First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2263 - Waves on the River of Destiny

Chapter 2263 – Waves on the River of Destiny

Su Yi’s unfettered laughter echoed throughout the chaotic battlefield.

He suddenly broke free of the powerful enemies surrounding him on all sides, then shot into the sky in a perfectly straight line.

Clang!

The Sword of Proximity vanished from Su Yi’s grip, and a mysterious, terrifying Dao Sword appeared in its place.

The Sword of the Nine Hells!!

Unsurpassed sword force swept throughout the surrounding area. Heaven and earth contorted and collapsed around it.

The dense tribulation clouds brewing beneath the dome of heaven suddenly churned as if startled.

The arrival of this grand tribulation was already a shock to the strange inhabitants of this place. When Su Yi drew the Sword of the Nine Hells, they broke down completely. All of their flesh and blood fled their bones and vanished into the sky.

All that remained were various bones strewn across the ground, just like before.

The rotting flesh that had fallen from that withered tree had been the key to the strange lifeforms’ resurrection. Now that their flesh and blood had fled, they returned to their original shapes.

Boom!

Tribulation clouds surged beneath the dome of heaven, shining with tribulation light. That terrifying, calamitous power even severely impacted the source Laws of the Extreme Lightning Demon Cave.

The natural order of the entire forbidden zone collapsed. Countless strange lifeforms were destroyed, unable to bear that terrifying, calamitous power!

A terrified shriek resounded from the mountainside. “Last time Li Fuyou was here, he killed until heads rolled across the ground, and no one dared refuse to submit. Don’t tell me… he wants to destroy the place completely this time?”

The ancient wraiths sealed here were completely terrified. All of them were ill at ease.

Vengeful spirits like them feared and dreaded nothing more than the imposing might of heaven.

The grand, calamitous tribulation Su Yi had invited was terrifying beyond imagination. It was far more terrifying than the tribulations of even Master Gods!

Meanwhile——

Su Yi rose into the heavens, gripping the Sword of the Nine Hells and charging into the depths of the tribulation clouds!

It was just like when he’d first proven his Dao and achieved divinity.

The Sword of the Nine Hells awakened from its long dormancy, and its clanging hums resounded throughout the nine heavens. As Su Yi swung his sword and attacked, he cleaved open startling rifts in the tribulation clouds.

Who knew how much tribulation light was destroyed before it could even reveal its power?

Kaboom!

Meanwhile, Su Yi faced an onslaught of destructive power. The tribulation clouds were just too boundlessly vast, and the tribulation light was like an endless ocean. When he attacked it, there was no avoiding an explosive, terrifying impact.

Within just a few blinks of an eye, Su Yi’s physical body was torn to ribbons. Even his soul was badly damaged; only a wisp of it remained!

The sight scared Feng Wuji so badly that he broke out in cold sweats. He almost thought that Su Yi had failed and died mid-tribulation.

But he quickly realized that something was amiss.

Su Yi’s physical body and soul had both been destroyed, but his essence, qi, and spirit remained, and they were still directing the Sword of the Nine Hells in fierce combat against the tribulation light.

With every slash, a stretch of tribulation clouds caved in, and countless streaks of tribulation light scattered.

“How could this be a Creation Realm Divine Tribulation? It’s more terrifying than even an Undying Realm Divine Tribulation!” Feng Wuji exclaimed in a daze.

The Limit Realm referred to the limit of mastery, and its experts were known as Mid-Rank Gods.

When gods broke into this realm, they had to face a terrifying divine tribulation: the Divine Flame Disaster of the Three Disasters, and the Heart-Questioning and Six Desires Adversities.

In other words, just reaching the Limit Realm required facing one Disaster and two Adversities!

But the tribulation Su Yi now faced was far, far beyond the Disasters and Adversities others faced when breaking into the Limit Realm. It was too sinister, too taboo, and too perverse!

All of this was far beyond the bounds of Feng Wuji’s understanding. His mind buzzed and went blank.

Meanwhile, although no one sensed it, deep within the dome of heaven, across an endless expanse of time and space, the mysterious River of Destiny coursed past.

No one knew where it began, and no one knew where it ended. Because it lacked both beginning and end, it existed in perpetuity!

“How long has it been? That heretic is breaking through again!”

“Last time was in the Path of the Ancient Gods. We let him successfully achieve divinity then. No matter what, we can’t let him succeed this time!”

“Fellow Daoist Di E!”

“I’m here.”

…One figure after another appeared on the shores of the River of Destiny, all of them grand, holy, and mysterious.

That little girl who was really a manifestation of the natural order stood among them.

The seemingly youthful Di E flew over from afar and stood amongst them. It was just that this time, his eyes were uncovered, and his presence was extraordinarily terrifying.

“Not long ago, you let that heretic escape. No matter what, we can’t let him escape this time!”

“Can you tell where the heretic is undergoing tribulation?” someone else asked gravely.

Mysterious, inscrutable, dark talisman markings surfaced in Di E’s gaze, and he peered across that endless expanse of time and space.

But then, a towering wave arose on the River of Destiny, and terrifying murderous intent swept forth. The entire River of Destiny shook violently.

This sudden, unexpected development startled those mysterious figures, causing a commotion in their ranks.

Di E reacted even more strongly. He looked stricken, and chills coursed through his entire body. Without the slightest hesitation, he moved further away.

It was then that everyone saw what had happened clearly. A thin, amiable-looking old man with an otherworldly air floated over the River of Destiny.

“It’s you!”

The mysterious entities gathered there were astonished; all of them recognized the old man at a glance. He’d appeared in the Path of the Ancient Gods, too, helping Su Yi when he broke through and achieved divinity.

It was this very old man who’d foiled their attempts to interfere with Su Yi’s breakthrough. It was also his fault that they’d missed their opportunity to seize Su Yi’s Dao Fruit!

When the old man appeared again, the mysterious entities gathered there were astonished to discover that his cultivation was so high as to create waves on the surface of the River of Destiny! Moreover, he didn’t seem affected by the river at all!

Just what kind of existence was this? How could he explore the River of Destiny at whim?

“Everyone, you’ve all already stepped onto the River of Destiny and established immeasurable, Eternal Daos. Why must you get involved in this?” The old man on the River of Destiny Sighed. “Didn’t you learn anything last time?”

“The return of reincarnation is sure to bring disaster. The natural order of the past, present, and future will collapse, and the onset of the Dark Days of Legend is sure to influence the direction of the River of Destiny. How could we disregard that?” someone said icily. “If we don’t snuff reincarnation… we won’t be able to eat or sleep in peace!”

The gaunt old man shook his head. “I know exactly what you people are after. You’re not trying to ‘snuff out’ reincarnation. You want to seize Fellow Daoist Su’s Dao Fruit for yourselves.”

He then calmly swept his gaze over those mysterious existences and said, “Now that I’m here, you’d best give up.”

“Do you really think you can single-handedly hold all of us back?” the little girl manifested of the natural order said coldly.

The old man gazed intently at her. “Yes.”

He’d only just said this when he waved his sleeve through the air.

Boom!!

The surface of the River of Destiny churned with waves, and countless mysterious, resplendent powers of the Laws suddenly erupted, like floods of the natural order bursting from the deepest depths of time and space.

Startled cries rang out.

The mysterious entities gathered there all moved further away, fleeing further down the River of Destiny.

Boom!

The waves churned, followed by another series of startled cries. The mysterious figures were all enveloped in mist. Then, they vanished without a trace.

Di E stood further away, his expression grimmer than ever before.

He wasn’t of the River of Destiny, so he wasn’t affected.

Still, seeing all those mysterious existences sent packing with a swing of the old man’s arm made Di E’s heart quiver with fright.

“Those in the River of Destiny belong to it. None can overstep,” said the old man, gazing at the distant Di E. His gaze was rife with meaning. “You’ve taken but half a step onto the River of Destiny. You’re unable to advance or retreat. That half-step onto the River of Destiny… has hurt you.”

Di E’s expression shifted erratically, but in the end, he just said flatly, “I’ve always believed that nothing is absolute, and that the will of man can triumph over the heavens!”

The old man laughed. “As nice as that sounds, those words will do you no good.”

“So long as I’m here, you cannot kill him.” The little girl suddenly returned, standing on one of the waves in the River of Destiny.

The old man’s gaze focused. Then, he laughed. “He’s got one foot in the heavens, the other on the earth. It’s as if his heart is suspended in midair; there’s no need for me to do anything. He’ll inevitably run into problems in his cultivation.”

“With my help, his future accomplishments will be higher than the heavens and deeper than the earth!” the little girl said calmly. Her young, innocent face was utterly calm and indifferent.

The thin old man pondered briefly. “I understand. So, you’ve decided to use him to bring order to the world. Very well. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens when the Dark Days of Legend are upon us!”

Boom!

The gaunt old man swung his sleeve, and the waves churned. The river reflected from across an endless expanse of time and space shifted violently.

The little girl’s pupils constricted, and she cried out, “What are you doing!?”

Countless resplendent silver arcs of the light of the natural order surged from her tiny body, forming divine rings that held part of the River of Destiny in place.

The old man laughed gently. “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Similarly, those of the River of Destiny return to the River of Destiny. You cannot possibly intervene in the God Domain’s affairs as you please.”

With that, he took a step forward.

Kaboom!

The reflected stretch of the River of Destiny popped like soap bubbles and vanished into endlessly distant time and space.

The little girl and the gaunt old man vanished too.

Only the old man’s grand yet ethereal voice lingered, still echoing throughout the depths of time and space.

“Between now and the onset of the Dark Days of Legend, you people can forget about interfering with Fellow Daoist Su’s tribulations any further!”

Di E stood in the distance all alone. He looked around, but he could no longer see any sign of the River of Destiny whatsoever.

After a moment’s silence, he turned and gazed back down at the God Domain.

Only to realize that there was no longer any trace of that calamitous grand tribulation left.

“We let you break through again!?” Di E pursed his lips, then sighed. He knew that using this method to defeat Su Yi was no longer feasible.

Just… What kind of terrifying existence is that old man, anyway? A portion of the River of Destiny manifested, yet he single-handedly forced it back into hiding!

Di E pondered in silence for a while before turning and leaving.
