First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2297 - For My Son

Chapter 2297 – For My Son

Zang Wushu fought the Severed Heavens Demon Master.

Wan Zitian fought Li Shuiyun.

The Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor fought Yu Xun.

Six long-established peak Nine-Tribulation Master Gods fought an unparalleled grand battle beneath the dome of heaven!

Their battle was so fierce that it startled the Laws of the surrounding area, and a flood of destructive power enveloped the surrounding skies.

As far as the eye could see, the firmament was in chaos, the skies collapsed, and resplendent divine radiance swept outward. The humming of sabers and swords shook the nine heavens.

It was like the descent of the apocalypse.

Although some Nine-Tribulation Master Gods were stronger than others, the difference typically wasn’t stark. Zang Wushu had a solid advantage in his battle with the Severed Heavens Demon Master, but he wouldn’t be able to seize the victory any time soon.

Wan Zitian’s battle with Li Shuiyun was the fiercest. Both of them were sword cultivators with shocking destructive power. Their combat strength would have been enough to astonish any era.

When the two of them collided, sword qi swept throughout ninety thousand miles, terrifying beyond measure.

However, it wasn’t hard to tell that Wan Zitian had the advantage.

Long, long ago, before Yi Daoxuan had even proven his Dao and become a Master God, Wan Zitian was the strongest sword cultivator in the God Domain!

Practically no one could even compare in terms of the Dao of the Sword.

It was only when Yi Daoxuan entered the scene that he started breaking Wan Zitian’s records one by one. In the end, he defeated him!

Although Li Shuiyun’s Dao of the Sword was terrifying, it was ultimately somewhat inferior. Still, there was no way Wan Zitian could kill Li Shuiyun quickly or crisply.

But it was different for the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor. He couldn’t seize the advantage. On the contrary, Yu Xun was suppressing him!

The Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor was no ordinary Nine-Tribulation Master God, but Yu Xun was one of Gu Huaxian’s disciples. His strength was downright perverse, and his powerful abilities left the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor on the passive, struggling just to defend himself.

Su Yi stood in the distance. After surveying the battle briefly, he concluded that their side was sure to win!

However, they had almost no hope of actually killing their opponents. After all, it would be hard to stop them from fleeing for their lives.

But then, Su Yi wasn’t worried about that. Meals had to be eaten one bite at a time, and paths had to be walked one step at a time.

Su Yi had never planned on borrowing his friends’ power to kill all of his past lives’ enemies. That would be too dangerous, and they’d have to pay too great a price.

There wasn’t much he could contribute to a battle of this level. There was no way he’d just watch and reap the benefits as his old friends fought to the death.

He could, in theory, join the current battle, or use external treasures to assist. However, even then, the best they could hope for was victory. It would be all but impossible to kill their enemies.

Thus, Su Yi decided to just avoid the battlefield altogether and head straight for Lu Qingmei.

This instantly drew the combatants’ attention. Both his friends and his enemies were paying attention.

Zang Wushu and the others were worried that Su Yi still had feelings for Lu Qingmei.

Yu Xun and the others were worried that Lu Qingmei still had feelings for Su Yi.

“Senior Apprentice Sister, hurry up and kill him! Do so, and we’ll no longer suspect you of colluding with him!” bellowed Yu Xun.

“Brother Fuyou, the Blue Rose Demon Master is already on the brink of death. With your abilities, finishing her off should be no trouble at all. This is a perfect opportunity! Whatever you do, don’t miss it!” roared the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor.

That’s right. The old-timers of both camps were eager for Su Yi and Lu Qingmei to kill each other!

Su Yi paid them no heed.

Lu Qingmei disregarded them, too. She just stood there quietly as Su Yi approached, her expression shifting and uncertain.

Kcch!

A rusted sword sheath appeared in Su Yi’s grip. He swung it at her.

He didn’t say a single word, nor did he hesitate in the slightest. Even his gaze was calm and indifferent, without the slightest ripple of emotion.

As if he were up against an irreconcilable enemy.

When Lu Qingmei saw this, she felt as if a knife were twisting in her chest. Her heart filled with indescribable grief and agony.

Transcending emotional attachment.

This was originally the Grand Dao she sought.

But now, when she saw Su Yi’s strike, he understood what it really meant to transcend emotional attachments.

In the end, she sighed.

As terrifying as Su Yi’s strike was, it presented little threat to a peak Nine-Tribulation Master Goddess like her. Even injured to the brink of death, she could have broken it with ease.

But she didn’t. Instead, she turned to leave.

Su Yi found this quite surprising. He’d naturally known that even injured, Lu Qingmei was an incomparably dangerous figure.

It would have been no exaggeration to say that so long as a wisp of her soul remained, she’d be too much for him to handle.

Yet now, she was running away from him! She’d just turned and fled without a word!

“Senior Apprentice Sister, what’s the meaning of this!?” Yu Xun cried out in fury. “I understand. You really do have lingering feelings for Yi Daoxuan!”

She’d turned to flee without even trying to fight. Who wouldn’t have been suspicious?

“Brother Fuyou, given your abilities, how could you have let her escape?” The Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor was displeased, too.

Su Yi disregarded them both. He just said, “I’ll give chase. If you can’t finish things here in ten minutes, leave immediately. Whatever you do, don’t linger!”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, Su Yi vanished from view.

“What’s that supposed to mean? Why do we have to finish up within ten minutes?” The Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor frowned.

“Hah! Ten minutes? That’ll depend on whether or not you’re capable of that!” Yu Xun gnashed his teeth. “Old Toad, let me tell you: even if I can’t kill you today, I’ll make you die an unsightly death sooner or later!”

“Ten minutes?” Wan Zitian seemed to realize something. He transmitted to the Heaven-Swallowing Toad and Zang Wushu, “I’m afraid we’re in for unexpected developments. Brother Fuyou wouldn’t have warned us like that otherwise.”

“Then let’s leave in ten minutes!” replied Zang Wushu. He’d always trusted Su Yi’s judgment.

“Before we leave, might you two lend me your strength and help me kill that Yu Xun guy?” the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor transmitted hurriedly.

Yu Xun had suppressed him this entire time, and he had a bellyful of fire.

“Got it!”

“Alright, we’ll keep our eyes open for an opportunity. We’ll teach that Yu Xun a lesson!”

Zang Wushu and Wan Zitian both agreed, much to the Heaven-Swallowing Toad Ancestor’s delight.

As for Su Yi? None of them was the least bit worried.

They didn’t need a reason; this was the trust between old friends.

……

Beneath the dome of heaven.

As Su Yi gave chase, he saw Lu Qingmei standing alone in the distance.

She was badly injured, and her snowy skin was torn and covered in blood. Her robes were stained, and her beautiful black hair was tangled.

Even her stunningly beautiful face was deathly pale.

There was no hiding the severity of her injuries, nor did Lu Qingmei try to hide it.

She stood there quietly, still elegant despite her wounds. It seemed she didn’t want others to see her at her most wretched.

Su Yi stopped when he was still one thousand feet away and said calmly, “Tell me, why did you borrow the Qilin Trading Company’s hands to warn me?”

Lu Qingmei had a complicated look in her eyes. She sighed. “If I said… I was trying to make amends for past misdeeds, would you believe me?”

Su Yi’s gaze was cold and indifferent. He just looked at her and said nothing.

But his silence was an answer in and of itself.

“I knew you wouldn’t believe me.” Lu Qingmei let out a self-deprecating laugh. “You must think I’m using penance as a ruse to regain your trust and ‘glue together a broken mirror.’ Am I right?”

Su Yi took a sip of wine. He didn’t say anything this time, either.

That wasn’t the answer he wanted.

Lu Qingmei sighed. “To tell the truth, I wouldn’t believe excuses or tricks like that either, so I disdain resorting to them.”

This time, Su Yi finally spoke. “We don’t have much time, so don’t waste it.”

Lu Qingmei fell briefly silent, then said, “I don’t want my son… to lose his father.”

It was a short, simple sentence, but it left Su Yi stunned. A figure rose to the forefront of his sea of consciousness.

He wore his hair in a topknot, and his skin was as smooth as jade. He wore long, pristine robes, and his face was handsome, with angular features.

Lu Zhanxuan!

A young man who looked strikingly similar to Yi Daoxuan.

He’d come to Qingwu Divine Court with Lu Qingmei. At the time, Lu Qingmei told him that although Lu Zhanxuan was nominally her “adopted” son, he was, in fact, her own flesh and blood!

And his father was Yi Daoxuan.

It seemed ridiculous. At the time, Su Yi in no way believed it. Even now, he was certain that this was just another of Lu Qingmei’s schemes!

“I’ve already changed his name to Yi Chen.” Lu Qingmei’s gaze softened. “I don’t need him to rise to prominence. I just want him to glow with veiled radiance and intermingle with the dust, quietly and safely.”

Su Yi’s brow furrowed. “Do you really think I’ll believe that?”

Lu Qingmei looked at Su Yi. “I’m sure you’ll believe me once you’ve seen him. He’s just like you were back then. He too has a natural Nine Wonders Sword Meridian!”

Su Yi’s heart shook, and his expression shifted.

A Nine Wonders Sword Meridian!

That was the innate talent of Yi Daoxuan’s lineage, and there was no faking it! Only his descendants could possibly have this power.

If Lu Zhanxuan, or rather, Yi Chen, really had this power, then Lu Qingmei was almost certainly telling the truth!

“I was worried that his bloodline power would come to light, so I used a secret method to seal it away,” sighed Lu Qingmei. “But I knew that I wouldn’t be able to keep it under wraps forever. That’s his natural talent. It’ll awaken sooner or later and become part of his strength.

“Thus, after I met you at Qingwu Divine Court, I sent him away.”

Su Yi’s gaze filled with uncertainty. After a while, he said, “Where is he now?”

He still couldn’t accept this, nor would he just take Lu Qingmei’s word for it.

“A place almost no one but me can find,” said Lu Qingmei. “I can’t tell you where just yet.”

Su Yi’s brow furrowed. “Are you hoping to use him to threaten me?”

Lu Qingmei shook her head. “Your current situation is too precarious. Would you be willing to let your own flesh and blood get swept into your mess?”

Before Su Yi could answer, she continued, “I can’t do it. I refuse to let him get mixed up in any of this!”

She sounded utterly determined.

Su Yi rubbed his forehead. His heart was in disarray.

He’d gained a son out of nowhere. Somehow, he’d bumbled his way into fatherhood. It wasn’t a good feeling at all.

Su Yi shook his head and set the matter aside. He continued, “Your meddling has already come to light. They almost killed you today, and you cannot possibly report to your master, Gu Huaxian, after all this. You’ve paid a grievous price. You weren’t really just worried that your son would lose his father, were you?”
