Chapter 2762 - A Truly Good Child
Chapter 2762 – A Truly Good Child
Su Yi and Pu Xuan left the Mountain of Bitter Rains.
Su Yi planned to cultivate in the Huaihuang Empire for a while, first to treat his wounded soul, and second to borrow the Laws of the mundane world to temper his cultivation base.
In Su Yi’s eyes, the Laws of the Huaihuang Empire were the perfect whetstone. Resisting them was a rare opportunity to temper his cultivation base.
He’d leave once his cultivation base completely overcame the suppression of the Laws.
Word of the battle on the Mountain of Bitter Rains didn’t spread.
When Imperial Preceptor Lu Yuan, Shen Duqiu, and Yun Zhao’an woke up, they naturally had no idea what had happened.
Where had Xiao Zhixuan gone? When had the stele at the foot of the mountain cracked? And had someone claimed the good fortune of the Mountain of Bitter Rains?
They had no idea. All they knew was that they were lucky to be alive.
“We exchanged blows with an immortal. We lost, but we lost with honor. If word spreads, it might well become a popular tale.” Lu Yuan sighed. “It’s a pity that we never got to learn that immortal master’s name.”
Yun Zhao’an and Shen Duqiu were both moved.
Yun Zhao’an couldn’t help but ask, “How do you plan to report to the Black Cliff Sword Sect?”
After a moment’s silence, Imperial Preceptor Lu Yuan said, “The two immortals from True Martial Sword Court chose not to silence us. That suggests they weren’t at all afraid that word would leak. Let’s just tell Black Cliff Sword Sect the truth.”
That very day, both Lu Yuan and Yun Zhao’an sealed off all information about the Battle of Bitter Rains.
The problem was that one hundred thousand Tiger Warriors had been there to witness it, as well as three thousand elites of Divine Stratagems Manor. It ultimately wasn’t possible to keep the situation fully under wraps.
A few details spread through surreptitious rumors, from the courts to the Jianghu. Gradually, the people came to know of a wandering immortal clad in blue.
They said that not even one hundred thousand Tiger Warriors could block his path. The stories made him sound wondrously mysterious.
Others said that the four supreme experts of the Huaihuang Empire had joined forces against him, but they were still no match for the wandering immortal in blue.
Some said that the immortal in blue was a true otherworldly being who could summon lightning with a swing of his hand.
But no one knew who he was or what he was called.
……
“Strange. The good fortune of the Mountain of Bitter Rains was just about to enter the world. Why did everything quiet down again?”
The experts of the various cultivation factions outside were bewildered.
Before Su Yi suppressed Great Sorrow with a gesture, the cultivators outside sensed the disturbance and readied themselves for battle.
When he suppressed the sword, everyone waiting outside was flabbergasted.
They couldn’t figure out what was going on.
Many of the cultivators had secretly established connections with various factions and authorities of the Huaihuang Empire, like the imperial preceptor and Divine Stratagems Manor.
Thus, word of the battle at the Mountain of Bitter Rains quickly reached the cultivators waiting outside the empire.
It was then that the various factions learned that the unparalleled vicious sword had most likely been acquired by those two sword cultivators of True Martial Sword Court!
Sometimes, a single stone could create a thousand ripples.
Sword Monarch Mu Qing was stunned, but more than that, he couldn’t help but furrow his brow in concern.
Su Xuanjun and Pu Xuan had survived. That was cause for celebration.
But Mu Qing couldn’t bring himself to be happy.
So what if they’d acquired good fortune?
In the outside world, they were surrounded by ravening wolves on all sides. Carrying good fortune was a sin in its own right; it would inevitably make them the target of countless arrows!
“Martial Uncle, we’re in trouble!” transmitted Yu Guangjun.
The cultivators of the outside world had obviously mistaken Su Xuanjun and Pu Xuan for members of True Martial Sword Court. That meant that Yu Guangjun and Mu Qing were sure to be implicated!
Yang Lingxiao sighed to himself. Su Yi had captured him, but he’d thought he’d regain his freedom upon leaving the Blue Peak Continent.
But now, he dared not even entertain such notions. There was no guarantee he’d leave this place alive!
“Don’t worry. It’s a struggle for good fortune, that’s all, and they wouldn’t dare act wantonly. Do you really think True Martial Sword Court lacks the strength to justify its reputation?” asked Mu Qing.
“Haha, congratulations, True Martial Court. You were the first to acquire the treasure of the Mountain of Bitter Rains.” Off in the distance, Zhu Quan of the Black Cliff Sword Sect smiled, but it was obviously insincere; he made no attempt to disguise his sadistic glee.
Numerous people looked over at Mu Qing, their gazes full of hostility.
Those bold enough to do this naturally weren’t weak. How could a weakling disregard Sword Monarch Mu Qing?
“Mu Qing, given the circumstances, I’m afraid True Martial Sword Court has no hope of leaving with the good fortune you’ve acquired,” said Old Ghost Luo. “What do you think?”
Mu Qing fell silent.
Madam Rao Yun of Symphony of Rains Tower smiled. “Old Ghost Luo, aren’t you afraid of offending True Martial Sword Court if you threaten Sword Monarch Mu Qing like that?”
Old Ghost Luo said leisurely, “Swords and sabers have no eyes. When those two True Martial Sword Court cultivators return, there’ll be no avoiding a chaotic battle unless they give up the treasure. If they don’t know what’s good for them, they’ll die. That goes for Mu Qing, too.”
Mu Qing fell silent, his brow tightly furrowed. He had a lot on his mind.
Yu Guangjun and Yang Lingxiao were Eternals too, but here, they were just juniors. In the face of this perilous situation, Mu Qing felt tenser than ever before. If a chaotic battle breaks out, how could these old-timers possibly concern themselves with mere juniors?
Suddenly, Yu Guangjun transmitted, “Martial Uncle, why not just tell them the truth? Su Xuanjun and Pu Xuan aren’t really members of True Martial Court, after all.”
Mu Qing’s gaze was suddenly cold. “Yu Guangjun, you of all people shouldn’t be saying things like that!”
Yu Guangjun steeled himself and said, “Why not?”
“Had Su Xuanjun wanted to kill you outside the Great Qin Empire’s imperial capital, I couldn’t have stopped him,” said Mu Qing. “Isn’t that reason enough?”
Yu Guangjun’s expression shifted, and he fell silent.
“In other words, you owe him your life, yet in the face of a crisis, you’re out to draw a line between yourself and him. Is that any way for a sword cultivator to act? Those who break faith with their allies will inevitably bring shame on the entire sect! A sword cultivator like that is unworthy of cultivating in True Martial Sword Court, and will only invite scorn even if he makes it onto the Unfettered Ranking.
Yu Guangjun’s face paled, and he hung his head in silence.
Mu Qing said, “Look at the Heart-Tempering Sword Sect’s Yang Lingxiao.”
Yu Guangjun froze, then turned to see Yang Lingxiao standing there calmly, holding the hilt of his sword. He showed no sign of nervousness whatsoever.
As a prisoner, Yang Lingxiao should have fled in Su Yi’s absence. Mu Qing wouldn’t have stopped him, either, as Su Yi didn’t say anything about keeping an eye on Yang Lingxiao.
But Yang Lingxiao didn’t flee.
Yu Guangjun found it strange, too, especially now that their situation was so precarious.
From the look of things, it seemed that Yang Lingxiao had no intention of leaving until Su Yi returned.
Yu Guangjun found this even stranger. You’re a prisoner. What are you after?
Suddenly, Yu Guangjun understood why Mu Qing had told him to learn from Yang Lingxiao.
It was simple.
Yang Lingxiao was a prisoner, but he was in no rush to draw a line between himself and Su Xuanjun.
Yet Yu Guangjun, who owed Su Xuanjun his life, had suggested distancing themselves. It was obvious whose mentality was inferior!
“Thank you for guiding me, Martial Uncle.” Yu Guangjun clasped his fist. “I understand what I need to do.”
Mu Qing gently inclined his head. Only then did he reveal some of what he knew. “Su Xuanjun and Pu Xuan’s backgrounds aren’t simple. Even if a chaotic battle breaks out, powerful experts will step forth to protect them!”
Yu Guangjun’s heart shook, and the look in his eyes shifted.
……
Su Yi sat cross-legged on the bank of a stream in the Huaihuang Empire. It was late at night, and the stars shone overhead.
The mundane world had no spiritual energy to speak of, but he’d brought with him an abundance of cultivation resources.
Even just the Eternal Sources he’d gathered from fallen foes numbered in the dozens.
The only disadvantage of this approach was that if he didn’t circulate his cultivation base to resist the Laws of Heaven’s Will, the Eternal Sources would be suppressed, just like cultivators were.
But that didn’t matter.
Su Yi’s body was a miniature world in its own right, fully capable of contending with heaven and earth.
Meanwhile, within the rusted sheath, the boy in green stared at the figure seated across from him, his scalp numb with fright.
Whoever he was, he casually gripped Great Sorrow by the hilt. Even more unreasonably, Great Sorrow was as meek as a lamb. No, it wasn’t just not aggressive; it hummed softly, as if delighted.
What would Master say if he saw that the sword he was most proud of had turned into a simpering dog? The boy glared, furious at Great Sorrow’s spinelessness. It’s a total bootlicker!
But he dared not say anything out loud. After entering the strange world in the sheath, he discovered that, much to his horror, his connection to Great Sorrow had been severed, and he couldn’t display any of his strength.
“What are you so tense about? Come on, smile for me,” the heart devil said with a laugh.
The boy frowned. “You can kill a man, but you shouldn’t humiliate him! If you’ve got the guts, just kill me! See if I even shout or cry!”
The heart devil flicked his finger, and the boy took a blow to the forehead that sent him tumbling backward. Then, tyrannical sword force pinned him in place.
Meanwhile, the heart devil rose, gripped Great Sorrow, and walked over to the boy.
Indescribable, uncontrollable terror welled in his heart.
He was a sword spirit; he shouldn’t have been capable of fear.
Yet in that moment, he was afraid. His fear rose from the deepest recesses of his heart, and there was no keeping it under control.
In his eyes, the approaching figure of the heart devil didn’t seem human at all, but rather like the master of all swords, the ancestor of the Dao of the Sword!
He’s even more terrifying than Master at his peak! The boy couldn’t find the words to describe his fear. Just looking at the heart devil was enough to fill him with despair.
He stood there, gnashing his teeth in silence.
In the end, everything went black before his eyes. Terror seemed to invade his heart and body, and it would soon overwhelm his awareness.
The heart devil crouched, then tousled his hair. “Not bad, not bad. You’re really a good kid; you’re worthy of this sword.”
The terror instantly vanished from the boy’s heart. All of that darkness and despair gave way to warmth and sunlight.
The boy watched in a daze as the heart devil smiled at him. All of the tension fled his body so suddenly that he fell onto his butt.
Who… who is this guy?
