Chapter 2830 - Beating a Child on a Rainy Day
Chapter 2830 – Beating a Child on a Rainy Day
The Sword-Bearer was dead!
Startled cries arose throughout the city.
The skies were stained red with blood.
The little girl stood beneath the dome of heaven, clutching her blood-red spear. The countless black flowers hovering around her exuded billowing tides of sin power.
Everyone gazed at her in astonishment.
Old Yao Kun Peng, Granny Snake, Bi Yunzi, Fu Yong, and the others felt chills course through their heart as they realized that this didn’t bode well. Only they knew it, but without the Sword-Bearer and his control over the city, any advantage they had would instantly go up in smoke!
Boom!
“Retreat! Hurry up and retreat!”
Startled shrieks rose and fell. Countless people shattered their Nine Luminaries Medallions and vanished without a trace.
Their Dao Protectors, meanwhile, fled the city with all their might, doing their utmost to avoid this incomparably perilous, inauspicious ground.
“Retreat!” Heavenly Monarch Jin Xun of Eternal Lightning Court led Xia Rouyun and the others away.
“Elder, the battle isn’t over yet. Why are we leaving?” said Xia Rouyun, unwilling to accept it. “And you still haven’t told me who Daoist Brother Li really is. Just what is his real identity?”
“I’ll tell you on the road!” Heavenly Monarch Jin Xun glowered. If we don’t leave now, it’ll be far harder to leave later!
Lian Yue, Dong Liujia, and the other unparalleled figures of the Five Great Continents all chose to retreat.
But even as they left, all of them were overcome with confusion. Is the true target of all this, Li Muchen, alive or dead? And who is he really?
Although they didn’t know it, Su Yi had long since re-entered the city, and he was quietly watching the chaos unfold.
His personal strength was in no way enough to end the conflict; the disparity was too great.
Fortunately, the situation had already turned in their favor, and the outcome was clear.
“Run!” Bi Yunzi roared, unleashed the divine ability he kept in reserve, and fought his way out of the Sin Souls’ encirclement.
But he’d only just broken free when a bloody spear descended from the heavens, piercing his skull and pinning him in place! This was, naturally, Innocence’s work.
She was ill at ease even after killing the Sword-Bearer. As if to make up for her mistakes, she whipped around to attack the remaining Heavenly Monarchs.
Boom!
A Golden-Winged Great Peng took to the skies, sending its nearby foes flying with a beat of its powerful wings. It fired a beam of golden light, tearing open a mystical spacetime portal in midair.
It shot through it, but before its body had fully vanished from view, blood-red chains manifested of the power of sin, trussed its lower body thoroughly. The Golden-Winged Great Peng roared in fury, then severed its own lower body. The rest of it vanished through the portal, which instantly vanished behind it. All that remained was its thoroughly bound lower body, which thudded onto the ground.
The little girl was obviously enraged. She gripped her spear and turned her attention toward the remaining Heavenly Monarchs.
How is this possible…? Where is the founder? Why hasn’t he attacked? Don’t tell me something happened to him? Fu Yong’s heart sank. He was overcome with unease.
The founder of the Heart-Tempering Sword House had personally arranged this death trap, and their founder had even come here to oversee things under the guise of “Shang Wuhui.” Who could have imagined that something would nonetheless go wrong with the trap they’d prepared so meticulously?
Even the Sword-Bearer had died!
Worst of all, their founder had yet to attack, and Fu Yong had no idea where he was or what had happened to him.
No, this won’t do. I have to retreat immediately! Fu Yong took a deep breath and was just about to run when a little girl appeared out of nowhere.
It was the last thing Fu Yong ever saw. Because the moment the little girl appeared, a blood-red spear pierced his chest.
Splurt!
She extracted the spear, then dashed off to kill other enemies.
Fu Yong’s corpse fell apart, destroyed in both body and soul.
Strangest of all, his powers of the Grand Dao, his blood, his qi, and his life force vanished as if devoured. Only the remnants of his physical body scattered into ash.
This was the power of the Laws of Rahu: the power to destroy, manipulate sin, and devour life force and the power of all other daos!
But the little girl was even more unusual. She was indeed born of the Laws of Rahu, but a spirit of the source of all evil had come here from the Void, and it now wore her body like a shell. That was why the Sword-Bearer, the spirit of the Laws of Ketu, underestimated her so badly.
Now that she’d rejoined the battle, she swept through the fierce, chaotic struggle with overwhelming force. Soon, she had routed the remaining Heavenly Monarchs. Their will to fight collapsed, and the survivors fled for their lives.
Only about a dozen managed to escape. The others died in battle.
The Ancient Nine Luminaries City was permeated with the stench of blood. Crimson mist hung in the air, and the ground was covered in the vestiges of battle.
Su Yi stood and watched the entire battle. Cen Xinghe stood beside him, effectively taking on the role of Dao Protector in case some fool decided to come here and throw his life away.
Mo Lanhe and Fu Lingyun stood there too. Both watched in a dazed silence.
Everything they’d experienced today was just too unbelievable and too astonishing. Even now, they’d yet to calm down.
The battle had ended. Only about thirty of the Sin Souls remained; their casualties weren’t at all light.
The little girl dashed over from afar, head lowered, and said excitedly, “I’m glad you’re alright, Master!”
This pitiful little girl dressed in rags and the fierce warrior who’d devastated her opponents in battle were like completely different people.
Su Yi beckoned to her. “Come here.”
The girl hesitated, but ultimately did as she was told.
Whap!
Su Yi smacked her out of nowhere, making her stagger backward. She almost fell over.
The depths of the girl’s eyes blazed with murderous intent, but it quickly vanished. She just clutched her cheek, lowered her head, and stood there, eyes wet with tears.
The remaining Sin Souls gasped, their hearts quivering. What’s going on?
Cen Xinghe was stunned, too. What’s Grandfather doing?
Su Yi sent the girl flying with a kick.
Bang!
Innocence prostrated herself on the ground and said in a quavering voice, “Master, did I do something wrong?”
This time, Su Yi seemed to have gotten enough. He took a sip of wine and said, “I’m just bored, and you know what they say: on a rainy day with nothing better to do, you might as well beat your kid.”
No one knew what to say to that.
Innocence said bitterly, “Master, I know what I did wrong. I shouldn’t have held back in my battle with Ketu.”
“So, you were holding back!” exclaimed Su Yi.
The girl said softly, “I didn’t just hold back. I was even hoping for an opportunity. When the Malevolent Sword Venerate attacked, I wanted to see whether or not you were capable of handling the danger. That’s why I didn’t immediately rush to your aid.”
She no longer seemed like the ruler of all evils. There was no sign of the pride or ferocity like a whirlwind of slaughter she’d displayed earlier, either. All that remained was awe, terror, and humility. Like a child with a guilty conscience.
Only now did Cen Xinghe understand why Su Yi had hit her seemingly out of nowhere.
“Your heart is full of malevolence. It’s only natural that you’d act with wicked intentions,” said Su Yi. “I understand that, but that doesn’t mean I accept it. Consider this a lesson, but don’t let it happen again. Get up.”
Only then did the girl crawl to her feet, lower her head, and say through tears of gratitude, “Thank you, Master!”
A slap and a kick were nowhere near enough to harm her. On the contrary, she was astonished to have gotten off so lightly; she’d been prepared for a far more severe punishment.
This punishment was so light that she actually didn’t quite know how to respond. It was an indescribable feeling. Doesn’t he know that the faster he is to forgive me, the less I’ll fear him?
But then, a sentence rose unbidden to her mind. “No matter the sins and wickedness you encounter in your path, you must act with innocence.”
She then recalled the strange phenomena that appeared in her heart the first time she saw Su Yi, like a beam of light illuminating a world of endless slaughter and malevolence. It pierced through the carnage, lighting up the darkness and dispelling the power of sin.
She’d tried to extend her hand and grab it.
Would she be freer if the light vanished? Perhaps. But then, she’d have only slaughter, sin, and carnage for companionship for the rest of her days, right? She’d never know peace.
Her heart was full of uncertainty.
Su Yi had no idea what she was thinking. It was just as his first incarnation’s heart devil had said; Su Yi saw her as a whetstone with which to temper his heart. But he wouldn’t let her hurt him lightly.
“Master, Ketu is dead, but the Laws of Ketu remain. I can sense them. Their power is located in the Forgotten Palace,” the little girl said suddenly. “Master them, and you’ll have assembled the full Laws of the Nine Luminaries.”
Su Yi could tell that she was trying to curry favor with him in a bid to make amends.
He pondered briefly, then said, “Work with Cen Xinghe to scour the battlefield for trophies.”
“Alright!” The girl agreed. Inwardly, she couldn’t help but find this confusing. Why would someone of his status be concerned with such meager spoils?
It was truly strange.
Cen Xinghe wanted to refuse; he really didn’t want anything to do with the ruler of all evils. He was terrified she’d seize him out of nowhere and refine him, too.
But in the end, he steeled himself and agreed. I’m working on my grandfather’s behalf. What do I have to be afraid of?
The girl beckoned to the remaining Sin Souls, and they soon got to work.
Meanwhile, Su Yi led Mo Lanhe and Fu Lingyun to the Forgotten Palace.
Along the way, Su Yi pondered. The Malevolent Sword Venerate isn’t dead, so where has he gone? If he still has cards left, how could he possibly have just given up on killing me?
No matter how much I look down on him, there’s no denying that he’s quite capable! On the surface, this death trap was just an alliance between him and the Heavenly Monarchs of three Heavenly Sovereign factions. In truth, he never entrusted them with this mission in the first place. The true crux of his scheme lay in the Sword-Bearer, in the Endless Expanse Hidden Realm, and those three Heavenly Sovereigns’ avatars of will!
He even went so far as to prepare a way out, the Golden Cicada Substitution Talisman. With it, he escaped disaster! There are no depths to which he won’t sink, and there’s nothing he won’t put to use. He’s got countless cards up his sleeve. Opponents like him have always been the most troublesome—and the most loathsome.
Su Yi had a strong premonition that the danger had not yet passed. There was no way that the Malevolent Sword Venerate would give up so easily!
