Chapter 2479 - If You Die Beneath My Sword You Can Rest in Peace
Chapter 2479 – If You Die Beneath My Sword You Can Rest in Peace
The beast skin scroll unfurled.
A stretch of night sky appeared, adorned with countless flashing stars.
But unlike ordinary night skies, this starry sky was endlessly, immeasurably vast, and it emanated an air of Eternity.
The countless stars flashing in the void produced a wondrous, mysterious air of destiny. It was as if each star represented a different fate. When the countless stars flashed together, it was like the light of countless possible destinies!
Eternity!
Destiny!
This stretch of stars encompassed both unsurpassed powers. This was unquestionably far too shocking.
When Su Yi saw this from within the Dao-Severing Sword Cage, he couldn’t help but narrow his eyes.
He could understand the air of Eternity, as everyone who stepped into the Path of Eternity mastered an Eternal Law.
But the air of destiny was far too mysterious and rare. This was far beyond preordainment or karma. Instead, it touched upon the unsurpassed Daos of fate and fortune!
Shockingly, when the beast skin unfurled, it unleashed such high-level power of the Laws. It was like the descent of the judgment of destiny!
Boom!
When the starry skies appeared, the countless stars rumbled and boomed. Starlight imbued with the aura of destiny poured down from the nine heavens like a waterfall.
The power of reincarnation around Su Yi was instantly under terrifying suppression!
The starlight was full of the unsurpassed power of destiny. It was as if the River of Destiny itself were intent on enveloping Su Yi and making him sink into oblivion within its depths.
Su Yi circulated his cultivation base and resisted with all his might, but his powers of reincarnation were nonetheless thoroughly suppressed.
He was completely stuck there!
It wasn’t that the power of reincarnation wasn’t strong enough, but that his mastery of it was limited to the Undying Realm.
And this starlight imbued with the power of destiny was a true Eternal Law!
Su Yi’s brow furrowed, but he didn’t panic. His power of reincarnation had been suppressed, and he was trapped in the Dao-Severing Sword Cage, but if his opponent wanted to destroy his power of reincarnation completely, he wouldn’t be able to do so so easily!
The Malevolent Sword Venerate approached from the distant Thunderwind Sea.
“I’ve been eagerly awaiting your return ever since you chose to enter the cycle of reincarnation to cultivate anew,” said the Malevolent Sword Venerate. “I made no small effort to prepare. I’ve arranged countermeasures for the power of reincarnation. The power of the Eternal Laws of the Starscape is but one such trifle.
“In the Eternal Heavens Domain, the Laws of the Starscape are ranked ninth. They’re supremely powerful, as they contain the mysteries of the transformations of fate, and they’re connected to both Destiny and Eternity.”
As he spoke, he arrived about ninety feet away from Su Yi. There, he stopped in place and advanced no further.
Instead, he fixed his cold gaze on Su Yi. “What do you think?”
The Laws of the Starscape! The ninth strongest in the Eternal Heavens Domain!
Su Yi’s eyes narrowed. “This Dao is wondrous indeed, but… it doesn’t seem like it’ll be enough to defeat me.”
The Malevolent Sword Venerate sighed. “This is, after all, the God Domain, not the Eternal Heavens Domain. The power of the Laws of the Starscape are severely restricted. It’s much like how my Dao-Severing Sword Cage can slay Limitless Dao Lords in the River of Destiny, but here, it can only display a fragment of its power.”
He looked Su Yi up and down. “Still, as paltry as these tricks are, it doesn’t look like you can counter them.”
He’d only just said this when Su Yi rose to his full height, and his power of reincarnation erupted.
Boom!
The starry skies shattered. Trillions of stars fell, dimmed, and scattered.
The beast skin scroll hovering over the Malevolent Sword Venerate’s palm shook violently, then split.
The Dao-Severing Sword Cage collapsed too, dissipating into dazzling sword light before withering completely.
As the dust and smoke rose into the air, the Malevolent Sword Venerate’s expression shifted. His figure silently blurred, and he closed the distance between him and Su Yi.
Su Yi said as if all of this were perfectly normal, “You were right. This really was a paltry trick; it wasn’t even worth mentioning.”
The Malevolent Sword Venerate seemed to understand. He laughed and shook his head. “You call it a ‘paltry trick’, but you couldn’t have countered it without the Sword of the Nine Hells. How can you say that it isn’t worth mentioning?”
Su Yi said calmly, “You’re using Eternal power against someone who only just recently entered the Undying Realm. What right do you have to mock me for relying on external power?”
He sneered. “If we were at the same level of cultivation, I’d kill you as easily as I might a chicken.”
The Malevolent Sword Venerate laughed, not the least bit upset. “I see you’re quite confident in this lifetime’s cultivation base, but… I’m actually rather eager to see how you’ll fare in this confrontation without the Sword of the Nine Hells!”
Boom!
The Malevolent Sword Venerate raised his hand, and his fingers formed a seal.
The Sword of the Nine Hells shook violently as an invisible force tried to pull it out of Su Yi’s sea of consciousness!
In all of Su Yi’s time cultivating, nothing like this had ever happened before. Even when he’d clashed with his past lives, nothing had ever affected the Sword of the Nine Hells like this!
“Capture!” bellowed the Malevolent Sword Venerate.
It was like a magic invocation. The Sword of the Nine Hells broke free of Su Yi’s sea of consciousness and landed in the Malevolent Sword Venerate’s hand!
Su Yi’s face paled. He let out a muffled grunt of agony, and his brow furrowed.
Although he remained calm, to the Malevolent Sword Venerate, it looked like he was putting on an act.
“See that? The Sword of the Nine Hells won’t follow your orders anymore,” the Malevolent Sword Venerate said calmly and unhurriedly. “How will you fight me now?”
As he spoke, he examined the Sword of the Nine Hells.
The sword’s aura was mysterious and inscrutable. The blade looked plain and lightless, but the unsurpassed sword force it emanated was enough to make the entire stretch of heaven and earth change color.
The Malevolent Sword Venerate’s eyes lit up, as if with searing flames.
“A mere incarnation of negative karma like you cannot possibly hope to control that sword. Watch out for a backlash,” said Su Yi.
The Malevolent Sword Venerate couldn’t help but laugh. “I’ve controlled this sword before, and I understand it far better than you. You… are worried over nothing!”
Su Yi said no more on the matter. He just attacked directly.
Boom!
He took a step forward, waving his fist as he might a sword. His punch brought with it the far-reaching power of the Laws of Supreme Emergence, which descended upon the Malevolent Sword Venerate.
“Divine punishment? Something like that cannot possibly defeat me!” The Malevolent Sword Venerate snorted coldly, then swung his sleeve.
The bronze disc hovering above his head suddenly erupted with intense, Eternal radiance. It effortlessly crushed Su Yi’s punch.
Su Yi’s frown deepened, but he didn’t stop his attacks.
Sword qi criss-crossed through the air, visions of reincarnation appeared, and the Laws of Supreme Emergence swept forth, terrifying beyond limit.
But no matter what he tried, the Malevolent Sword Venerate destroyed his attacks one by one. Su Yi couldn’t damage him in the slightest.
On the contrary, as this fierce confrontation raged on, Su Yi was forced back and sent flying repeatedly. Before long, he was left with heavy wounds!
“When an ant tries to shake a tree, it’s because it overestimates itself. When a moth dives into the flames, it’s because it doesn’t understand the threat of death. When a mantis tries to block a chariot, it’s because it’s ignorant. All three idioms perfectly describe what you’re doing now,” said the Malevolent Sword Venerate. He shook his head, his eyes full of disdain.
There was no denying it; he was terrifyingly strong, with an abundance of abilities, and he’d come prepared.
The power of reincarnation, the Sword of the Nine Hells, and the Laws of Supreme Emergence were all more than enough for Su Yi to defeat experts of the present age, and they should have countered an incarnation of negative karma like the Malevolent Sword Venerate, too.
But now, the Malevolent Sword Venerate was using a series of countermeasures to neutralize them, one by one.
The Laws of the Starscape had suppressed the Laws of Reincarnation.
The Malevolent Sword Venerate had used a secret art to seize the Sword of the Nine Hells.
And now, the bronze disc hovering over his head had neutralized the Laws of Supreme Emergence!
In terms of strength, the Malevolent Sword Venerate had long since stood over the River of Destiny. Even though this was just a wisp of his awareness, he was far too strong for an Undying Realm Master God like Su Yi to defeat!
There was no need to even question it. The Malevolent Sword Venerate had prepared thoroughly so that he might defeat Su Yi today.
He’d suppressed all of Su Yi’s abilities. There was no way for Su Yi to turn this around!
Boom!
Yet another fierce clash later, Su Yi was sent flying tens of thousands of feet before he finally managed to steady himself.
By now, his long hair hung loose, his face was pallid, and he was covered in wounds. He looked utterly wretched.
The Malevolent Sword Venerate looked at him with pity. “Without those external powers and treasures, you’re like an egg flinging itself against a rock. You’re far too ridiculous, and far too pathetic!”
With that, he raised the Sword of the Nine Hells and pointed its tip at Su Yi. He said calmly, “It’s time to end this. Before you die, I’ll let you bear witness to my true attainments in the Dao of the Sword. That way, you’ll be able to rest in peace!”
His voice was like the clear song of a phoenix resounding throughout the Thunderwind Sea.
The Malevolent Sword Venerates robes billowed, and his long hair danced in the wind. The moment he raised the Sword of the Nine Hells, tyrannical, sharp, destructive, and terrifying sword force rose around him, shooting in the firmament.
His eyes glinted like swords, and his skin surged with waves of sword intent. Even his hair scattered a rain of wisps of sword qi. Countless sword-shaped mysterious markings manifested of the Laws appeared, grinding away the surrounding skies!
It was as if he himself were an ancient sword unparalleled in its sharpness. He could suppress the heavens, and nothing could block his edge!
Off in the distance, Su Yi narrowed his eyes.
The Malevolent Sword Venerate shone with endless radiance, like the sole ruler of this entire stretch of heaven and earth. He was just that dazzling and just that unparalleled. He gazed down at the world with contemptuous pride.
And the sword force emanating from him was simply terrifying beyond measure.
Even at a great distance, Su Yi felt suffocating pressure bearing down on him, and a prickling pain in his skin. His heart and soul were under an unprecedented onslaught. Both shook violently as if about to collapse.
This is my second incarnation’s power? No, this is just his heart devil, and just a wisp of his awareness at that! How much stronger must he be in his true peak state?
“Cut!” The Malevolent Sword Venerate bellowed and swung his sword.
Heaven and earth instantly fell silent. All facets of creation faded away as the Thunderwind Sea was eradicated completely.
As the unstoppably dazzling sword force swept outward, the power of the formation covering what was once the Thunderwind Sea collapsed, offering no more resistance than paper window paneling. Soon, no trace of it remained.
Beneath the firmament, the Laws reacted, and divine punishment descended like the apocalypse.
The entire area was a terrifying vision of annihilation. Everything was enveloped in endless sword light.
The Malevolent Sword Venerate stood there, then sighed, “It’s a pity, but I’m ultimately just an avatar of will. I cannot display the complete mysteries of my attainments in the Dao of the Sword. Otherwise, the power of that strike would have been far greater.
“But you died beneath my sword. That’s enough.”
The Malevolent Sword Venerate gazed down at the Sword of the Nine Hells, a smile on his face as he murmured, “From this day forth, everything you have belongs to me. After all… we were the same person to begin with.”
