Chapter 2639 - Accepting a Disciple
Chapter 2639 – Accepting a Disciple
The yellow-robed man was stunned. He looked the unfamiliar man in blue up and down, then laughed, “It seems you really have only just arrived in the Central Divine Continent, and that you really don’t understand the situation here. Otherwise, you would never have asked such a question.”
He spoke with a hint of mockery.
“Please enlighten me, Fellow Daoist,” Su Yi said modestly. He’d obscured his true appearance, not because he enjoyed deceiving others, but to avoid provoking unnecessary trouble.
“Wait a bit,” a man in yellow robes said softly. “This isn’t a good time to discuss such things.”
As he spoke, he glanced into the distant dome of heaven. Su Yi followed his gaze.
Resplendent blue sword qi illuminated the firmament. A blue lotus appeared within it, mysterious and ethereal.
Suddenly, the strange phenomenon receded in its entirety, like waters at low tide.
A figure came into view in its place, a thin old man. He was barefoot, disheveled, and clad in hemp. HIs whole body emanated an imposing, ferocious aura.
“They disrupted my sleep. Their deaths are truly unworthy of pity,” murmured the man. He looked around, then suddenly flashed through the air and vanished.
The yellow-robed man looked stricken. He instantly turned to flee.
But before he’d taken his first step, he lowered his foot.
The thin old man had appeared in his path, just nine feet ahead of him!
The yellow-robed man gulped with great difficulty and plastered a rigid smile on his face. He clasped his fist. “What can I do for you, Fellow Daoist?”
“I’ve been asleep for so long that I have no idea what year it is. I see that you’re a Master God, so you ought to be able to answer my questions,” said the old man, his eyes blazing like candles and his voice low and hoarse.
Even just standing there quietly, he put enormous pressure on the man in yellow.
The man in yellow took a moment to steady his nerves, then said, “Fellow Daoist, these are the Dark Days of Legend…”
He launched into a concise explanation. The old man occasionally stopped him to ask a few questions about the present age.
This was an expert from a long-lost age, and he was totally ignorant of the present day, but the yellow-robed man didn’t dare to be negligent. He answered each and every one of his questions.
In the end, the thin old man finally grasped the situation. A melancholy look around on his face, and he murmured, “I went dormant just after the cataclysm ended the Ages of the Five Supremes. Today, I awaken to discover that the world has changed completely!”
He suddenly burst into tears, overcome with grief. “Who could have imagined that I’d be the only survivor of the once enormous Hidden Blue Sword House!?”
The yellow-robed man just stood there, too nervous to even breathe heavily.
Even overwrought with emotion, the old man’s aura was overwhelmingly terrifying, to the point that the man in yellow didn’t dare to make any reckless movements. He certainly didn’t dare to look down on him.
Su Yi stood not far away, watching all of this in silence. He roughly understood the situation. The old man was indeed from a long-lost era, a patriarch-level figure of the Central Divine Continent’s Hidden Blue Sword House.
He was also a Half-Step Eternal!
Admittedly, a cultivation base like that wasn’t enough to concern Su Yi, but Half-Step Eternals were far stronger than Nine-Tribulation Master Gods, second only to False Eternals. In the present-day God Domain, they were extremely rare, too!
Now, an ancient Half-Step Eternal had emerged out of a random ruin. Su Yi couldn’t even imagine how many similar people existed in the rest of the endlessly vast Central Divine Continent.
If there are Half-Step Eternals, are there False Eternals?
Or… perhaps even true Eternals?
That was what Su Yi was truly concerned about
The Central Divine Continent had once been the heart of the God Domain, home to too many orthodoxies to count.
Even added together, the other four Divine Continents weren’t at all comparable.
Alas, back then, a cataclysm left the entire Central Divine Continent in ruin. Even records of its glory were long since covered in dust. It was impossible for modern cultivators to truly understand how glorious the Central Divine Continent had once been.
There was no way of knowing how many Eternals had arisen in the Central Divine Continent at its peak, or how strong the mightiest experts living there really were.
“The dead are long gone, but now, the God Domain faces yet another cataclysm. Much to my surprise, it’s connected to Red Pine Mountain again…” After a while, the old man dried his tears and let out a deep sigh. “I just wonder how serious the cataclysm will be this time…”
Su Yi’s heart shook, but before he could ask, the yellow-robed man blurted, “Senior, are you saying that the cataclysm that swept across the Central Divine Continent originated in the ruins of Red Pine Mountain?”
“That’s right.” The thin old man nodded. “When something reaches its peak, it inevitably declines. The Central Divine Continent of old was just too resplendent and flourishing. It gave rise to countless valiant elites, and someone proved their Dao and achieved Eternity practically every century.”
His eyes shone with reminiscence. “Back then, orthodoxies that had never given rise to an Eternal couldn’t even walk with their heads held high.
“And the Central Divine Continent flourished like it did precisely because of the chaos source hidden beneath Red Pine Mountain.
“Those of us who managed to step into Eternity all once visited Red Pine Mountain and participated in the struggle for good fortune on Red Pine Mountain’s Five Elements Altar.”
The yellow-robed man couldn’t help but look impressed. Even now, everyone knew that Red Pine Mountain was once the greatest divine mountain in the entire God Domain!
It was the site of the God Domain’s chaos source, the origin of its natural order, and the birthplace of its myriad daos!
Of late, countless cultivators had rushed to the Central Divine Continent. Many had headed straight for the ruins of Red Pine Mountain.
Because rumor had it that Battle for Order would be fought in the ruins of Red Pine Mountain!
It was just that the yellow-robed man hadn’t realized that even at the peak of the Central-Divine Continent’s prosperity, Red Pine Mountain was a blessed ground for achieving Eternity.
Everyone who managed to enter Eternity did so through Red Pine Mountain!
Su Yi’s curiosity was piqued, too. To think that Red Pine Mountain hid such secrets. Just how many Eternals arose in the Central Divine Continent, anyway?
“Fortune and disaster go hand in hand. Red Fine Mountain brought the Central Divine Continent its golden age, but it also brought about its end,” the thin old man said with a deep sigh. “When the cataclysm spread, countless races perished, countless orthodoxies toppled, and countless lives were snuffed out. The prosperity of that golden age went up in a puff of smoke.”
His voice was full of grief.
“But you’re still alive,” Su Yi said suddenly.
The yellow-robed man silently stiffened, visibly losing his cool. This kid is way too brazen! How could he speak so recklessly?
Doesn’t he realize that all of those cultivators were wiped out just for disturbing the old man’s slumber?
But against his expectations, the old man said dejectedly, “That’s right. I’m still alive, but… everything I had back then is gone. What’s the point of living?”
This time, Su Yi had no answers for him.
But the thin old man suddenly looked at Su Yi. “What do you think is the purpose of living?”
Su Yi took a sip of wine and said, “Simply being alive is meaningful in its own right. It needs no other purpose.”
The old man froze, then sank into thought.
After a lengthy pause, he exhaled and murmured, “It’s true. Only the living can accomplish anything. That’s what living is for.”
As he spoke, his whole body suddenly livened up, his eyes bright and sharp, as if he were suddenly countless years lighter.
“Since I’m still alive, the Hidden Blue Sword House has hope of passing on its legacy! I can ensure its teachings live on!”
The thin old man walked up to Su Yi and said approvingly, “Little fellow, it seems that you and I are connected by fate. Are you willing to accept me as your master and become a disciple of Hidden Blue Sword House?”
Su Yi was stunned, but the yellow-robed man looked envious. They only just met, but he won an ancient expert’s admiration with a single sentence. The old man’s even willing to accept him as a legacy disciple!
This is unquestionably a stroke of fortune as grand as the heavens themselves! Never mind ordinary people; that’s enough to inspire envy in even Master Gods like me!
When the man in yellow saw that Su Yi was just standing there, he urged him not to miss out on this wonderful opportunity. “Don’t just stand there! This is a grand stroke of fortune worth more than eight lifetimes of accumulated positive karma! Hurry up and greet your master!”
“It seems my offer was a bit overly abrupt,” the thin old man said with a smile. “You can take your time to think it over, then decide. If you become my apprentice, you can naturally inherit the mantle of Hidden Blue Sword House, and with it, legacies that will carry you all the way to Eternity!”
The man in yellow gasped. He didn’t even need to think to know that Hidden Blue Sword House had once given rise to Eternals!
When he saw that Su Yi still wasn’t saying anything, the yellow-robed man couldn’t hold back any longer. “Senior, I might not be a sword cultivator, but I wholeheartedly pursue the Dao. If you aren’t averse, this junior is willing to join Hidden Blue Sword House and work to carry on its legacy!”
With that, he clasped his fist and bowed.
Some strokes of fortune were determined by the heavens, but others, you could fight for!
The man in yellow glanced at Su Yi. That kid might not understand how precious this opportunity is, but I’m a Master God. How could I not understand?
“You?” The thin old man glanced at him. “You’ve already stepped into the Undying Realm, and the course of your cultivation is set, with no room for change. I’m afraid…”
The man in yellow inwardly cried out in alarm. Out loud, he said, “I cannot change course, but there is no limit to the Grand Dao. That we crossed paths today is proof that this junior is connected to the Hidden Blue Sword House by fate. Even if I cannot inherit its mantle, I’m willing to accompany you and listen to your teachings!”
He was a Master God, yet here he was, practically begging. Su Yi couldn’t help but find this surprising.
But he quickly understood. So what if the man in yellow had reached the Undying Realm? Every step he took within the Undying Realm was endlessly difficult.
Entering an ancient orthodoxy like the Hidden Blue Sword House would be endlessly beneficial.
Even if the thin old man was the only Hidden Blue Sword House expert that remained, it’d be enough. The old man could still teach him the sect’s legacies and guide his cultivation!
After a moment’s thought, the thin old man said, “Very well. I’ll give you an opportunity. Travel with me, and if you earn my approval, I wouldn’t mind accepting you into the sect.”
The yellow-robed man instantly went mad with delight, and he wept tears of gratitude. “Thank you so much for granting me this opportunity, Senior!”
The thin old man then returned his attention to Su Yi. “Have you thought it over yet, my young friend?”
The yellow-robed man looked at Su Yi, too. He knew that the young man in blue was the one the old man really cared about!
Who knows? He might one day become my junior apprentice brother! Or perhaps… my senior apprentice brother?
It’ll all come down to who joins the sect first!
