Chapter 2411 - Finding Release in Death

Chapter 2411 – Finding Release in Death

The blood-red tribulation light swept across the sky, enveloping the mountains and rivers in a world of death and destruction.

The desperate shrieks faded away.

There was no longer any sign of those frantically fleeing figures; wherever the light passed, it eradicated everyone beneath it.

Only the area around Su Yi looked jarringly out of place.

Chaos light fell, resisting the tribulation light. Everything within one hundred feet was calm and quiet as could be.

“The Epoch Spark is the seed of a new civilization. If it develops fully, it can grow into a full-fledged epoch,” the heart devil’s voice suddenly emanated from the rusted sheath. “Do you realize the implications?

“Have a look at the epoch civilization you’re currently standing in. It doesn’t just encompass countless planes; it’s home to trillions of lifeforms and all styles of cultivation, as well as dazzling legacies of the Grand Dao…

“What unparalleled chosen of heaven? What hegemons? What rulers? They’re all… no more than living beings of the present epoch.

“It’s only by rising above one’s epoch of origin and arriving on the River of Destiny that one can truly transcend. Otherwise, when the present epoch declines and the Epoch Tribulation erupts, none shall escape!

“But the Epoch Spark you’ve refined has an opportunity to one day become a complete epoch civilization. When the time comes, you’ll have the power to shape it. You’ll be the creator of a new epoch, a true, unparalleled ruler!

“Such taboo treasures are like legends even in the River of Destiny. The Epoch Spark’s mysteries and applications are far more unbelievable than you imagine.

“If you were willing to give it up, even those Limitless Dao Lords of the Path of Eternity would accept you as their ancestor!”

Su Yi listened quietly.

The Epoch Spark had been given to him by his first incarnation. His first incarnation’s heart devil naturally understood it far better than others.

He also recalled that the River Lord had protected the Epoch Spark throughout the ages. He wasn’t the only one, either; even Gongye Futu’s avatar of will had been there to watch over it.

And both the River Lord and Gongye Futu had long since stepped onto the River of Destiny.

It was just a taboo treasure Su Yi’s first incarnation had left for him, yet it required two Eternals to watch over it. That made it obvious that the Epoch Spark wasn’t simple.

More importantly, it was the Epoch Spark that had let Su Yi step onto an altogether unprecedented Path of Divinity!

This unsurpassed path was the reason his first incarnation had chosen to reincarnate and cultivate anew.

“The Tribulation of the Five Witherings originates from the source of the present epoch. It’s a supreme killing power born of the will of heaven, and it’s mighty enough to threaten everyone beneath the heavens,” said the heart devil. “Except for you, because you have the Epoch Spark, and it too contains the source power of an epoch civilization. It can counter the tribulation’s effects.”

Su Yi finally understood. Ultimately, the clash between the Epoch Spark and the Tribulation of the Five Witherings was a competition between the Laws and natural order of two different Epoch Civilizations.

No.

Strictly speaking, the Epoch Spark was a complete source power, while the Tribulation of the Five Witherings was a calamity born of the source power of the present epoch. The tribulation was like the branch of an enormous tree, while the Epoch Spark was like the seed of a new enormous tree.

Although the Epoch Spark had yet to grow into a touring tree, the source power within it was naturally far beyond a mere branch.

Thus, the Epoch Spark could counter the Tribulation of the Five Witherings without difficulty!

Not long after, the Tribulation of the Five Witherings vanished.

The entire area had been laid to ruin, and everything in it had died. Only devastation remained.

Except for Su Yi.

He stood in a true stretch of void, surrounded by ruins and devastation on all sides.

“I suspect the Tribulation of the Five Witherings appeared because it sensed the Epoch Spark,” warned his first incarnation’s heart devil. “In other words, the Tribulation of the Five Witherings has set its sights on you. A moment’s incaution on the road ahead, and it’ll kill you before you even know what hit you.

“The Epoch Spark has yet to grow and transform. Its power is limited, and if you expend too much of its source energies, it’ll become helpless prey for the Tribulation of the Five Witherings to devour.”

Su Yi was stunned. Upon closer inspection, he discovered that the Epoch Spark really had expended a good deal of its power.

“In truth, the Epoch Spark has long since fused with you and your unique path. If you die, the Epoch Spark will no longer have soil to spread its roots in,” said the heart devil. “Similarly, if the Epoch Spark’s source power runs dry, you’ll suffer backlash. It will damage your foundations in the Grand Dao.

“Simply put, your prosperity is its prosperity, and your suffering is its suffering. The reverse is also true. This is the price you must pay.

“And when the Epoch Spark fully fuses into your life source, becoming part of you… No, never mind. That day is still too far away. No need to even bring it up.”

“….” Su Yi had nothing to say to that.

Still, the heart devil’s warnings had deepened his understanding of the Epoch Spark.

After surveying his surroundings and pondering for a while, Su Yi set off once more.

……

Dao-Seeking City.

This was the city Li Fuyou and his friends had built together, as well as Li Fuyou’s base while he explored the Boundless Battlefield.

The city wasn’t large, but it could still hold about one hundred thousand people. Its walls were forged out of all manner of divine material, and the walls connected underground.

They were also covered in all manner of wondrous and taboo killing formations. When the formations circulated at full force, they could stave off even Nine-Tribulation Master Gods.

Of course, this was the Boundless Battlefield. Here, it was the Outsider Celestial Demons they needed to be most on guard against.

Thus, Dao-Seeking City had numerous formations targeting the Celestial Demons.

A slender figure stood on the city walls in robes whiter than snow. Her dark hair fluttered in the wind, and her bearing was ethereal and extraordinary.

Luo Yao.

Li Fuyou’s friend, and one of the pillars of his camp.

Her beauty was dazzling and unparalleled, and her combat strength was similarly extraordinary. During her years fighting on the Boundless Battlefield, she’d slain countless powerful Celestial Demons.

The Dipankara Buddha, Master God Yun He, and their other enemies saw Luo Yao as a major threat, second only to Li Fuyou!

She now stood atop the city walls, her starry eyes gazing into the distance with a hint of worry.

Eight years ago, the Tribulation of the Five Witherings severed the Boundless Barrier and swept across the Boundless Battlefield. The Boundless Battlefield had been plunged into upheaval ever since. Countless experts of the God Domain lost their lives during the cataclysm, their souls scattered.

The Outsider Celestial Demons seized the opportunity to invade, and in just eight short years, they’d occupied much of the Boundless Battlefield, slaughtering and enslaving the experts of the God Domain.

Dao-Seeking City had suffered a heavy blow, too.

Luo Yao and her allies had protected the city for eight years, frequently fighting bathed in blood. They’d suffered heavy casualties.

By now, most of their allies had perished. Just over ten people remained. The rest of those who’d fought shoulder-to-shoulder with Luo Yao had either been killed or imprisoned!

I wonder how long our predicament will drag on… Luo Yao sighed to herself, a look of undisguised exhaustion on her face.

She fought year-round, her allies dying in battle, one after another. All of this came as an immensely heavy blow.

If that were the full extent of it, it might have been tolerable.

The part that really filled her with despair was that Outsider Celestial Demons had thoroughly surrounded the city throughout the past eight years!

Even now, when Luo Yao gazed into the distance, she saw the dense demon hordes stretching as far as the eye could see. There was no end to them!

Over the past eight years, Luo Yao and her allies had tried to break out of the city on numerous occasions.

All such attempts had ended in failure, and they’d suffered heavy casualties every time.

The Outsider Celestial Demon Army had numerous Emperor-Level experts to oversee things. Their forces were enormously vast, and they’d surrounded the city so thoroughly that not even a drop of water could get through. There was no way out!

“Who could have imagined that the Tribulation of the Five Witherings would transform the Boundless Battlefield like this…” murmured Luo Yao, seemingly in a trance.

She wasn’t afraid to die. Even if she were the last woman standing, she’d defend the city on her own and fight until she died in battle.

But there was no avoiding grief.

Especially as she watched her allies die in battle, one after another. There was no suppressing that sadness.

The sound of weeping suddenly emanated from within the city.

Yellow paper money flew into the air, filling the sky.

A black-robed middle-aged man sat there, weeping and burning the paper money in memory of his brothers-in-arms who’d died in battle.

There were numerous memorial tablets on the altar in front of him, each carved with the name of a prominent expert who’d once dazzled the God Domain.

Yet over the past eight years, all of these once famous legends had died in battle!

An old man walked over to the black-robed middle-aged man and shouted, “What’s there to cry about it? It’s just death, that’s all. Ol’ Wen, you’re a Nine-Tribulation Master God famed throughout the four seas, an ancestor-level figure to the God Domain’s sword cultivators. Don’t tell me that even now, you’ve yet to learn equanimity in the face of death?”

The middle-aged man said with bloodshot eyes, “I’m not made of wood. How could I be so unfeeling? Each of these tablets represented someone I once drank and celebrated with, someone who once fought beside me. Now… all of them are dead. How could I possibly accept this?”

As he said that last sentence, his voice transformed into a roar. There was no disguising his grief and agony.

His allies watched in silence. Their hearts were heavy, too.

“Let him cry. Who says that Nine-Tribulation Master Gods cannot weep?” Luo Yao said from the city walls. “But… when you’re done crying, get your emotions under control, and pour that grief into slaughtering our enemies!”

She swept her gaze across her few remaining allies and said calmly, “We’ve fought this long. Even if all of us die in the end, what of it?”

The others nodded.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Suddenly, the beating of war drums emanated from afar, booming throughout heaven and earth. Murderous intent permeating the surroundings.

The drum beats were like the sound of impending doom. Everyone in the city felt their hearts clench, and all of them looked stricken.

“They’re back again!” A thin man in gray-robes said solemnly. He drained his jug of wine, then tossed it to the ground.

“This time, it’s my turn. Don’t argue with me!”

With that, the gray-robed man turned and walked toward the city gates. He was indescribably determined, even impatient, and his footsteps were hurried.

The others watched on, their gazes conflicted. They couldn’t hide the worry on their faces.

Because he wasn’t vying for benefits, but rather, to be the next to risk his life against their enemies!
