Chapter 2779 – The Founder Shows HImself
The sect leader and several higher-ups had gathered within the Ancestral Hall.
Mountain Lord Mo Lanhe and Patriarch Du Ya were there, too, as were Wang Yuan and the other blessed children of fortune chosen as new legacy disciples.
However, the atmosphere was deathly silent. All eyes were on their uninvited guest.
Li Muchen!
Patriarch Du Ya’s brow furrowed, while Mo Lanhe watched inquisitively. You didn’t lose in terms of strength, but rather, in your grasp of worldly affairs.
But it seems you’re unconvinced.
Wang Yuan smiled, his gaze pitying. The outcome is already clear. Demanding an explanation now will do you no good, and worse, you’ll offend everyone here.
You really are brainless!
“Why are you here, Li Muchen?” asked the sect leader, Shi Huiyan, with a dignified expression.
“This disciple has accumulated merit over the past two years,” said Su Yi. “If my math is right, it’s enough to buy me a spot in the Nine Luminaries Dao Assembly. Thus, I came here to request that the sect leader grant my request.”
Everyone was stunned. So, he wasn’t here to decry an injustice, but rather, to find an alternate path to achieve his goal!
Founder Shi Huiyan’s gaze was complicated. He said gently, “Spots are limited, and it’s difficult to shift them around. Wait until next time. I promise there’ll be a spot for you then!”
As the leader of his sect, he knew everything that went on, including the whole business with Li Muchen.
There was no denying it, either. Deep within his heart, Shi Huiyan rather admired this junior.
His talent was shocking, as was his combat prowess, and his name was at the top of every record in the trial grounds.
He’d even made it into the top three in today’s competition!
Shi Huiyan couldn’t help but admire him.
However, he had no way to give Li Muchen a spot in the Nine Luminaries Dao Assembly.
The Blueleaf Sword Sect didn’t want for dazzling Unfettered Realm disciples. It lacked powerful factions to ally with!
Fortunately, Wang Yuan’s clan was just the kind of ally they needed!
Compared to establishing an alliance with a faction of their caliber, an Unfettered Realm junior meant nothing, no matter how talented he was.
Thus, no matter how much Shi Huiyan admired Li Muchen, he had to put the well-being of the sect first.
Su Yi looked stunned. “Merit won’t work either?”
Many of the old monsters couldn’t help but laugh. Merit? Is something like that really important?
Whether that matters or not is entirely up to us, right?
If we say you’re in, you’re in, like it or not.
If we say you aren’t, you aren’t, no matter what!
How could this kid say something so brainless and juvenile? It’s no wonder everyone says he’s a blockhead incapable of reading the room!
Mo Lanhe’s gaze was cold. “Li Muchen, hurry up and leave. Don’t covet things that aren’t meant for you. You’ve proven your strength, and you’ll reap endless benefits in the days to come, but if you keep pestering us, you’ll destroy any positive feelings we once had for you!”
This wasn’t exactly an insult. On the contrary, it was earnest advice from a senior.
He was basically saying, “All of us are watching you. Do well, and you won’t go unrewarded, but if you keep refusing to see sense, you’ll only irritate us!”
Of course, he wasn’t being particularly polite, either, nor did his words suggest that he favored Su Yi. On the contrary, this was a warning.
Su Yi just stood there, moving only to take out a jug of wine and have a seat. He laughed. “It seems I thought too highly of the Blueleaf Sword Sect.”
Whap!
Patriarch Du Ya smacked his armrests, rose to his feet, and shouted, “Li Muchen, what do you mean? Do you think we’ve mistreated you? If you aren’t convinced, get the hell out of here immediately. We have plenty of Unfettered Realm Dao Lords. No one will miss you!”
His words were harsh. He was effectively kicking Su Yi out of the sect.
Sect Leader Shi Huiyan frowned and sighed. “Li Muchen, you shouldn’t be wilful. You’ve only just joined the sect. Why are you in such a rush?”
The other old monsters nodded along. It’s true. You’re a newcomer. Why refuse to do what’s best for you?
Wang Yuan smiled. “If you lose your status as a disciple of Blueleaf Sword Sect, I dare say with certainty that your inability to read people will get you killed before you know what hit you!”
His tone softened as he pretended to give earnest advice. “So I urge you to calm down and accept reality. Go back and reflect on your behavior. When you see sense, you’ll realize that we’re doing this for your own good!”
Su Yi ignored him, gazed at the sect leader, and said, “In that case, I’m willing to spend all of my accrued merit in exchange for permission to leave the sect. Please accept my request, Sect Leader!”
The group was stunned. None of them could have imagined that a junior would go to such lengths!
“You’re threatening to leave the sect? You sure are bold, kid!” Patriarch Du Ya bristled with anger.
The other old monsters were uncomfortable, too. This kid isn’t just stubborn. He refuses to see sense!
Mo Lanhe said expressionlessly, “Your threats are ludicrous. Do you really think you’ll get a spot like this? Juvenile!”
But Su Yi remained calm, his gaze focused on the sect leader.
Shi Huiyan’s expression darkened. “Li Muchen, have you really thought this through?”
Su Yi nodded.
Shi Huiyan completely lost his patience. “Very well. Leave! From this day forth, you are no longer part of the Blueleaf Sword Sect!”
Su Yi turned and left.
The group gathered in the hall watched him fade away, then burst into cold laughter.
The sect would carry on, no matter who left. It wasn’t like Blueleaf Sword Sect would fall apart after losing a single Unfettered Realm cultivator.
Li Muchen was a fool who didn’t know the ways of the world. His fundamental error was thinking too highly of himself!
That very day, the word that Li Muchen had left the sect spread, provoking a considerable uproar.
But only that and nothing more. Some of his former sectmates pitied him, but it ultimately didn’t affect them, and they didn’t really care.
Most of them saw Li Muchen as a joke.
When Elder Yun Husheng heard the news, he couldn’t help but find it a bit of a pity. He’d been waiting for Li Muchen to lower his head and apologize. Who’d have thought the fool would just up and leave instead?
Luo Xiao slapped himself in the face and swore that if he ever ran into someone so ignorant of human affairs, he’d keep his distance, the further, the better.
Over in the Hall of Missions, Tao Su drank in silence, inwardly despondent. Since when did the Blueleaf Sword Sect have no room for a sword cultivator too proud to lower his head?
‘Understanding human affairs?’ What a crock of shit!
And what good are those alliances they’re working so hard to build? When disaster really strikes, our alliance is sure to crumble!
What do those old fools know?
Sure, a single Unfettered Realm cultivator might not mean much to them, but if things go onto this, how will we train sword cultivators capable of shouldering heavy responsibilities?
Tao Su found it hard to take.
Suddenly, he recalled their founder, who’d left the sect on a long journey.
Had the founder been here, this never would have happened!
…
Meanwhile, on the Peak of Trials, in Heart Sword Tower.
This was a place the founder of the sect, Qi Jingzhen, had left for the sect’s Unfettered Realm cultivators. It was divided into nine stories.
A long time had passed since then, but not a single Unfettered Realm disciple had overcome the trials of the ninth floor.
So long had passed that the sect’s old monsters had practically forgotten something Qi Jingzhen had said a long time ago.
Whoever overcame the ninth floor of Heart Sword Tower would become his closed-door disciple!
And by extension, the future sect master of the Blueleaf Sword Sect!
A few days after Su Yi left Blueleaf Sword Sect, a portrait of Qi Jingzhen hung on the wall behind a desk on the ninth floor of Heart Sword Tower suddenly rippled, came to life, and left the scroll.
“Just as I thought! I sensed that something wonderful had happened. So, it was here!” Ji Qingzhen slapped his thigh, visibly overcome with delight.
He wore a tall hat, old-fashioned robes, and had a goatee. He was typically dignified and cold, but now, he was smiling so broadly he couldn’t keep his mouth shut.
Qi Jingzhen waved his sleeve. “Let’s see which extraordinary disciple managed to overcome the ninth floor of Heart Sword Tower!”
A curtain of light appeared, depicting a young man in blue. He overcame the trials of Heart Sword Tower with ease, starting with the first floor.
He made it smoothly to the ninth floor. Nothing could block his ascent, and nothing could stand in his way.
Qi Jingzhen’s eyes lit up. He was so excited that he danced for joy and murmured, “A blessing from the heavens! They’ve finally given me hope of revitalizing the sect and reclaiming our former glory!
“That kid is more than qualified to become my closed-door disciple, and he seems entirely capable of one day taking over as the leader of the sect!”
He watched the scenes reflected on the curtain of light over and over again. The more he watched, the more his heart filled with excitement.
Although no one knew it, Heart Sword Tower was a wondrous, ancient treasure. Anyone capable of overcoming its ninth floor was the type of unparalleled genius of the Dao of the Sword who might not appear even once in a million years!
This was the type of Qilin son that even Heavenly Sovereigns would scramble to recruit!
Qi Jingzhen had waited a long, long time, but no one like this had ever appeared. He would never have guessed that the person he’d been waiting for would show up while he was out exploring!
Of course, he was delighted!
Who is that boy? Where in the sect does he cultivate? What is his name?
Where did Shi Huiyan find such a genius? The name ‘Huiyan’ means ‘overflowing wisdom,’ and indeed, he really lives up to his name!
Qi Jingzhen’s true body was still out exploring. This was merely an avatar of will that he’d left in his portrait.
Dammit, it doesn’t matter. I’ve got to get back to the sect as quickly as possible to see this Qilin son for myself!
The sect’s revitalization hinged on this. As its founder, how could he possibly be negligent?
…
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Literati Continent.
Su Yi sat in a restaurant, drinking.
An impoverished-looking old man with long, disheveled hair and sallow skin sat across from him.
The old man engulfed his food and grinned. “The Blueleaf Sword Sect was blind and foolish, but my Light Beam Sword Pavilion isn’t!”
He pounded his chest. “A spot in the Nine Luminaries Dao Assembly, that’s all! We’ll give it to you!”
