Chapter 2255 - Accepting a Mission for the Sect

Chapter 2255 – Accepting a Mission for the Sect

Dense murderous intent permeated the air.

Any other Lesser God would have been intimidated and overcome with horror, but not Su Yi.

Liang Lingxu was just a One-Tribulation Master God. If things really got violent, Su Yi could kill him instantly.

But he did nothing of the sort. He still needed to hide his identity in Qingwu Divine Court.

“I can tell you’ve misunderstood me, Sect Leader,” sighed Su Yi. “I have nothing to say in my defense. If you want to attack me, go right ahead and kill me.”

With that, he stood there in silence, his gaze averted, as if he’d decided to submit quietly to his fate.

Liang Lingxu glowered, his gaze horrifying. “Do you really think I wouldn’t dare to kill you?”

Su Yi said nothing. He couldn’t be bothered to argue.

But his silence only made Liang Lingxu’s expression even darker. He glared at Su Yi as if trying to see through all of his secrets.

Time slipped by. The two of them just stood there, looking at each other in silence. The atmosphere couldn’t have been any more stifled.

In the end, Su Yi just sighed. “If there’s nothing else, this junior will be on his way.”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the hall, he turned to leave, completely disregarding Liang Lingxu’s murderous gaze.

Throughout this process, veins bulged on Liang Lingxu’s forehead. He was obviously completely enraged.

“Please open the door and permit me to leave, Sect Leader,” said Su Yi. He stood before the tightly shut door, his back to Liang Lingxu. He didn’t even turn to look at him.

Liang Lingxu’s fingers quivered, and murderous intent surged within his heart. For a moment, he really did feel the impulse to kill Xiao Jian on the spot!

It had been one disaster after another since Xiao Jian joined the sect. Liang Lingxu was now incomparably confident that there was something seriously wrong with Xiao Jian!

Killing him now would unquestionably remove a latent threat.

But in the end, he held back.

Xiao Jian’s life was of little importance, but the grand elder would unquestionably seize the opportunity to make things difficult for him, and he’d inevitably offend Second High Elder Bai Liyin, too!

If he cast aside all pretenses of cordiality, the sect would descend into internal conflict. If that happened, his master, Ancestor Hua Hongzhen, wouldn’t let him off lightly.

Boom!

The door opened.

“Xiao Jian, you’d best not let me discover any evidence of wrongdoing!” Liang Lingxu’s cold, cruel voice boomed throughout the hall.

Su Yi laughed, then turned to leave the Clear Sky Divine Palace without a word.

Liang Lingxu wasn’t sure when they’d gotten there, but Grand Elder Wei Zhong, Tie Wenjing, and several others were waiting for Xiao Jian outside.

When they saw him emerge safely, they visibly relaxed.

Liang Lingxu, meanwhile, glowered. His gaze was increasingly icy.

……

Spirit Bamboo Peak.

When Su Yi returned to that familiar bamboo tower, he completely relaxed.

He’d just refused the grand and ninth elders’ offer of a drink. He wanted to relax on his own.

Liang Lingxu’s threats meant nothing to him whatsoever.

I ought to take this time to prepare for my next breakthrough. Su Yi leaned back in a bamboo chair, taking sips of wine as he pondered the next steps of his cultivation.

After the curtains fell on the battle of Skybright Mountain, widespread chaos in the God Domain was inevitable.

But that no longer had anything to do with him.

He planned to continue lying low under the name “Xiao Jian.” Meanwhile, he’d raise his cultivation as soon as possible.

Su Yi felt a sense of urgency, especially after learning about Dao Lord Lu Shi’s involvement and seeing that “little girl.”

Less than thirty years remained until the onset of the Dark Days of Legend.

It was just as the River Lord said. He needed to achieve Undying Realm cultivation before the Dark Days of Legend arrived.

Time was short!

If all he did was cultivate bitterly in seclusion, breaking from the Creation Realm and passing through the Limit and Fortune Realms to reach the Undying Realm would be nothing but the ravings of a madman!

Take now, for instance. All Su Yi needed was the right opportunity, and he’d be able to break smoothly into the Limit Realm.

However, the opportunity he needed was far too difficult to find. He had to go out and hunt it, not just wait around.

And before he broke through, he needed to take some time to settle his accumulations and prepare.

As for Qingwu Divine Court’s trivial affairs? Su Yi couldn’t be bothered to pay them any heed.

……

Half a month later, Su Yi left Spirit Bamboo Peak and arrived at Celestial Treasure Palace.

Palace Master Ji Chuan walked up to greet him with a smile. “Welcome, Vice Palace Master Xiao. Forgive me for not going out to welcome you.”

Su Yi smiled and nodded. He still remembered the last time he’d come here with Tie Wenjing to exchange merit for treasure. Ji Chuan had been extremely arrogant.

He even said that if Xiao Jian thought he could exchange merit for a promotion, he was dreaming.

At the time, Su Yi didn’t argue.

But now, just a few months had passed, and Su Yi was already the vice palace master of Wandering Night Palace.

Moreover, everyone in the sect knew that Grand Elder Wei Zhong thought incomparably highly of Xiao Jian. Thus, Palace Master Ji Chuan’s attitude had changed completely.

“What are you here for, Vice Palace Master?” Ji Chuan asked with a smile.

Su Yi said casually, “I’m here to see if the sect has any missions suitable for me.”

“A trivial matter. Please, come with me.” Ji Chuan promptly led Su Yi to the place where the sect posted its missions.

“All of these are suitable for you,” said Ji Chuan, gesturing to one of the walls. A mirror hung from the wall, its frame carved out of divine jade and its surface flowing with divine radiance. All manner of missions appeared on its surface.

Su Yi scanned the missions, then said, “Are there any missions that involve exploring forbidden zones?”

“There are!” Ji Chuan pointed to the mirror. “Have a look, Vice Palace Master Xiao. There aren’t many missions involving forbidden zones. Currently, there are only six. This is because such missions are too dangerous, and few people are willing to accept them.”

Su Yi scanned the missions. Suddenly, his gaze landed on one of the missions. “Helping the ancient Feng Family investigate the Extreme Lightning Demon Cave?”

Ji Chuan hurriedly tried to dissuade him. “Vice Palace Master Xiao, whatever you do, don’t choose that one! This is common knowledge by now, but over the past half year, the Feng Family’s Rahu Yao Ancestor has been trapped in the Extreme Lightning Demon Cave, badly injured. No one knows if he’s alive or dead.

“Thus, this mission involves locating the Rahu Yao Ancestor!

“Of late, the Feng Family has sent numerous experts to investigate the Extreme Lightning Demon Cave, but most died in the attempt. Even those who survived returned empty-handed.”

Ji Chuan paused, then continued, “They say that the Feng Family has already lost numerous older-generation yao gods in an attempt to find the Rahu Yao Ancestor, including one Greater God!”

Su Yi couldn’t help but find this strange. “That’s the Feng Family’s problem. Why has it become one of Qingwu Divine Court’s missions?”

“Simple,” said Ji Chuan. “The ancient Feng Family asked us for help. They hoped that we could help them through our mission system, and that one of our experts might successfully locate the Rahu Yao Ancestor.

“Actually, it’s not just us. They made similar requests to just about every top faction of the Southern Flame Divine Continent.”

Ji Chuan sighed. “How could they have done such a thing if they had any other choice?”

Su Yi couldn’t help but sink into thought.

During his first trip to the Spring and Autumn City branch of the Qilin Trading Company, he encountered Feng Wuji at their tiny private auction.

Feng Wuji had been after a map of the Extreme Lightning Demon Cave. Naturally, he hoped to use it to find his grandfather, the Rahu Yao Ancestor.

It was then that Su Yi, still under the guise of Xiao Jian, decided to help Feng Wuji out by giving him a map of the cave.

He hadn’t considered that the Feng Family might fail to find the Rahu Yao Ancestor even after all this time.

When he saw Su Yi sink into silence, Ji Chuan couldn’t help but say, “Vice Palace Master Xiao, surely you aren’t interested in this mission, right?”

“I am,” said Su Yi. “I’ll take this mission.”

Ji Chuan gasped. “Vice Palace Master, please, consider carefully. This mission will lead to almost certain doom…”

But Su Yi laughed and interrupted him before he could finish. “I want this one.”

When Su Yi left the Celestial Treasure Palace, he had a new talisman. With it, he could proceed to the Feng Family estate, then to the Extreme Lightning Demon Cave in accordance with their arrangements.

That aside, if he succeeded in completing this mission, he wouldn’t just receive a reward from Qingwu Divine Court. The Feng Family would generously reward him, too.

They were offering a full three thousand Undying Divine Crystals!

Of course, Su Yi wasn’t interested in the reward, nor was he hoping to help Feng Wuji save the Rahu Yao Ancestor. On the contrary, should the right opportunity arise, he wouldn’t mind ensuring that the Rahu Yao Ancestor died in the Extreme Lightning Demon Cave.

After all, the Rahu Yao Ancestor was one of his past life’s greatest enemies!

In truth, Su Yi accepted this mission simply so that he had a legitimate reason to leave the sect. That way, no one would suspect him of wrongdoing.

His true goal was to break through!

He’d already made ample preparations. All he needed now was the right opportunity, and he’d be able to break into the Limit Realm and become a Mid-Rank God.

The Extreme Lightning Demon Cave was just the kind of place to find the opportunity he needed!

“Vice Palace Master Xiao, you have to be careful!” Ji Chuan warned him repeatedly as he left; he was obviously uneasy.

Su Yi just laughed, waved, and floated off.

That very day, Su Yi informed Tie Wenjing, the new palace master, of his departure, then left the sect.

This was the advantage of having connections. Had Ku Zhen still been in charge of Wandering Night Palace, he would never have agreed to let Su Yi leave alone so easily.

Not long after Su Yi left, word reached Sect Leader Liang Lingxu.

Clear Sky Divine Palace.

“Xiao Jian behaved himself for just one month. He already can’t resist the urge to leave the sect?” Liang Lingxu snorted coldly.

Several other elders accompanied him, all of them members of his camp.

“Xiao Jian is seriously going to the Extreme Lightning Demon Cave? He’s simply sick of living!”

“Perhaps he’s not really going on a mission. This might just be an excuse to do something else entirely.”

…The elders were all discussing the matter.

Sect Leader Liang Lingxu, however, said directly, “I can say with certainty that Xiao Jian was involved in the third elder and high elder Yuan Shan’s deaths! Don’t you think this is the perfect chance to expose Xiao Jian for who he really is?”

The crowd was stunned. All of them realized that Sect Leader Liang Lingxu could no longer hold back. He was targeting Xiao Jian!

But before they could respond, Liang Lingxu said gravely, “Everyone, who among you is willing to step forth and do this for me?”

The crowd exchanged glances.

Time slipped by, but no one responded.

Liang Lingxu’s expression gradually darkened. He was the sect leader, and he’d personally issued these orders, yet no one was willing to step forth and accept them.

How could he not be furious?
