sovereign factions, the flames of war and bloodshed would sweep the entire Blackwater Celestial Capital, stirring up untold carnage.
This was what people meant when they said, “When gods and immortals fight, it’s the mortals who suffer.”
Thus, of late, the entire Blackwater Celestial Capital was ill at ease, tumultuous, and uncertain. This sense of frantic panic spread even within the Taiwu Sect—no, they felt it all the more keenly.
As a Heavenly Sovereign faction, the Taiwu Sect’s foundations were naturally extraordinary. Nonetheless, the threat of multiple Heavenly Sovereign factions attacking at once put enormous pressure on them.
The part that worried them most was that even now, there was no sign of their founder, Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan. They hadn’t even received a message or any kind of instructions.
They were like dragons without a leader. Of course, their hearts were in turmoil!
Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan was the pillar of the Taiwu Sect, yet now that they faced the threat of multiple Heavenly Sovereign factions at once, he was nowhere to be found. This naturally left the entire sect ill at ease.
Were that the extent of it, it’d have been one thing, as Sect Leader Wu Zhe and a whole group of old monsters were there to oversee things. But the worst part was that of late, numerous Heavenly Sovereign factions had brazenly sent armies of experts right into the Blackwater Celestial Capital!
The Court of the Southern Heavens, Limitless Palace, Sevendeaths Court, the Xuanli Sect, and Eternal Lightning Court—each of these Heavenly Sovereign factions had sent over one hundred Heavenly Monarchs, including three Piercing Illusions Stage old monsters. That meant there were over five hundred Heavenly Monarchs in total, and that’s before even factoring in everyone else.
Such a lineup was terrifying enough to shake the entire Eternal Heavens Domain. Everyone was paying attention.
And this was just the power they revealed on the surface. There was no telling how many more experts had yet to show themselves!
When the armies of the Heavenly Sovereign factions arrived, they set up camp in a city just thirty thousand miles from the Blackwater Celestial Capital.
To Heavenly Monarchs, thirty thousand miles was nothing. They could cover that distance in a snap of the fingers.
They’d practically set up camp right outside the Taiwu Sect’s gates!
This was blatant provocation. They made no attempt to hide their aggression whatsoever.
All of this told the general populace that a battle between Heavenly Sovereigns might well break out at any moment!
But against all expectations, even when their enemies “descended upon their borders,” the Taiwu Sect did nothing at all.
In the past, had anyone provoked them so brazenly or attempted to invade the Blackwater Celestial Capital, the Taiwu Sect would have suppressed and killed them without mercy. Yet now, the Taiwu Sect did nothing at all. It was only natural that people’s imaginations would run wild.
“They’re practically walking all over the Taiwu Sect. How can the Taiwu Sect endure it?”
“What other choice do they have? Surely you don’t think they should just declare war? If they do, the Blackwater Celestial Capital will be leveled overnight!”
“But... surely they can’t just turtle up and hide forever as their enemies show off their military might?”
“Don’t you realize? Heavenly Sovereign Ku Xuan is nowhere to be found. That’s why the Taiwu Sect is in such a passive position!”
The whole world was discussing the situation. Everyone was paying attention to developments in the Blackwater Celestial Capital.
Everyone could tell that this was only the beginning. Soon, a true battle would erupt, and the Taiwu Sect would have to fight for its survival!
This was the scene that greeted Su Yi and Hua Qingyi when they arrived in the Blackwater Celestial Capital.
“I’m afraid something has happened to Ku Xuan. Otherwise, how could he tolerate this? He’d have attacked a long time ago,” whispered Hua Qingyi.
She and Su Yi were hurtling toward the Taiwu Sect’s gates, but they’d hidden their presence, and they didn’t draw any attention.
“I suspect the exact opposite,” said Su Yi. “So long as Ol’ Brother Ku Xuan stays out of sight, the Heavenly Sovereign factions won’t dare to cause trouble. As I’m sure you can see, despite all this blatant provocation, they still haven't attacked. That’s because they’re afraid that Ol’ Brother Ku Xuan will attack them or their factions in turn the moment they leave.
"The moment he shows himself, the other Heavenly Sovereigns will personally join the battle. When that happens, large-scale conflict will inevitably break out. The Taiwu Sect won’t be able to withstand such a blow. Thus, Ol’ Brother Ku Xuan has decided not to show himself, and indeed, it’s the wisest thing he could do, as it’s keeping his enemies on guard.”
Hua Qingyi blinked in surprise. “Sure, but turtling up in their shells forever won’t solve the problem, now will it?”
Su Yi had a complicated look on his face. “No. The moment I show up, the crisis facing the Taiwu Sect will melt away completely.”
Only then did Hua Qingyi understand. “You’re saying that this attack on the Taiwu Sect is really a roundabout way of targeting you?”
Su Yi nodded. “I have the Yitian Eternal Throne, and the Heavenly Sovereigns naturally cannot tolerate me becoming a Heavenly Sovereign, but they can’t locate me. This is the only way they can think of to force me into the open.”
“But the situation has changed,” said Hua Qingyi.
Su Yi laughed. “That’s right. With you here, Fellow Daoist, the ‘threat’ facing the Taiwu Sect amounts to nothing at all!”
She glared at him, then snorted coldly. “Why didn’t I realize that you were such a capable flatterer? No wonder you attract so many bootlickers. Birds of a feather really do flock together.”
Hua Qingyi vividly recalled the way Pu Xuan flattered Su Yi. That was the pinnacle of mastery, supreme perfection.
Su Yi said with exasperation, “Every word I just said came straight from the heart. You cannot accuse me like this!”
“Not even a ghost would believe that,” Hua Qingyi said coldly.
Su Yi smiled. “It’s enough that you believe it.”
“You sure are thick-skinned!”
“I consider that a compliment!”
Hua Qingyi glared at him. “Since when were you so shameless?”
“Shameless? You’ve really wronged me this time. We’ve been traveling together for years, and you know me well by now. Surely you understand what kind of person I am?”
“Hmph!”
Su Yi chuckled. He quite enjoyed joking around like this. Miss Baa Baa Black Sheep was cold, aloof, sharp-tongued, and tyrannical, but when they were together, he could speak freely, and he felt utterly relaxed.
They were still laughing and chatting when they reached the gates of the Taiwu Sect.
To Su Yi’s surprise, the gates were tightly shut and covered in formations. The sect was thoroughly separated from the outside world. It seemed the entire sect had hidden itself like a turtle in its shell, too scared to poke out its head.
“There are numerous enemy scouts stationed near the Taiwu Sect,” Hua Qingyi warned. “Shall we kill them first?”
Su Yi shook his head. “No need for that. Let’s pay them a visit and get a feel for the situation first, then decide what to do next.”
“Oh,” said Hua Qingyi. “Alright, just do whatever you think is best.”
She’d always been this way. She was responsible for the fighting and nothing else. Everything else was up to Su Yi to decide. The way she put it, she couldn’t be bothered to do all that thinking.
But there was no denying that having her travel with him made it far easier to stay hidden. They’d made it all this way without anyone sensing their arrival. Even though they were standing right outside the Taiwu Sect’s gates, no one had sensed their arrival.
Su Yi pondered briefly, then walked over to the gate and used his divine sense to transmit, “Su Yi has come to visit!”
Those outside heard nothing, but everyone in the sect heard every word clearly. The old monsters guarding the place were instantly startled.
“Su Yi? What’s he doing here?”
“Quick, inform the sect leader!”
Sect Leader Wu Zhe was in the middle of a meeting with a group of the sect’s higher-ups. When they learned that Su Yi had come calling, all of them were visibly gobsmacked. Su Yi? What’s he doing here?
Only Sect Leader Wu Zhe was instantly certain that Su Yi had come because he’d heard that other Heavenly Sovereign factions had declared war on the Taiwu Sect.
“This is bad!” Wu Zhe’s heart sank, as he was naturally well aware that the threat to the Taiwu Sect was actually a trick to lure Su Yi out into the open.
Something happened to the founder, and he isn’t in the sect. Now, Su Yi’s shown up. If they discover him... Once this thought occurred to him, Wu Zhe could no longer remain seated. He rose and hurried to the sect gates.
...
The higher-ups quietly opened a path through the killing formations, then gaped in astonishment, as there was nothing outside their gates at all.
A moment later, they were astonished to discover that Su Yi and a woman in black had appeared in their midst.
This... Everyone was stunned. What a wondrous concealment technique. They actually deceived us all! Fortunately, Su Yi isn’t our enemy. Otherwise, he could have killed us before we even saw him coming!
“Long time no see, Fellow Daoist.” Su Yi smiled and clasped his fist.
Wu Zhe sighed. “I won’t lie to you, Fellow Daoist. Under the circumstances, I’d prefer not to see you, yet here you are. Why do something so muddle-headed?”
He paused, then took a moment to calm himself. His gaze landed on Hua Qingyi. “Who is this?”
Hua Qingyi said with cold indifference, “You chat. Just pretend I’m not even here.”
With that, she leaped onto a distant cliff, casually took a seat, and stared at the sea of clouds.
She was acting like the Taiwu Sect was her own personal garden. That was no way for a guest to act. Her sheer rudeness left the sect’s old monsters flabbergasted and a bit uncomfortable. If Su Yi hadn’t been close to their founder, they’d have chastised him and his ill-mannered companion by now.
Only Sect Leader Wu Zhe looked thoughtful. He got the vague sense he’d seen the woman in black before. She did, after all, cut quite the distinctive figure. Still, he couldn’t quite place her.
“Don’t take offense. That’s simply how she is. Don’t mind her,” said Su Yi. He didn’t explain her identity; that would waste too much time.
Instead, Su Yi cut straight to the chase. “I’m here to see Ol’ Brother Ku Xuan.”
