Chapter 2611 – Only Now Does the Crowd Recognize Their Blue-Robed Guest
These were the methods of a ruler.
The Battle for Order would change the whole world.
The Battle for Order would change the whole world, but it was entirely within these experts’ power to monopolize it, preventing others from competing with them.
It was much like how local tyrants of the mundane world effectively monopolized opportunities to rise through the ranks via imperial examinations. Students from poor households had no chance to rise through the ranks. All they could do was serve those in power, generation after generation, muddling along at the lowest level of society, never to rise to prominence.
Dao Venerate Lu Shi’s suggestion would do much the same thing. He’d created a monopoly with just a few words, severing others’ chances of participating in the Battle for Order.
Was it fair? This was just how the world was. Why even speak of fairness?
Su Yi didn’t say anything, nor did the unfairness bother him.
He knew that these old-timers might be able to stop the vast majority of the world’s cultivators from participating in the Battle for Order, but they couldn’t possibly stop all of them.
“Then let’s move on to the second item on the agenda,” said Dao Venerate Lu Shi. “The skies of the God Domain are bright with beacon fires, and the masses are suffering…”
He went on for a long time, but Su Yi treated it all like wind blowing past his ears.
How many of these old-timers of the River of Destiny really cared about the people of the God Domain?
Indeed, after all that build up, Dao Venerate Lu Shi said, “I think it’s time for this chaos to come to an end!”
The crowd instinctively looked to the western seats, where Yu Chiyang and the others were sitting.
If Lu Shi wanted to restore the peace, he naturally had to talk to the Myriad Daos Alliance’s backers.
Yu Chiyang inclined his head. “That’s exactly what we had in mind. But, if we’re to quell the world’s upheaval, there’s a troublesome knot we’ll have to untangle first.”
“Oh? What do you mean?” someone couldn’t help but ask.
“I’m talking about Su Yi!” Yu Chiyang swept his gaze across the crowd.
Many of their expressions shifted as they realized what he was after.
“I’m sure you understand that better than anyone, Fellow Daoist Lu.” Yu Chiyang looked at Dao Venerate Lu Shi, his gaze rife with meaning.
By now, who in the God Domain didn’t know that Su Yi and the old-timers of the New World Alliance were irreconcilable enemies?
Dao Venerate Lu Shi inclined his head. “You’re absolutely right, Fellow Daoist. I invited you all here today to resolve that very problem.”
He paused, then smiled, “In truth, it doesn’t have to be difficult. It all depends on whether you agree with my proposal or not.”
“Oh?” said Yu Chiyang. “Let’s hear it, then.”
Everyone pricked up their ears.
Dao Venerate Lu Shi said directly, “I’d like the Myriad Daos Alliance to join forces with the New World Alliance to jointly target Su Yi in the name of carrying out heaven’s will and saving the masses from disaster!”
Uproar ensued. The crowd stirred.
Who didn’t know that the two alliances existed in opposition to each other?
Yet now, Dao Venerate Lu Shi was suggesting that they work together to defeat Su Yi!
This was outside of most of the attendees’ expectations.
Wang Zhiwu was stunned, too. He said promptly, “What does saving the masses from disaster have to do with getting rid of Su Yi? Don’t tell me… that he’s the primary culprit behind the masses’ suffering?”
Dao Venerate Lu Shi said evenly, “The masses aren’t important, and it doesn’t matter whether or not Su Yi is responsible for their suffering. It’s a pretense. Our goal is to eliminate Su Yi and the latent threat he represents. Nothing more, nothing less.”
He spoke forthrightly, not bothering to hide his true intentions.
A thought rose unbidden to Su Yi’s mind. “If you want to accuse someone, you can always find a pretense.”
He wasn’t angry, nor was he emotional. He was just surprised that Dao Venerate Lu Shi would choose to join forces with the Myriad Daos Alliance like this.
“Don’t you think you’re overestimating Su Yi?” someone asked in disbelief. “He’s just one person. Is he really worth going to such lengths?”
Dao Venerate Lu Shi said calmly, “Su Yi is far more dangerous than you think. He’s just one person, but he’s capable of single-handedly altering the balance of power and shifting the course of the future!
“Moreover, his past life was the sword cultivator known as the Greatest of the Unthroned. No matter how highly you appraise someone like him, it won’t be excessive!”
Silence descended over the crowd.
Su Yi!
He was an existence not even the old-timers of the River of Destiny could overlook.
It wasn’t just that he had a heaven-defying cultivation base, or that he controlled the power of reincarnation and the Epoch Spark. His past lives were extraordinary, too!
Who’d dare to underestimate someone like him?
Wang Zhiwu felt strange. It’s true. No matter how highly you appraise Su Yi, it wouldn’t be excessive!
He’d already experienced that firsthand.
But the thought that Su Yi was in attendance as these old-timers discussed how they’d go about defeating him made the handsome young man feel a bit strange.
“Fellow Daoist, do you agree with my proposal?” Dao Venerate Lu Shi looked at Yu Chiyang.
Yu Chiwang fell silent.
Everyone else waited patiently. They knew that Yu Chiyang’s decision would change the course of the future!
After all, if the two alliances joined forces, who else in the God Domain would be able to compete with them?
After a while, Yu Chiyang reached a decision. “I can agree to let the Myriad Daos Alliance assist the New World Alliance in defeating Su Yi, but only that and nothing more.”
Dao Venerate Lu Shi laughed and applauded. “That’s plenty!”
He then swept his gaze across the crowd. “After today’s meeting ends, tomorrow at the latest, I’ll have Di E contact the leader of the Myriad Daos Alliance and publicly declare war on Su Yi!”
The crowd stirred. Many of the gathered higher-ups’ eyes lit up. They could no longer remain seated.
Wang Zhiwu snuck a glance at Su Yi, his expression inscrutable. He had never even considered the possibility that he’d witness something like this at the assembly on Returning Dragon Mountain!
Didn’t this mean that, going forward, Su Yi would be the common foe of everyone beneath the heavens? Both major alliances would work together to destroy him!
Wang Zhiwu was eager to learn how Su Yi felt about this, but in the end, he refrained from asking.
Su Yi was just sitting there, calm as a rock. That proved that this hadn’t shaken his heart.
“What will we do if Su Yi goes into hiding and refuses to fight after we issue our joint declaration of war?” someone asked.
That was entirely within the realm of possibility. Given Su Yi’s capabilities, if Su Yi wanted to go into hiding, it wouldn’t be at all difficult.
“He can run if he wants,” Yu Chiyang said calmly. “But can Sunset Perch Island run? Can everyone close to him run?”
He spoke casually, but the threat was readily apparent.
This time, Wang Zhiwu noticed that Su Yi’s brow furrowed almost imperceptibly. It was clear that Yu Chiyang’s words crossed Su Yi’s bottom line!
Dao Venerate Lu Shi said calmly, “Su Yi has never been afraid of threats, and given our status, there’s no need for us to resort to them just to force Su Yi to accept our challenge. When we declare war, we’ll guarantee that so long as he accepts our challenge, we won’t implicate those uninvolved. Given his disposition, he’s sure to accept.”
He spoke with confidence. Many of the attendees nodded along.
If Su Yi really cared about those around him, how could he possibly flee from battle?
There was also no denying that Lu Shi understood Su Yi’s thoughts perfectly. He wasn’t afraid of a direct, forthright challenge, but he hated nothing more than those who threatened those around him.
Then, someone else asked, “Daoist Brother Lu, what will we do with the Epoch Spark and power of reincarnation after we’ve killed Su Yi?”
He sounded eager, and he spoke directly, not bothering to hide his desires. In doing so, he gave voice to what many of the attendees were thinking.
What expert from the River of Destiny didn’t long for the Epoch Spark and power of reincarnation?
“It’ll all come down to skill!” laughed Lu Shi. “No matter what, we have to kill Su Yi first.”
“That’s right. Let’s kill Su Yi first and worry about the rest later,” Yu Chiyang said with a nod. “Once this meeting is over, I’ll have Taishu Gong of the Heavenly Court of the Five Sovereigns contact Di E to discuss when and where they’ll declare war on Su Yi.”
Then, he looked at the neutral parties seated to the north and south. “Are you willing to participate in this, too?”
The neutral parties hesitated. After all, participating would mean helping them oppose Su Yi.
But refusing would mean losing their chance to acquire the Epoch Spark and the power of reincarnation!
Before long, the neutral parties made up their minds. Most chose to participate!
Only a handful refused.
These included Wang Zhiwu, who made himself perfectly clear. “If I’m going to kill Su Yi, I’ll do it myself. I have no desire to get mixed up in these turbid waters.”
Yu Chiyang couldn’t help but jeer, “You’re actually quite clever, Wang Zhiwu. When we kill Su Yi, we’ll have effectively gotten revenge for you.”
Wang Zhiwu just said flatly, “I hope you succeed.”
With that, the cooperation between the two great alliances officially began. When word spread to the rest of the God Domain, it would surely cause a huge commotion and shift the balance of power.
Su Yi had watched it all from the sidelines, but now, he suddenly spoke up. “Are all of you done talking?”
The crowd froze, stunned, then looked at him, their eyes full of bewilderment. Don’t tell me this guy has objections?
“If you have something to say, go right ahead,” Dao Venerate Lu Shi said with a smile.
Su Yi drained his cup and said, “I think you might as well just attack immediately.
With that, he rose, and his appearance silently reverted, revealing his true features. He said flatly, “Let’s see whether you kill me, or I kill all of you.”
The crowd fell silent, their eyes widening. All of them were flabbergasted. Su Yi!!
He was here this whole time! He even heard all of our plans!
Even though these old-timers had seen their fair share of wind and rain, this sudden development left them reeling.
Wang Zhiwu gasped. He, too, was caught off guard. He would never have guessed that Su Yi would just reveal himself like this.
“Su Yi!?”
The Angler was standing behind Dao Venerate Lu Shi. He suddenly looked over at that tall, upright figure with undisguised astonishment.
Silence descended over the area. The only noise was the wind blowing through the mountains, throwing the misty clouds—and the crowd’s hearts—into disarray.
