First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2277 - No One Can Tell Me What to Do

Chapter 2277 – No One Can Tell Me What to Do

A solemn silence had descended over Frigid Peak Mountain.

Everyone was stunned by Cloudy Heights Temple’s announcement of their plan, only for that calm voice to resound out of nowhere. It seemed jarringly out of place.

Whoosh!

All eyes instantly converged on the speaker.

A tall, upright figure was ambling leisurely along the mist-shrouded, bluestone path to the peak. He was dressed in gray, with sallow skin and ordinary features. He looked entirely unassuming.

Everyone was flabbergasted and bewildered. Who is this guy?

Bao Yun’s eyes widened. Ye Mu! How could it be him?

Zhong Xinlan was stunned too, and her heart instantly tensed. What is Fellow Daoist Ye doing?

Over on the jade platform, Abbot Fa Zhen, Skywalking Monk Mo Ye, Grand High Elder Hui Jin, and the other higher-ups frowned. This new arrival wasn’t familiar to any of them, either.

All of them instantly spread out their auras and locked onto this new arrival.

To their astonishment, they quickly realized that the young man was merely a mid-stage Limit Realm expert. That meant he posed no threat whatsoever.

“What do you mean, sir?” Abbot Fa Zhen said coldly.

This was Cloudy Heights Temple, and their Dharma Assembly for Warding Evil was underway. There were numerous prominent guests in the audience.

Fa Zhen found it hard to believe that a Mid-Rank God would dare to cause trouble at a time like this.

Beneath countless eyes, Su Yi strolled over to the edge of the ritual grounds, his hands behind his back.

Then, he looked at Fa Zhen. “If I were you, I’d have brought everyone in Cloudy Heights Temple to the Western Paradise first, then declared war on Su Yi!”

The crowd was stunned, but they quickly realized the implications. He was saying that if they declared war now, they might face retribution before reaching safety. If that happened, they couldn’t possibly rely on the Western Paradise Spirit Mountains helping them!

Abbot Fa Zhen chuckled and said dismissively, “Your concerns are unfounded. When we convened this assembly, neither Su Yi nor his allies had any idea what we were planning!

“Even if he finds out immediately and rushes over, we’ll have already left the Southern Flame Divine Continent!”

He spoke with the utmost confidence. It was obvious to the crowd that the temple had been prepared for this a long time ago. Fa Zhen wouldn’t have dared to say this if he weren’t confident that Su Yi couldn’t possibly come for them today!

“They have no idea, huh?” Su Yi laughed. “I still don’t understand. Even if you’re confident that Su Yi won’t show up at this assembly, why not wait until you reach the Western Paradise Spirit Mountains to make this announcement?”

“Is that necessary?” Fa Zhen said coldly. “No need to hide it from everyone. The moment Su Yi appeared in the far western territory, Cloudy Heights Divine Temple would know about it, but… even now, there’s been no sign of that heretic!”

With that, Fa Zhen stared at the distant Su Yi, his eyes flashing like lightning, and said coldly, “Do you still think our plan is foolish?”

The atmosphere was instantly stifled. It would have been obvious to anyone that Fa Zhen was displeased with the young man who’d shown up out of nowhere.

Zhong Xinlan’s heart silently tensed. She recalled parting ways with Ye Mu the night before, and how he’d told her to pretend not to recognize him if she saw him at the assembly. He said that if she acknowledged him, it would only cause trouble for her.

At the time, Zhong Xinlan hadn’t understood what kind of trouble he was worried about. Now, she was finally starting to get it. It seems… that Ye Mu is hostile to Cloudy Heights Temple!

But she couldn’t figure out why he’d do this; it just seemed insane. She couldn’t help but be nervous.

Bao Yun, meanwhile, grumbled to herself, Ye Mu is making a fool out of himself in front of the crowd. He’s totally overestimating himself. It’s ridiculous!

Doesn’t he see all the prominent experts here? Who among them would dare call Cloudy Heights Temple’s plan stupid to their face? Where does he get the courage?

But against all expectations, Su Yi continued, “It really is foolish, but then, words are empty. If you don’t believe me, I’ll just have to prove it to you.”

Uproar ensued. Even the prominent attendees could tell that this unfamiliar youth had come with ill intentions.

But this was just too surprising. Who is he, and why is he publicly opposing Cloudy Heights Temple?

Isn’t he afraid to die!?

“Is that so? I’d actually quite like to see just how you plan to ‘prove’ it,” Fa Zhen said gravely. “If you can’t give me an acceptable answer, it’ll mean you’re just causing trouble, and I won’t let you off lightly!”

Every word boomed throughout heaven and earth. Everyone could sense murderous intent bearing down on them.

But Su Yi just laughed and slipped a talisman out of his sleeve.

Kcch!

It took to the skies, and a curtain of light appeared.

All eyes were instantly upon it. They quickly discovered that it too reflected the grand hall of the Immortal Realm’s Academy of Eternal Night.

It even showed the palace from the same angle.

However, this curtain of light differed in two major ways.

First, it was Abbot Fa Zhen who’d displayed the earlier curtain of light. This one was the work of the young man in gray.

Second, although the building reflected in the curtain hadn’t changed, the people had. The figures standing beside Ning Xiu had all been reduced to a pile of still-bleeding heads.

All of them were piled on the stone steps leading to the main hall.

Some had eyes wide with fury. Others looked hideously contorted with agony or terror. Still others were visibly overcome with despair.

Only Ning Xiu still stood outside the main hall, but her face was deathly pale as she gripped her Mystery of Chaos, the Yin-Yang Diagram, with all her might.

This bloody scene shook the hearts of everyone present. All of them looked stricken.

“How is this possible?” a Cloudy Heights Temple higher-up cried out in shock and anger.

Abbot Fa Zhen, Mo Ye, Hui Jin, and the others looked flabbergasted, too. There was no doubt about it. None of them had anticipated this development!

A deathly silence fell over the area as the crowd realized that Cloudy Heights Temple’s plans had gone seriously wrong!

He… He… don’t tell me he’s working for Sword God Su? Bao Yun looked on in a daze, her mind blank.

Earlier, she’d thought that Ye Mu was overestimating himself and making a fool out of himself in front of the crowd.

Now, she suddenly realized that she’d guessed wrong. Rather, she’d misjudged this seemingly unassuming young man right from the start!

Zhong Xinlan’s jade-like hands silently clenched. Ye Mu really is targeting Cloudy Heights Temple!

It was amidst this tense silence that Su Yi put away the talisman. The curtain of light vanished with it.

Then, he asked coldly, “Is this talisman sufficient proof of your plan’s foolishness? Was that enough to satisfy you?”

Abbot Fa Zhen’s eyes flashed with imposing light. “Did you do that?”

Su Yi shook his head. “I’m not that capable.”

He really hadn’t done that. Rather, he’d borrowed the Qilin Trading Company’s forces. They’d gone on a mission to the Immortal Realm on his behalf ten days prior.

They’d completed it not long before Su Yi met Zhong Xinlan and boarded her tower ship.

By then, everyone Cloudy Heights Temple had sent to the Immortal Realm had already been executed!

All of Su Yi’s friends and allies in the Immortal Realm were alive and well, without a single casualty.

The forces of the Qilin Trading Company had already settled everything. His friends were no longer even at risk.

Su Yi had even borrowed the Qilin Trading Company’s power to make contact with the River Lord in the River of Epochs. He’d personally taken a trip to the Immortal Realm to watch over Su Yi’s loved ones.

All of this was to forestall future problems and ensure that nothing like this ever happened again!

“Then who sent you here?” Fa Zhen said icily. He’d thoroughly locked onto Su Yi.

Cloudy Heights Temple had planned this operation years in advance, all for the sake of seizing Su Yi’s weak points. They’d used Ning Xiu as a pawn to infiltrate the Immortal Realm.

They’d thought this Dharma Assembly of Warding Evil would be when they pulled in the net and declared war on Su Yi.

Who could have imagined that this would happen before the ceremony even ended? Their plan had been completely ruined!

How could they not be angry?

“I came of my own accord,” Su Yi said with a laugh. “No one in this world can tell me what to do.”

He stood there alone, but he’d long since become the center of attention.

When they saw him standing in the middle of the temple with no fear of its Master Gods, many of the prominent attendees’ hearts shook with astonishment.

“No one can tell you what to do?” Fa Zhen’s Buddhist robes billowed as his presence grew fierce and terrifying. “If you don’t give us a clear answer, I’ll personally make sure you never leave this place alive!”

Su Yi said airily, “I didn’t plan to leave before flattening this place anyway.”

Flattening this place? He wants to destroy Cloudy Heights Temple!? The crowd exchanged astonished glances. Even if you’d hit them over the head, they would never have guessed that this unassuming Mid-Rank God would dare to say such a thing.

Zhong Xinlan was stunned, too. Her heart shook.

As for Bao Yun… She’d long since been struck dumb. She just felt like this Ye Mu was far too unfamiliar, like a completely different person than the man she’d known!

“The boy really is here to cause trouble! Abbot, seems to me we’d best capture him before we do anything else!” said the Skywalking Monk, Mo Ye. He looked like an enraged Buddha, and his whole body emanated endless divine majesty.

Boom!

The sky trembled as a wave of murderous intent swept forth.

All of the onlookers rose and moved further away. It was obvious to all of them that this didn’t bode well! The ritual grounds were instantly empty save for Su Yi.

But it was as if he didn’t even notice, or as if he were the only person here. He wasn’t afraid of anything. It was like the gods weren’t even there!

Perhaps because he seemed overly calm, Abbot Fa Zhen sensed that something was amiss. He said gravely, “Martial Uncle Mo Ye, I think there’s a high chance that boy is none other than Su Yi!”

Everyone was stunned. Su Yi!? Don’t tell me that unassuming young man is really Su Yi in disguise?

“Impossible!” Mo Ye said staunchly. “If he were Su Yi, I’d have realized it immediately. How could he possibly have snuck into Cloudy Heights Temple? If you don’t believe me, I’ll just have to show you!”

With that, he swung his sleeve.

Clang!

A saber appeared out of nowhere.

Its blade was pitch-black, and its edge was dark, without the slightest luster.

But when it appeared, terrifying, tyrannical murderous intent swept forth like an avalanche, sweeping outward in all directions.

The saber hummed as if enraged as it emanated waves of saber force.

Everyone felt a prickling pain all over their skin, and their hearts shook.

What a fierce, terrifying weapon!
