Chapter 2805 – There’s No Need to Yield in the Competition for the Grand Dao
Mu Qu’s expression was unsightly. Inwardly, he felt suffocated.
Xue Chuang, who was still pinned firmly beneath Su Yi’s feet, couldn’t help but shout, “What are you hesitating for!? Hurry up and agree! It’s just a few external treasures. What do they matter compared to my life?”
Mu Qu’s face stiffened, but in the end, he agreed. Before long, he and Xue Chuang had both obediently offered Su Yi every treasure they had on them.
Once he’d been released, Xue Chuang wiped the blood from his face and sighed. “That’s much better!”
The crowd didn’t know what to say.
Mu Qu, however, felt deeply ashamed. You took such a brutal beating, and you almost died in the process. How can you call that ‘better’?
Su Yi looked at him in surprise. “You don’t hate me?”
“I feel hatred, yes,” said Xue Chuang. “But what I hate is my own weakness! Taking a beating isn’t a bad thing. It’s a chance to temper my heart and realize the gap between us, and that’s a precious thing indeed.”
Many of the onlookers were flabbergasted. Did he get beaten into a masochist?
“My clan ancestor always says that I need a good beating. To me, suffering is a blessing. He said that so long as I survive, no matter how badly I lose, I’ll enjoy good fortune in equal measure. Now, it seems he was right on the mark,” Xue Chuang said with emotion.
Whap!
He suddenly took a sharp blow to the face. He staggered backward, the bones now visible through the flesh of his already pulped face. He was so wretched that it hurt to even look at him.
The crowd was stunned. It isn’t over yet?
Xue Chuang glared at Su Yi in bewilderment. “Are you going back on your word?”
“You said that suffering is a blessing, so I’ll just have to bless you some more,” said Su Yi. “Honestly, seems to me that I’m a real do-gooder.”
Xue Chuang was stunned, but when he saw that Su Yi raised his hand as if to slap him again, he shuddered and laughed bitterly. “It’s true that suffering is a blessing, but I’m no masochist. Please, show mercy, Fellow Daoist!”
Whap!
Another slap sent Xue Chuang flying backward.
The crowd’s hearts jumped just watching it.
“Enough!” shouted Mu Qu. “Or do you really think I wouldn’t dare to kill anyone?”
As a Dao Protector, he was already prepared never to return. He naturally dared to risk his life!
Su Yi said calmly, “What? You’re a servant, yet you want to prevent your master from enjoying his ‘blessings’?”
Xue Chuang immediately intervened to stop Mu Qu. “It’s not like I’m dead or anything. What are you harping on about?”
Mu Qu’s expression was unsightly. “Young Master, look at yourself! Even if you aren’t ashamed, consider the Blue Deer Daoist Sect’s reputation!”
Xue Chuang sighed. “Our reputation? That’s nothing but dog farts! If I really cared about that, I’d have said something along the lines of, ‘I’ll return to avenge this grudge another day!’ before shattering my Nine Luminaries Talisman and escaping.”
He looked at Su Yi, then grimaced. “Fellow Daoist, I cannot bear too many of your ‘blessings’ at once. If you’re satisfied, might we end this here? I can help you find other opponents!”
He scanned the crowd. “Why not share your blessings with the eager onlookers, too?”
Many of the spectators looked stricken. Inwardly, they cursed Xue Chuang out. That mad dog has started biting people at random!
Su Yi took a deep, hard look at Xue Chuang. “To tell the truth, I’m starting to regret not just killing you.”
Xue Chuang’s pupils constricted, but then, he said expressionlessly, “Fellow Daoist, I’ve taken my beatings and offered you my treasures. Any more of those ‘jokes,’ and I’ll really want to just give up and die.”
Su Yi pointed into the distance. “Scram!”
Xue Chuang reacted as if he’d received an imperial pardon. He and his Dao Protector, Mu Qu, turned and left without hesitation.
Uproarious, disdainful laughter ensued.
Su Yi, however, frowned and committed Xue Chuang to memory. Shameless types like him often had no bottom line. They were often the most dangerous of all! But if you could maintain pressure on them, they’d be as obedient as could be. They wouldn’t dare to so much as growl.
This little interlude passed quickly, and Su Yi and his companions continued toward the Starry Stele. Unlike before, numerous people followed them!
Su Yi had defeated Xue Chuang in a terrifying display of power. In doing so, he’d given the onlookers an all-new understanding of this Unfettered Realm sword cultivator of the Literati Continent. When they saw him approach the Starry Stele, they had a strong premonition that he wasn’t here as a tourist, but rather, to seize one of the Divine Contemplation Lotus Platforms!
Who wouldn’t have paid attention?
All nine of the platforms had long since been claimed by an unparalleled figure. Even Xue Chuang, who was thirty-eighth in the Unfettered Ranking, was unable to claim a spot. It was thus immediately obvious how fierce the competition was.
Could Li Muchen represent the Literati Continent in claiming a Divine Contemplation Lotus Platform?
Everyone watched with great interest.
Before long, Su Yi and his companions reached the Starry Stele. It towered into the clouds. A river of stars poured down like a waterfall, and chaos mist rose into the air, so its surface came in and out of view. It was indistinct, but they could hear faint rumbling emanating from within the stele. The nine Divine Contemplation Lotus Platforms glowed with misty Dao Light, enveloping the nine figures seated atop them and making them look utterly transcendent.
The surrounding area was already packed with onlookers, practically all of whom were cultivators from the Five Great Continents. They were divided into different camps based on their sect of origin.
When Su Yi arrived, he saw a familiar figure—the Princess of the Moon Palace, Lian Yue of the Court of the Southern Heavens!
She was seated cross-legged, her graceful frame bathed in clear radiance as she contemplated the Grand Dao.
When Su Yi looked over, she seemed to sense his gaze. Her bright eyes silently opened.
She froze, stunned. It’s him!
She had an altogether different impression of Li Muchen, because she’d examined his heart with her Luminous Insight, only to discover that it was full of endless light, and blazingly intense as the midday sun! That aside, he possessed the Toad Palace Pearl, something uniquely, wondrously useful to her in her pursuit of the Grand Dao.
“He defeated Xue Chuang in a single attack?”
“Li Muchen is seriously that strong?”
“When did someone so unparalleled appear in the Literati Continent?”
“Logically speaking, Divine Reverence Pavilion should have taken note of someone like him a long time ago. He should have a spot in the Unfettered Rankings, and a high one at that.”
“Let’s see if he really dares to fight for a Divine Contemplation Lotus Platform, and whether or not he manages to succeed. Perhaps then we’ll know just how powerful he really is.”
The crowd discussed Li Muchen, and Lian Yue heard every word. She couldn’t help but be surprised. Li Muchen actually defeated Xue Chuang in a single hit?
At the same time, practically all eyes were on Su Yi.
The competition for the Divine Contemplation Lotus Platforms had ended a while ago. There was no suspense left. The nine powerhouses who’d managed to claim spots were all unshakable, unparalleled monsters. Thus, despite the large number of people present, no one dared to attempt a challenge.
But Su Yi’s arrival completely changed the atmosphere.
“Do you want to challenge someone, Li Muchen?” someone asked suddenly. “I’ll be frank with you: if you do, someone is highly likely to bear a grudge.”
The speaker was an old man in black. He gazed coolly at Su Yi. “The young people now seated atop the Divine Contemplation Platforms are in the process of contemplating the Grand Dao. No matter which of them you challenge, you’ll interrupt all of them in their cultivation. That will likely lead to disaster. The consequences of that will be far more dire than what you’ll face for defeating Xue Chuang.”
The crowd fell silent. Everyone recognized the old man as a Dao Protector from Eternal Lightning Court. His title was Jin Xun, and he was an older-generation Heavenly Monarch known throughout the Five Great Continents. His true body was special and unique, too. He was a lightning spirit born of a chaos lightning source!
Eternal Lightning Court was one of the four Heavenly Sovereign factions participating in this excursion into the Nine Luminaries Forbidden Zone. However, their experts were the fewest in number. Including their Dao Protectors, they numbered just over ten people.
However, no one would dare to look down on them. Despite their small numbers, their disciples had claimed two of the nine Divine Contemplation Lotus Platforms!
When Heavenly Monarch Jin Xun spoke, everyone felt intense pressure bearing down on them. This was obviously a warning. He was telling Li Muchen not to cause trouble, and better yet, not to come any closer.
But before Su Yi could respond, a dark-robed, white-haired man in a tall, brimless hat approached with a smile. “You’re worrying over nothing, Daoist Brother Jin Xun. I’m just worried that he’ll never even get the chance to issue a challenge!”
The Dao Protectors were watching over the lotus platforms, accompanied by numerous Unfettered Realm disciples of their respective sects. Their goal was simple. They were watching over the experts cultivating on the lotus platforms and ensuring that no one disturbed them. That meant that no matter which of the experts on the Divine Contemplation Lotus Platforms Su Yi chose to challenge, he’d have to get through their Dao Protectors and sectmates first!
Su Yi naturally had already realized this.
“Young man, there’s no spot here for you to compete for. Leave now while you still can. Don’t bring misfortune upon yourself!” said the old man in dark robes. He glanced at Su Yi briefly, then looked away.
The crowd’s expressions shifted. No one spoke, but all of them looked at Su Yi. The atmosphere was heavy.
“Which faction are you from?” Su Yi looked at Heavenly Monarch Jin Xun and addressed him first.
The crowd was stunned. He doesn’t even recognize Heavenly Monarch Jin Xun?
“I am Jin Xun of Eternal Lightning Court,” Jin Xun said calmly. He didn’t care in the slightest whether a junior of the Literati Continent recognized him or not.
Su Yi nodded, then looked at the white-haired man in dark robes. “And what about you?”
The white-haired, dark-robed man frowned. This kid sure is arrogant. He isn’t even willing to address me as his senior!
But in the end, he just said calmly, “I am Yu Wenche of Sevendeaths Court. What, don’t tell me you really want to try us?”
Su Yi said casually, “I might as well, right?”
Boom!
The crowd stirred. Everyone’s spirits rose. Li Muchen sure is ferocious. He only just got here, but he’s already provoking Sevendeaths Court!
“Might I trouble you to tell me which of the Divine Contemplation Lotus Platforms have been occupied by members of Sevendeaths Court?” said Su Yi. He took out a jug of wine and had a sip. “It’ll prevent me from hurting anyone else by mistake.”
Yu Wenche furrowed his brow. It seemed to him that he’d been plenty polite already. Who’d have thought that this junior of the Literati Continent would refuse to recognize his kindness? Worse, he’d taken an inch and demanded a mile!
Now, even the other Dao Protectors and Unfettered Realm disciples of Sevendeaths Court were glowering at Su Yi.
But then, a voice rang out, as pleasing to the ears as the music of the heavens. “Fellow Daoist, if you want a Divine Contemplation Lotus Platform, I can give you mine.”
Lian Yue rose from her lotus platform, her robes swaying around her. A rain of light scattered, making her look transcendent and ethereal.
The crowd was stunned, then flabbergasted.
Who could have anticipated that Lian Yue would volunteer her own lotus platform?
It was entirely unexpected.
The other cultivators of the Court of the Southern Heavens exchanged glances. They, too, were completely caught off guard. What’s going on?
But Su Yi didn’t even stop to think. “This is a competition of the Grand Dao. How could you simply back down? I’ll claim a Divine Contemplation Lotus Platform myself; I appreciate your good intentions, but there’s no need for you to offer yours.”
The entire area fell silent. Everyone was increasingly bewildered.
