First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2973 - My Hatred Is Not Yet Sated

Blood permeated the air. The surrounding mountains and rivers withered, and all of creation collapsed. Everything was desolate and bleak.

Su Yi stood amidst it all, blue robes swaying around him as a wisp of soul struggled in his grip and cried out like mad.

The face of Wang Chu’s soul was hideously contorted, and his shouts were frenzied. “If you’ve got the balls, kill me! What, are you too afraid? Coward!”

His body had been destroyed, and his powers of the Grand Dao had collapsed. All that remained of him was this wisp of his soul. It was such a heavy blow that even he, the junior apprentice brother of the leader of Sevendeaths Court, completely flew off the handle.

Even if he survived this, his wounds were so severe that his cultivation base was sure to plummet. There was no way he’d ever return to his former peak strength.

To an unparalleled Heavenly Monarch, that was a fate worse than death!

Su Yi disregarded him, then gazed into the distance. “If you dare run, you’ll die on the spot.”

Ren Dongshi stiffened, his expression shifting as he pictured Yong Zhou’s inexplicable demise. He hesitated, then put away the escape talisman in his sleeves and sighed. “Every debt has its debtor. I wasn’t the one who chased Lian Luo and Pu Xuan, Fellow Daoist. I humbly request your understanding.”

“Ren Dongshi, are you seriously fucking wimping out now? To think you’re the most dazzling Heavenly Monarch in Limitless Palace! This is your sect’s territory, yet here you are, talking like a sniveling coward. You’ve disgraced your entire sect!” shouted Wang Chu.

Ren Dongshi disregarded him, looked at Su Yi, and said with the utmost seriousness, “To tell the truth, when I shattered Pu Xuan’s bones, I placed a Poisonous Chaluo Worm inside his body. It’s not particularly powerful, but only I can remove it. If anything happens to me, it’ll finish devouring his vital source energy within nine days’ time. He’ll be completely doomed.

“If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to check his body yourself. If you do, I’m sure you’ll be able to sense the Poisonous Chaluo Worm’s presence.”

Pu Xuan’s heart sank, and his expression shifted.

However, Su Yi remained as calm as ever. He’d seen such tricks many times over the course of his ten lives, and he didn’t find this situation the least bit strange.

It was then that Wang Chu realized what was happening. He roared, “So, Ren Dongshi, you were hiding something like this? Does that mean that if Su Yi hadn’t shown up, you’d have used the Poisonous Chaluo Worm to run off with Pu Xuan?”

This was what really pissed him off.

Ren Dongshi sighed. “Yes, but there was no need to point it out. If you hadn’t, we could have remained on good terms. That said, it seems you’ll be dead before the day is through, so there’s no need to hide the truth any longer. You’re right. I am indeed targeting Pu Xuan. It’s the reason I agreed to help you.”

He paused. “Is there any point discussing that now?”

Wang Chu’s soul body quivered with fury, but Ren Dongshi disregarded him and looked at Su Yi. “I just want to live; I have no interest in mutual destruction. If you’re willing to show mercy and let me leave, I’ll remove the Poisonous Chaluo Worm from Pu Xuan’s body immediately!”

“Aren’t you afraid I’ll agree, then kill you anyway?” asked Su Yi.

Ren Dongshi laughed with complete confidence. “I’ve researched your affairs, and I know you like the back of my own hand. I know that when you agree to something, you never go back on your word!”

Su Yi subtly inclined his head. “Very well. I agree.”

Ren Dongshi reacted as if he’d just been granted an imperial pardon. He visibly relaxed, then gave Pu Xuan a jade slip. “This contains a secret method. With it, you can easily remove the Poisonous Chaluo Worm from your body. Try it and see.”

Pu Xuan took the slip, read its contents, and got started. Within moments, he opened his mouth and spat up a mouthful of blood essence. There was a purple worm in the puddle of crimson liquid.

The worm was just about to flee when Su Yi cut it down.

Ren Dongshi thought nothing of it. On the contrary, he clasped his palm and said, “You’ve seen my sincerity. Are you satisfied now, Fellow Daoist?”

Su Yi said casually, “First, leave behind your treasures.”

Ren Dongshi’s smile faded, suddenly forced. “Are you planning to go back on your word?”

Su Yi said calmly, “Will you leave them or not?”

Ren Dongshi fell briefly silent, then sighed and smiled. “It’s only right. After all, I aided and abetted an evildoer, and I injured Fellow Daoist Pu Xuan. It’s perfectly natural that I’d have to give up my treasures to make amends.”

With that, he waved his sleeve, and a storage treasure landed in front of Pu Xuan.

Su Yi didn’t even look at it. He just said, “Take out everything you keep in reserve, too. Don’t make me search you personally.”

Ren Dongshi’s expression shifted erratically, and he was obviously working hard to suppress his fury. In the end, he said nothing. He just took out a dozen secret treasures and waved his sleeve. All of them landed in front of Pu Xuan.

They included talismans, seals, and puppets. All were different, but some were suitable for Heavenly Sovereigns!

Ren Dongshi was, after all, an unparalleled Heavenly Monarch of Limitless Palace. It was only logical that he’d have deep pockets.

“I swear on my life and heart that there’s nothing else!” Ren Dongshi said solemnly. “Now please, keep your promise and permit me to leave.”

It would have been obvious to everyone that Ren Dongshi was going all out. He had incomparable faith in Su Yi’s character. That was why he was so willing to lower his head.

Su Yi flipped his palm, put Wang Chu’s soul away, then attacked suddenly. A swath of sword qi exploded into being, then cleaved at Ren Dongshi.

Ren Dongshi’s expression shifted, and he immediately fled. At least, he tried to. That terrifying sword qi still brushed him, tearing open his clothes—and his flesh, too.

“You lied to me!?” Ren Dongshi roared.

Su Yi said calmly, “I said you could leave. I never said you could leave unscathed.”

“You—!” Ren Dongshi’s face was ashen with anger.

Lian Luo and Pu Xuan watched with deep satisfaction. Yes! That’s how you handle a shameless enemy like him!

Boom!

Heaven and earth swayed as Su Yi attacked once more.

Ren Dongshi in no way dared to fight him head-on. He used a forbidden escape technique at the cost of damage to his cultivation base, blurred into a beam of gray light, and vanished.

Su Yi’s gaze was as calm as ever. He stood in place, his Heart Soul rising and taking hold of the Sword of Proximity.

Three hundred thousand feet away, the skies were thrown into upheaval. A desperate, agonized scream rang out as Ren Dongshi tumbled out of the air.

“You managed to survive that attack? You’re actually somewhat capable,” exclaimed Su Yi as he flew toward Ren Dongshi.

Hatred was written all over Ren Dongshi’s face. He hissed, “Su Yi, this is the Divine Wandering Continent, Limitless Palace’s territory! I’ve already sent word to the sect. It won’t be long before we’ve sealed off the entire Obscured Heavens Mountains! You won’t be able to escape disaster then!”

As his voice rang out, a talisman appeared in his grip, but just as he was about to shatter it...

Splurt!

A streak of sword qi exploded into being, severing Ren Dongshi’s right arm—and by extension, the hand holding the talisman.

As blood splattered from the stump, Su Yi charged explosively. One hand seized Ren Dongshi by the throat, while the other held his severed arm aloft.

“I told you to give me all of your treasures, yet you hid a talisman? That’s rather dishonest of you,” said Su Yi.

He tightened his grip, crushing Ren Dongshi’s severed arm and burning the pieces to ash. Meanwhile, the talisman landed in his palm.

Ren Dongshi shouted, “Kill me, and Pu Xuan is doomed, too!”

“Oh?” said Su Yi. “I guessed that the jade slip you gave him wouldn’t really be enough to fully remove the Poisonous Chaluo Worm. Otherwise, how could you have given it up so easily?”

Ren Dongshi laughed coldly. “If you know that, you naturally ought to understand just how grave the consequences of killing me would be!”

Su Yi said softly, “The name ‘Poisonous Chaluo Worm’ is fake, isn’t it?”

Ren Dongshi said coldly, “All I have to say is, let me go, and I guarantee that Pu Xuan lives, too!”

Su Yi shook his wrist, and countless invisible blades ran Ren Dongshi through, reducing his fleshly body to a puddle of blood. It fell from the sky and landed on the ground.

The glittering silver flying sword hidden in his body was now on full display for all to see.

Su Yi grabbed it, then examined it briefly. “I knew you were hiding other hidden cards. Heavenly Sovereign Wen forged this talisman sword himself, didn’t he? When activated, it’s as powerful as one of his full-force attacks.”

He said with apparent understanding, “You didn’t use this treasure earlier because you were worried it wouldn’t be enough to take me down either, right?”

Ren Dongshi, now just a disembodied soul, looked as if he’d been struck by lightning. After a brief pause, he asked in confusion, “Su Yi, are you... really not at all concerned about Pu Xuan’s life and death?”

Su Yi didn’t answer. Instead, he asked, “Tell me, do you think a Heavenly Sovereign could save Pu Xuan?”

Ren Dongshi gnashed his teeth and said slowly and clearly, “You’re dreaming! Only I can remove the poisonous worm from his body! No one else can do it, no matter who they are!”

Against all expectations, Su Yi smiled. “Now that you’ve said that, I can finally relax.”

Ren Dongshi was stunned. “What do you mean by that?”

“In the face of death, the stronger an enemy’s insistence, the weaker his confidence. You see this as your last hope, which is why you keep repeating yourself,” said Su Yi. He paused, then laughed. “That you’re so insistent that others cannot save him only proves that they can. Of course, out of consideration for Pu Xuan’s wellbeing, I won’t kill you yet just to be safe.”

With that, he sealed Ren Dongshi’s soul and stuffed him into his sleeves.

Ren Dongshi was strong, every bit as strong as Wang Chu, if not stronger. That was especially true since he carried multiple Heavenly Sovereign-level treasures on his person.

If he’d gone all out right from the start and risked it all in battle, it wouldn’t have been easy for Su Yi to capture him. He might have even had to employ some of his hidden cards to counter Ren Dongshi’s hidden weapons.

Unfortunately, Ren Dongshi was too clever for his own good. He thought he could exploit Su Yi’s principles to seize a chance at life, only for Su Yi to give him a taste of his own medicine and capture him alive.

Su Yi didn’t even need to think to know that Ren Dongshi was overcome with frustration.

Without any further thought, Su Yi returned to the battlefield.

“Master.” Pu Xuan immediately went up to greet him, his heart full of excitement. The rims of his eyes reddened. “Your disciple was useless. I embarrassed you with my ineptitude.”

Lian Luo hurriedly approached, then bowed solemnly. “Thank you for saving my life, Your Excellency Su!”

Both of them looked utterly wretched. One had lost his body, and even his soul was badly injured, while the other was a mess of pulped flesh and broken bones.

Su Yi’s heart ached at the sight of them. If he hadn’t rushed over as soon as he got Pu Xuan’s message, there was no way they would have escaped today.

The thought filled Su Yi’s heart with irrepressible murderous intent.

Killing those Heavenly Monarchs hadn't been enough to sate his hatred!
