Chapter 2239 - A Move Outside the Chessboard
Chapter 2239 – A Move Outside the Chessboard
Qi Wei transmitted in shock, “Wan Zitian is actually still alive!?”
“It really is unexpected,” said Li Sanjiu. “After he lost to Yi Daoxuan, he lost himself to obsession, burning his Undying body and soul. Many other Master Gods were there to witness it. Who’d have believed that he… was still alive!?”
Qi Wei’s heart shook, but she could vaguely guess what had happened. Wan Zitian lost himself to obsession because he lost to Yi Daoxuan. I’m sure Yi Daoxuan was involved in his survival, too!
That’s the only way to explain this!
“Wan Zitian is such a powerful card, yet he’s using him purely to target Endless Transformations Divine Mountain. Isn’t that a bit of a waste?” said Qi Wei. “If Wan Zitian were here, wouldn’t he scare those old-timers out of their wits?”
Meanwhile, on that unassuming little hillock.
“To think Wan Zitian was still alive! This hidden card of his was truly unexpected,” sighed the old man.
The young man whose eyes were obscured by a black cloth said calmly, “No matter how unexpected it might be, it won’t change the outcome.”
The old man laughed. “But I’m increasingly eager to see what happens next.”
……
The Tree of All Worlds hovered before Skybright Mountain, its roots extending into the void and its branches swaying.
As the crowd looked on in astonishment, an infuriated roar rang out. “You bastard! How dare you send Ol’ Devil Purple Heavens to attack my home base!”
The voice belonged to Master God Tian Huang!
As his voice rang out, he shot through the air and appeared on the battlefield, hair and beard bristling with anger. He was completely beside himself with fury.
“That was all it took to get you to come out into the open?” Su Yi’s eyes glinted with mockery. “It’s already happened. Losing your temper will only make you seem inept.”
“You…” Master God Tian Huang pointed at Su Yi, his whole body erupting with murderous intent. “I’ll kill you on the spot!”
Su Yi said calmly, “Going first will make you a target. If you want to become the first to die in this chess game of ours, go right ahead and attack me. I trust that the others would be delighted to let you test my limits.”
Master God Tian Huang’s smile stiffened, and his expression shifted erratically. It was true! No one wanted to act lightly at this stage, and the others really would love nothing more than for him to test the limits of Su Yi’s abilities!
“Daoist Brother, you needn’t pay him any heed,” said Master God Yun He. “I’d like to see just how many other little tricks he can play.”
Master God Tian Huang nodded. He’d already calmed back down.
Su Yi smiled and snapped his fingers. The Tree of All Worlds instantly displayed another massive curtain of light.
It reflected an ancient palace shrouded in a seal of clouds. It was built on the peak of a mountain, and it had a holy air about it.
“That’s Cloud Soaring Divine Palace! That’s the center of the Southern Flame Divine Continent’s Severed Heavens Demon Court!” someone cried out.
The crowd was in uproar. Don’t tell me that Su Yi arranged for an expert to attack the Severed Heavens Demon Court?
Indeed, just as they expected, a moment later, Su Yi said, “Attack!”
This time, his tone suggested he was issuing orders.
A cold, raspy voice emanated from beyond the curtain of light. “I shall assiduously carry out your orders, Your Excellency!”
A moment later, everyone watched in horror as tens of thousands of blood-red figures appeared within the endless sea of clouds reflected on the curtain of light.
All of them looked like malevolent ghosts climbing out of an ocean of blood. They brought with them monstrous, bloody, baleful qi, and all of them shot toward the distant Cloudsoaring Divine Palace.
The leader of the group was a man bathed in one hundred thousand feet of blood-red lightning of the natural order. He had a pair of blood-red wings, and a single horn grew from his forehead.
His eyes were like pools of blood, and he was fully ten thousand feet tall. When his wings unfurled, they revealed countless strange, blood-red eyes. They were terrifying and imposing.
“Get them!” The one-horned, blood-winged man roared, his murderous intent shaking the heavens.
Moments later, the scene scattered into a rain of light, and the curtain of light vanished without a trace.
The Master Gods watching from afar looked on with undisguisable astonishment.
That blood-winged man was the progenitor of the Eastern Victory Divine Continent’s Blood Rakshasa Race. They called him Ancestor Blood Lake!
The Blood Rakshasa Race was unique. Although they were from the Eastern Victory Divine Province, the whole race lived in a hidden realm known as the Lake of Blood. They seldom ventured into the outside world.
Ancestor Blood Lake was the most famous Nine-Tribulation Master God of the Blood Rakshasa Race, a true, unparalleled god of slaughter.
A long time ago, he’d waged war on the Boundless Battlefield, slaughtering numerous gods and buddhas. The factions of the God Domain had viewed him with enmity ever since, and several top factions joined forces to hunt him down. He’d gone into hiding ever since. It was as if he’d vanished from this world completely.
Back then, there’d even been rumors that Ancestor Blood Lake had died in the Boundless Battlefield.
No one could have imagined that Ancestor Blood Lake would appear today, just like Wan Zitian. Moreover, he’d led an army of tens of thousands of warriors into battle with the Severed Heavens Demon Court!
This development sent chills coursing through many of the Master Gods’ hearts. They couldn’t help but picture something similar happening to their factions. What would they do then?
“Su Yi! You’re far too despicable!” A thunderous roar rang out, and the Severed Heavens Demon Master came out of hiding.
When Master God Tian Huang saw this, he couldn’t help but feel the sympathy of a fellow sufferer.
The two of them had originally hidden themselves nearby. Their plan was to watch the spectacle, then seize an opportunity to loot a burning house.
Who could have imagined that in the blink of an eye, catastrophe would befall their factions of origin?
How could they not be frantic? How could they not be furious?
“You two ought to understand my character. Both in this life and in my past lives, I’ve never been the type to implicate the innocent,” Su Yi said calmly. “But this time, you’ve crossed the line!
“Since you’ve used the Xi Family to set a trap, I’ll just have to give a tooth for a tooth and show you what it means to use every means at your disposal!”
With that, he snapped his fingers once more.
That familiar light curtain returned, this time, it reflected an altogether different scene: an enormous lake dotted with islands.
A fierce battle raged over the lake. Firelight swept outward, the stench of blood permeated the air, and the sounds of combat shook the heavens.
A man in silver armor gripped a blood-red spear as he fought, sending heads rolling and killing until the blood flowed like a river.
“Spear Demon Zang Wushu!” someone cried out in shock. “That god of slaughter who vanished hundreds of thousands of years ago is still alive?”
Zang Wushu’s name alone was enough to strike terror into the hearts of gods. His Blood River Spear had slain countless enemies and created countless vengeful ghosts!
Now, here he was, fighting alone, yet creating a startling storm of blood!
“Su Yi! Damn you!” An infuriated roar rang out.
The speaker was another of the Nine-Tribulation Master Gods. His name was Jin Keshui, and he was from the Blood River Sword Court. He’d come here with Shao Yunke.
It was their sect that Zang Wushu was currently attacking!
“A long time ago, Zang Wushu told me that your sect’s name offended his Blood River Spear. It was highly considerate of me to ask him to deal with you,” Su Yi explained with a smile.
“You…” Jin Keshui’s eyes were instantly bloodshot, and he gnashed his teeth so hard they almost broke.
By now, the situation had changed completely.
Admittedly, Su Yi had come here alone, but these three visions he’d displayed had shocked the crown repeatedly.
Everyone finally realized that long before the battle began, Su Yi had arranged countermeasures. He’d planned retribution against all of the top factions involved!
The Purple Heavens Sword Master, Wan Zitian, was attacking the Endless Transformations Divine Mountain.
Ancestor Blood Lake was leading an army against the Severed Heavens Demon Court.
And now, within the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent, the domain of the Three Purities Daoist Court, Spear Demon Zang Wushu was single-handedly attacking the Blood River Sword Court!
Su Yi had obviously prepared all of this well in advance!
And all of this came as an unquestionably enormous blow to the Master Gods.
Who could have imagined that Su Yi would be able to find so many reinforcements even after returning through the cycle of reincarnation?
Master God Yun He’s expression darkened. “Distant waters cannot put out a fire close at hand. These ‘little tricks’ of yours cannot possibly change your situation!”
“Don’t be in such a rush,” Su Yi said casually. “I’ve racked my brains over this chess match, and I’ve used up most of the favors I had left over from my past lives. Everything was for the sake of showing you what happens when I set aside my scruples and use every means at my disposal!”
He spoke with firm conviction, and the depths of his gaze surged with irrepressible murderous intent.
He really was utterly enraged.
First, because he was worried about Xi Ning.
Second, because he couldn’t tolerate his enemies resorting to such shameless tricks to force him into the open.
Thus, this time, he’d gone all out, putting on an enormous show of strength. He wanted the whole world to know that his bottom line was not to be crossed!
Anyone who crossed the line would have to bear the consequences!
Silence descended over the crowd. Su Yi’s imposing presence was enough to intimidate everyone present.
Even some of the Nine-Tribulation Master Gods felt a strong sense of foreboding. They were concerned that their sects were already facing the brunt of Su Yi’s wrath, too.
This left them both surprised and furious. They were deeply ill at ease, terrified that their fears would become a reality.
Master God Yun He said coldly, “No need for any further display of such little tricks. They’ll only increase our determination to destroy you today once and for all!”
Su Yi laughed. “Better to let them see with their own eyes. I’d hate for anyone to think that was the full extent of my abilities. I’d also like to take this opportunity to knock some sense into those still watching from the shadows!”
As he spoke, he repeatedly snapped his fingers.
The Tree of All Worlds swayed, and one divine chain after another appeared, each scattering a rain of light that condensed into a curtain.
The curtains each reflected a different scene, all of them the home bases of top factions.
And forces Su Yi had arranged appeared in every last one of them!
Practically of them were long-vanished, unparalleled figures, experts not one whit inferior to Spear Demon Zang Wushu, Ancestor Blood Lake, or Wan Zitian.
Some fought alone, while others led armies into battle.
As the crowd recognized these once-influential, terrifying existences, they descended into uproar. Everyone felt as if they were on the verge of going insane.
Long-lost legends were reappearing before their eyes! How astonishing was that?
There were simply no words to describe it!
