Chapter 2609 - Red Robes Blot Out the Sun
Chapter 2609 – Red Robes Blot Out the Sun
Su Yi had never been interested in showing off, and he’d always disdained doing so.
The handsome young man’s words did, however, pique his curiosity. “So you still haven’t condensed a Heart Soul?”
“I haven’t,” said the handsome young man. “Even the old-timer I conversed with had only touched the threshold. That was a long time ago. I suspect that by now… he’s successfully condensed a Heart Soul.”
A nigh imperceptible hint of envy appeared on the handsome young man’s face.
“Who was he?” asked Su Yi.
“Lu Hongpao, one of the Nine Heavenly Sovereigns of the Eternal heavens Domain. The people call him the Red-Robed Heavenly Sovereign,” the handsome young man said leisurely. “His red robes blot out the stun, and only darkness lies beyond Eternity. He’s an old friend, as well as the Heavenly Sovereign I admire most.”
Red robes blotting out the sun! Only darkness lies beyond Eternity!
Su Yi’s eyebrows rose as he silently committed the name “Lu Hongpao” to memory.
……
Returning Dragon Mountain, an ordinary mountain seldom spoken of, was located in the Ancient Nirvana Divine Continent.
The slopes were steep and precarious. It was built like a coiling dragon, hence the name.
A meeting few knew of was underway on the peak.
“Mountains don’t become famous for their height, but for the immortals living there. Now that we old-timers of the River of Destiny have gathered here, this place will be spoken of throughout the God Domain for ages to come,” said a scholarly man in Confucian robes. He was seated on board a treasure ship, and he carried a feather fan.
“That depends on whether or not we can reach an agreement,” said the short old man behind him. His gaze was cold, and his face was expressionless.
The Confucian scholar said softly, “It’ll all come down to effort. I trust that the Myriad Daos Alliance and Lu Shi’s New World Alliance will be able to reach an agreement.”
“That would be best,” said the short old man with a curt nod.
Suddenly, the man in Confucian robes turned and gazed into the distance.
Two figures were headed their way, a handsome young man in gray and a plain looking man in blue.
The handsome young man in gray seemed to sense the Confucian’s gaze. He instantly looked over, then stopped in place and smiled without a word.
The Confucian nodded, then looked away. That was effectively a greeting.
“I didn’t expect ol’ Wang Zhiwu to show up,” the Confucian said with a frown. “Do you know who invited him?”
The short old man shook his head. “Dao Venerate Lu Shi called for today’s meeting. It seems that everyone at all reputable on the River of Destiny received an invitation.”
He paused, then added, “But I really didn’t suspect Wang Zhiwu to show up.”
Wang Zhiwu!
He was an unparalleled Dao Lord of the River of Destiny, and he was a willful loner, always acting as he pleased. His origins were mysterious and unfathomable.
Sometimes, he seemed wicked. Other times, he seemed righteous. He was capricious and unpredictable, and he had essentially zero friends.
Still, no one would deny that Wang Zhiwu was strong!
Everyone in the Eternal Heavens Domain knew that he carried the Book of legends, so they called him the Master of Legends.
“It’s fine that he’s here. We can seize this opportunity to try and rope him in,” said the Confucian scholar.
The short old man fell briefly silent. “I’m afraid that won’t be easy.”
“We can at least try,” laughed the Confucian.
As they spoke, their Treasure Ship was shooting toward Returning Dragon Mountain.
Meanwhile——
“Those two are called Yu Chiyang and Tie Youlei. They’re from the Court of the Southern Heavens, a faction of the Eternal Heavens Domain,” said the handsome young man in gray, Wang Zhiwu. The words just flowed out of him. “Both are high-ranking authority figures, but these are just their avatars. Despite their higher seniority and cultivation bases, here in the God Domain, they couldn’t possibly defeat Huang Yanleng.”
Su Yi took a sip of wine. “Why do you say that?”
“It’s simple. If I suppressed my cultivation base down to the Undying Realm, there’s no way I’d be a match for you,” said Wang Zhiwu. “The chaos source power of the present-day God Domain represents a real threat to we old-timers of the River of Destiny. Thus, all of our avatars of will are capped at just about the same level.
“Here, where our cultivations are effectively equal, Huang Yanleng’s foundations and methods are far beyond those old-timers’.”
Su Yi instantly understood.
It was true. Assuming everyone was at the same level of cultivation, he figured he could take on anybody. He’d be invincible even if Heavenly Sovereigns showed up!
It was much the same for Huang Yanleng.
“The Court of the Southern Heavens’ is the Heavenly Court of the Five Sovereigns’ backer, and by extension, the backers of the entire Myriad Daos Alliance,” explained Wang Zhiwu.
He looked at Su Yi, suddenly curious. “Didn’t the Myriad Daos Alliance invite you to join them? Why not take a stance? After all, hasn’t your silence won you nothing but widespread criticism?”
“I didn’t feel like it,” said Su Yi.
“Nice.” Wang Zhiwu gave him a thumbs up.
Who cared about the Myriad Daos Alliance or the opinion of the masses? He didn’t feel like bothering with it, so he didn’t. It was just that simple.
Whoosh!
A dazzling streak of light suddenly shot over from afar. It blazed like fire, and wherever it passed, a perfectly straight rift formed, like a path paved out of the misty light of dusk.
“Ee? It’s you, old man.” That streak of light stopped, then took on the form of an old man with a thick belt, tall hat, a white beard, and imperial robes. He looked at the handsome young man in gray. “Wang Zhiwu, given your status, why bother coming here? Is it just for the spectacle?”
Wang Zhiwu? This was Su Yi’s first time learning the handsome young man’s name.
“You’re here, so why shouldn’t I be here?” Wang Zhiwu said coolly.
The white-bearded old man in imperial robes narrowed his eyes, then laughed. “Don’t misunderstand. I dare not comment on your affairs, Wang Zhiwu.”
His gaze shifted to Su Yi. “And who is this fellow Daoist?”
“You aren’t worthy of knowing,” said Wang Zhiwu.
The white-bearded old man’s smile froze, then vanished. He opened his mouth as if to say something.
But then, Wang Zhiwu pointed into the distance. “Get the hell out of my way!”
“You…” The old man’s hair and beard bristled with anger. He felt like he had no face left.
But in the end, he didn’t say anything. He just left with a swing of his sleeves.
Wang Zhiwu’s eyes flashed with disdain. “The geezer’s sure gotten a swelled head over the past few years. He seriously dares call me directly by name? It’s only out of consideration for the sect behind him that I haven’t destroyed his avatar of will already!”
Su Yi didn’t say anything, but he could tell that Wang Zhiwu’s status was extraordinary. He was likely quite famous on the River of Destiny.
Otherwise, people wouldn’t keep coming up to greet him like this.
“Aren’t you curious about their origins?” the handsome young man couldn’t help but ask.
Anyone else from the God Domain would have found it hard to suppress their curiosity after meeting someone from the God Domain. They’d naturally want to know their identity and background.
But Su Yi seemed totally disinterested. He didn’t ask a single question.
Su Yi said casually, “It doesn’t matter who they are. I’ll just take them all for passing strangers.”
The handsome young man couldn’t help but laugh. He raised his hand as if to pat Su Yi on the shoulder, but his hand was still mid-gesture when he seemed to realize that it wouldn’t be appropriate, so he set his hand back down.
As they conversed, they drew closer to the rest of the group.
Along the way, more and more people arrived. All of them were shooting toward Returning Dragon Mountain. Some rode on birds and beasts, others on auspicious clouds or flying swords.
All of them were from the River of Destiny!
When these Eternal Dao Lords discovered Wang Zhiwu, they either called out greetings from afar or smiled and exchanged pleasantries.
But there was also no shortage of people hostile to him.
A thin man completely bathed in golden lightning even pointed and cursed him out. “Wang Zhiwu, if you’ve got the balls, stick around after the meeting on Returning Dragon Mountain!”
Wang Zhiwu burst into laughter and laughed, saying that the thin man was like a schoolboy threatening a classmate. All he knew how to do was say “If you think you’re so tough, don’t leave after class!”
The thin man’s face reddened with anger. He almost started duking it out with Wang Zhiwu on the spot.
In the end, his companions dissuaded him. Only then did they narrowly avoid coming to blows.
Su Yi finally understood. Wang Zhiwu doesn’t just know a lot of people; he’s offended a lot of people.
Just as they were about to reach the mountain, a swath of glittering golden clouds drifted over from afar.
A group stood atop the clouds. The leader wore Daoist robes, and he looked like a young man. His eyes were as clear as pools of water.
This was none other than Dao Venerate Lu Shi!
A group stood behind him, including a white-eyebrowed old monk, a Daoist in a feather coat, and numerous others. There were more than ten in total.
One of them, Su Yi couldn’t have been any more familiar with.
The Angler!
The old-timer was mixed into the crowd, dressed in undyed robes. The conical hat he typically wore was nowhere to be found, revealing his thin, aged face.
For a moment, murderous intent rose in Su Yi’s heart.
It was also then that Dao Venerate Lu’s gaze fixed on the distant Su Yi and handsome young man in gray.
