Chapter 2795 - Luminous Insight, a Heart as Radiant as the Sun
Chapter 2795 – Luminous Insight, a Heart as Radiant as the Sun
Su Yi quietly gave Fu Lingyun a big thumbs up. He couldn’t help but see her in a new light. I wouldn’t have guessed that scatterbrain of a girl had such a sharp tongue.
Fu Lingyun blinked and smiled sweetly.
Lian Yue saw it all but said nothing. Even though she stood directly before the others, she was like the radiant moon shining overhead, distant and unattainable.
She was too cold and aloof. From beginning to end, she showed no sign of emotion, so it was impossible to tell what she was really thinking.
In the end, she seemed to reach a decision. She looked at Su Yi, then said, “I’ll just have to find an opportunity to make you an offer you cannot refuse.”
She clearly wasn’t willing to just give up, but she also didn’t plan to use force.
The crowd sighed in relief.
At the same time, they couldn’t help but be curious. Just what kind of treasure does Li Muchen have, for Lian Yue to be so intent on acquiring it?
Lian Yue left, clothing fluttering around her as she shot into the distance like a beam of moonlight.
“I’ve got to say, it’s hard not to admire her,” said Wen Xiuran. “After all, she didn’t try to abuse her position, nor did she resort to threats.”
The others nodded their agreement.
In the world of cultivation, the strong ate the weak. Power came above all else. The loftier someone’s status, the less they cared about the feelings of their social inferiors.
This was especially true of the disciples of Heavenly Sovereign factions. No matter how good their personalities were, they thought themselves superior to others and acted without reservation. The only people they saw as their equals were others of similar status. Everyone else was disregarded completely.
The Heavenly Monarchs of the Literati Continent were all experts of the fifth realm of Eternity, but even they had to respectfully avert their gazes in front of the scions of Heavenly Sovereign factions.
In truth, what Eternals sought was freedom; the rigid structures of the mundane world could in no way restrain them.
The cruel reality was thus that the stronger someone was, the more they disregarded the rules!
Thus, Lian Yue’s behavior was unusual for an unparalleled cultivator of the Court of the Southern Heavens.
“If you were Lian Yue and there was a treasure you wanted that badly, would you have refrained from abusing your position?” Yun Qiaojun asked suddenly.
The others exchanged glances. Some dismissed the question, others sank into thought, while still others smiled and shook their heads.
Only Liu Tianchen responded. “It might be shameful to admit this out loud, but if Lian Yue wanted something of mine, even if I valued it as much as my own life, I’d give it to her without hesitation. I wouldn’t dare to haggle, either.
“It’s not because I’m spineless, nor is it because I respect her. It’s because I have other considerations. I’d worry that if I refused, I’d offend her, and by extension, the Court of the Southern Heavens. That might in turn invite trouble for my sect, family, and friends.” Liu Tianchen sighed. “Maybe someone of her character wouldn’t do that, but what if she did?
“Even if she didn’t, what if the Court of the Southern Heavens learned that a small fry like me, a mere Unfettered Realm cultivator of the Literati Continent, refused Lian Yue the treasure she had her heart set on? What would they do then?” Liu Tianchen shook his head. “I wouldn’t dare to risk it. Thus, after weighing the advantages and disadvantages, I’d obediently give her my treasure.”
Many of the others’ hearts filled with sympathy. Liu Tianchen had described the situation accurately.
Even if Lian Yue didn’t pursue the insult, her sect might. What would happen then?
None of them would dare to disregard the worst-case scenario.
As they thought this, the way they looked at Su Yi silently shifted. He dared to refuse Lian Yue right to her face. Don’t tell me he hasn’t considered the possible consequences?
Only Liu Tianchen and his Dao Protector, Wei Yun, knew that Li Muchen likely knew the consequences; he just didn’t care. This was, after all, the one who’d dared kill Xue Sheng.
Liu Tianchen suddenly felt as if a wall stood between them and Li Muchen. The way they thought and acted was starkly different. As if they lived in two different worlds!
Before long, the group resumed its journey, but the atmosphere was slightly stifled. Liu Tianchen noticed that Xiao Chi and Wen Xiuran were, seemingly inadvertently, distancing themselves from Li Muchen.
Even their Dao Protectors no longer engaged in conversation with Mo Lanhe.
Yun Qiaojun didn’t say anything, but Liu Tianchen could tell that his senior apprentice brother had weighed the pros and cons and decided to distance himself, too.
Liu Tianchen sighed to himself. This was Lian Yue’s influence. Li Muchen’s decision to refuse her might have seemed bold, but the others were worried that he’d implicate them, so they were quietly distancing themselves.
The subtle shifting of their relationship was revealed in the smallest of gestures.
Liu Tianchen’s heart felt tied up in knots. He recalled what Yun Qiaojun had said earlier; there were no truly good or bad people in this world. It was all a matter of perspective.
Liu Tianchen was pondering how to treat Li Muchen going forward.
Su Yi naturally noticed the same shift that Liu Tianchen did, but he wasn’t offended. He thought nothing of it. After all, he was just travelling with them, and there was no real bond between them. Why concern himself with the shift in their attitude?
There was no need.
Su Yi was really concerned with something else entirely.
Lian Yue had somehow managed to sense the Toad Palace Pearl!
The Toad Palace is another name for the Moon Palace. After refining the Supreme Yin Soul Essence in the Eternal Lunar Palace, Lian Yue gained the title ‘Princess of the Moon Palace.’ Her Dao must involve the moon!
I suspect that that’s why she could sense the Toad Palace Pearl.
But if that’s the case, it’s rather troublesome.
If she’s really dead set on acquiring it, the pearl must hide other secrets. It would likely be inestimably beneficial toward boosting Lian Yue’s powers of the Grand Dao.
That means she’s sure to come looking for me again sooner or later.
But then, Su Yi wasn’t worried. He’d killed even Xue Sheng; how could he possibly concern himself with Lian Yue?
……
“Young Mistress, are you sure you don’t need me to make a personal appearance?”
On their way to the Ancient Nine Luminaries City, a tiny, thin old woman appeared silently beside Lian Yue.
The old woman was hale and hearty, with hair as white as snow. She rode on a purple cloud, her hands hidden in her sleeves and a kindly smile on her face.
She was Lian Yue’s Dao Protector, an expert of the Court of the Southern Heavens. Her true body was an ancient variant species, a Four-Winged Snake. Heavenly Sovereign Changhen had brought her to the Court of the Southern Heavens a long time ago.
She had no status or position within the sect. Instead, she watched over one of its forbidden grounds. Generations of the sect’s disciples had called her “Granny Snake.”
She wasn’t at all famous outside the sect, either, because it had been a long, long time since she’d last left.
Yet now, she’d become Lian Yue’s Dao Protector. From this, it was obvious how highly the Court of the Southern Heavens valued Lian Yue.
“No need for that.” Lian Yue shook her head. “I dislike abusing my position.”
Granny Snake smiled benevolently. “This old woman naturally understands your character. There are lines you do not cross, and your heart is as pure and bright as the full moon. Few of our sectmates can match your comportment.”
She spoke with admiration and doting.
Lian Yue was only in the Unfettered Realm, but even in the Court of the Southern Heavens, she was like a crane among chickens. She stood out of the crowd.
Her seniors completely agreed with Divine Reverence Pavilion’s assessment of her. She was sure to shine like the moon, her radiance illuminating the southern heavens!
“But I wouldn’t have guessed that a kid from the Literati Continent had somehow acquired the long-lost Toad Palace Pearl, a treasure that vanished during the Devastation,” sighed Granny Snake. “This is your first time in the Nine Luminaries Forbidden Zone, yet you happened upon the Toad Palace Pearl. Could this be an act of fate?”
The Toad Palace Pearl!
This was a supreme treasure, one that even Heavenly Sovereigns would value highly!
It hid enormous secrets. They said it was connected to an Eternal Throne destroyed during the Devastation.
More importantly, it was closely connected to Lian Yue’s powers of the Grand Dao. If she acquired it, she could strengthen her foundations, letting her master a path straight to the highest heights of the Laws of Destiny!
The Court of the Southern Heavens had been searching for the pearl for a long, long time, yet they’d found no word of it.
Who’d have thought they’d run into it in the Literati Continent’s Nine Luminaries Forbidden Zone?
Granny Snake couldn’t help but sigh. Indeed, sometimes, the treasure really is in the last place you’d think to look. Fate is too wondrous for words!
But then, Lian Yue said suddenly, “Granny, don’t try anything reckless. Li Muchen is obviously blessed by fortune. There must be a reason that the Toad Palace Pearl wound up in his hands.”
She paused, then added, “Also, I can tell that Li Muchen is hiding his full strength. There’s something strange about his presence.”
Lian Yue’s heart was like the full moon shining down on the ocean. It illuminated details others couldn’t detect.
This was her unique talent.
Especially since she had used that Supreme Yin Soul Essence as her foundation when she stepped into Eternity. Her Dao Heart had given rise to a new divine ability she called “Luminous Insight!”
This sort of divine ability was extremely rare. Aside from her, Heavenly Sovereign Changhen was the only member of the Court of the Southern Heavens to possess one.
After learning about Lian Yue’s Luminous Insight, Heavenly Sovereign Changhen exclaimed, “A divine ability like that is enough to put Heavenly Monarchs to shame!”
Afterward, he instructed her to keep it secret no matter what, as divulging its existence would invite disaster.
The Court of the Southern Heavens was a Heavenly Sovereign faction, but it still had enemies. If those enemies learned of Lian Yue’s Luminous Insight, they’d do everything in their power to snuff this rare genius out before she could grow stronger!
This was no exaggeration. When hostile factions fought, they often resorted to such dirty, despicable, brutal means!
Earlier, Lian Yue used Luminous Insight to sense that something was strange about “Li Muchen.”
When she tried to examine Su Yi’s Dao Heart, all she saw was endless light!
As if a sun blazed in his heart, illuminating the ages. Its radiance was intense beyond measure!
It was an unbelievable, strange phenomenon. Even Lian Yue found it hard to calm down after seeing it.
