First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2228 - The Husband of Our Founder

Chapter 2228 – The Husband of Our Founder

The night was dark and deep.

Ku Zhen fled for his life.

Kccch!

Talismans lit up all over his body. These were secret treasures used for escaping, and all of them were incomparably precious. Under ordinary circumstances, Ku Zhen couldn’t bear to use them.

But now, he gnashed his teeth and used them all.

That aside, he used a secret technique to disguise his presence and an escape art that sacrificed his cultivation base when activated.

For a moment, Ku Zhen felt that even if a Master God had targeted him, he’d be able to escape with ease!

Still, he was inwardly frantic.

It’s a pity that we’re in the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent. None of my message talismans can reach the sect.

I have to find a safe place and send word back immediately!

If I really can’t manage it, I can just go to the Three Purities Daoist Court! They’ll help me in exchange for telling them that Xiao Jian is really Su Yi in disguise!

When Ku Zhen thought back to what had just happened, his heart quivered with lingering terror.

Not even a Two-Tribulation Master God like High Elder Yuan Shan was a match for Su Yi!

He could picture what would have happened if he hadn’t sensed the danger and fled immediately. He’d almost certainly be dead by now!

Ku Zhen gnashed his teeth. Xiao Jian! No… Su Yi! I’ll make you pay for this!

But it was then that he felt a chill course down his spine, and his heart filled with terror and unease.

He instinctively whipped around. There, beneath the skies shrouded in dark clouds, he saw a sudden flash of light.

It was a streak of sword qi!

It was resplendent to the extreme, like the first light of a new day cleaving through the ancient darkness and illuminating all of creation.

It illuminated Ku Zhen’s fleeing figure, too.

“He… How did he catch up?” Ku Zhen’s face paled, and he freaked out.

A moment later… Boom!

Sword qi descended, cleaving through the darkness and splitting the sky. It left a perfectly straight rift in its wake. Ku Zhen’s short, thin figure was like a bug caught in a burning lamp, instantly incinerated.

Even in the last moments before his death, he didn’t understand how Su Yi had done this.

Moments later, Su Yi appeared out of nowhere.

Once he’d confirmed that Ku Zhen was really dead, he nodded in satisfaction, then drew his fingertip across the flat of the Sword of Proximity. “What a treasure!”

Distance shrunk beneath the Sword of Proximity’s blade. Even the ends of the earth were close at hand!

This was what Su Yi had relied on to kill Ku Zhen.

The Sword of Proximity was one of the Mysteries of Chaos. No matter where Su Yi’s enemies fled, the Sword of Proximity could still threaten them!

Whoosh!

Su Yi raised his hand, and the Sword of Proximity descended from the heavens and returned to his sleeve.

Meanwhile, Su Yi got to work scouring the battlefield for treasures. Before long, he’d gathered all of the belongings Ku Zhen had scattered across the battlefield, including a jade slip that recorded the entirety of Su Yi’s battle with High Elder Yuan Shan and a message talisman that recounted tonight’s events in full detail.

Fortunately, I didn’t let the old schemer escape. If I had, there’d have been no hiding my identity, thought Su Yi. Even as he thought this, he destroyed all of the treasures Ku Zhen had left behind.

The only things he saved were some divine medicines and Undying Divine Crystals.

Once he’d finished, Su Yi returned to the site of his battle with High Elder Yuan Shan. He checked the battlefield, and once he’d confirmed that he hadn’t left any leads behind, he turned to leave.

But then——

He suddenly stopped in midair and gazed into the distance.

He wasn’t sure when, but someone had appeared there, and he was headed right toward him.

It was an old man in brocade robes. This was none other than the manager of the Divine Abyss City branch of the Qilin Trading Company, Fan Huasheng!

He was a Greater God, but what really surprised Su Yi was that Fan Huasheng was holding someone aloft.

Grand Elder Wei Zhong!

Wei Zhong’s hair was loose and disheveled, and his youthful face was overcast and furious.

When he saw Su Yi, he seemed to realize something, and his expression filled with uncertainty.

Su Yi quickly noticed that Wei Zhong’s Undying Realm cultivation base had been completely sealed.

But that was precisely what he found so startling. Fan Huasheng is a Greater God, yet he managed to capture a Master God alive!?

“This humble old man greets you, Fellow Daoist Xiao.” Fan Huasheng clasped his fist in greeting.

“Did you capture him?” asked Su Yi.

“You think far too highly of me, Fellow Daoist Xiao. A Master God like Grand Elder Wei Zhong is far too much for this humble old man to handle.” Fan Huasheng shook his head. “It was one of the senior members of the Qilin Trading Company who captured him. He ordered this old man to deliver him to you, Fellow Daoist Xiao.”

Su Yi’s eyes flashed. “Does that mean that the Qilin Trading Company knows everything that happened here?”

Fan Huasheng hurriedly shook his head. “Rest assured, Fellow Daoist Xiao. This humble old man knows nothing of what happened here, and the others don’t either.”

As he spoke, he set Wei Zhong on the ground. “I won’t know whatever you decide to do with Grand Elder Wei Zhong, either.”

Su Yi was briefly stunned, but he quickly understood. “Many thanks.”

“You’re too polite, Fellow Daoist Xiao. Assisting you is this old man’s duty.” Fan Huasheng flashed him an earnest, sincere smile. “Once the night is through, I’ll forget everything that happened here tonight down to the last detail.”

By this point, how could Su Yi fail to understand? Qi Wei had obviously ordered Fan Huasheng to come here.

“If there’s nothing else I can do for you, Fellow Daoist Xiao, I’ll be on my way,” said Fan Huasheng.

Su Yi nodded. Only then did Fan Huasheng turn and leave.

Su Yi and Grand Elder Wei Zhong were the only ones left.

The night was dark and deep, and the winds were cold and bleak.

Wei Zhong let out a deep sigh. “If I’m not mistaken, High Elder Yuan Shan and Ku Zhen are already dead.”

“That’s right.” Su Yi nodded.

“During the expedition into the Barren Mountains of Divine Calamity, the Human-Faced Bluebird, Hui Qing, and Huang Changting died because of you too, right?”

“That’s right.”

When Su Yi didn’t deny it, Wei Zhong couldn’t help but look at him. “Then… just who exactly are you?”

Su Yi chuckled. “Answer a few of my questions first.”

After a moment’s silence, Wei Zhong said, “Alright.”

“You and the third elder belong to different camps, and you get along like fire and water,” said Su Yi. “So why did you tacitly agree to let him target me during tonight’s banquet?”

Wei Zhong had a complicated look on his face. “It’s not that I tacitly agreed to let Third Elder Ku Zhen hurt you, but that I knew that he’d never be able to get away with it in the Qilin Trading Company’s territory. I didn’t try to stop him because I wanted to see if he could reveal your true identity.

“But I never anticipated that both he and High Elder Yuan Shan would get themselves killed.”

Su Yi nodded. “And why did the Qilin Trading Company capture you and deliver you to me?”

“When you and Ku Zhen left Divine Abyss City, I planned to follow you and watch the show. However, just as I was about to leave the Qilin Trading Company’s territory, an old-timer intercepted me,” said Wei Zhong.

Here, his expression filled with deep-seated dread. “I didn’t even get to see their face before they suppressed me on the spot. They were clearly no ordinary Master God!”

“Mm,” said Su Yi. “What did you really come to the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent to do?”

Wei Zhong was briefly stunned, and his expression shifted erratically.

“You are, admittedly, a One-Tribulation Master God. That makes you a prominent expert within the Divine Dao. However, you’ve only just barely begun cultivating in the Undying Realm,” said Su Yi.

“Given your intelligence, I’m sure you’re keenly aware that even if you used Unfettered Wanderer to locate Su Yi, you couldn’t possibly capture him. After all, Su Yi has escaped even Nine-Tribulation Master Gods on numerous occasions.

“Given the circumstances, why would you come to the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent independently?”

This was the part Su Yi found most confusing.

Third Elder Ku Zhen had come to the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent to find an opportunity to target “Xiao Jian.”

But what about Wei Zhong? What was he doing here? If he was really hoping to use Unfettered Wanderer to target him, he ought to have brought a few helpers and made some preparations, right?

Yet he’d insisted on acting alone!

After a lengthy silence, Wei Zhong finally said, “I really am looking for Su Yi. However, I’m not out to defeat him.”

Su Yi was briefly stunned. “Then what are you after?”

Wei Zhong sighed. “I’m afraid you won’t believe me even if I tell you. There’s no need for any further questions. Do with me as you see fit. I already know that no matter what I do, I won’t live through the night.”

“Go ahead and tell me anyway,” said Su Yi.

Wei Zhong frowned, then asked, “I can answer your question, but first, you have to answer one of mine. How do you see Su Yi?”

Su Yi’s gaze was a bit strange. “It’s hard to say.”

“You just need to tell me whether you think of him as an irredeemable villain and the common foe of everyone beneath the heavens or not,” said Wei Zhong.

Su Yi didn’t pause to think. “Who says that he’s the common foe of everyone beneath the heavens? Those old-timers who view him with enmity cannot represent everyone in the God Domain.”

Wei Zhong couldn’t help but exclaim, “Well said!”

Su Yi was stunned; he hadn’t expected Wei Zhong to approve.

“Do you feel the same way?” he asked.

“I do!” Wei Zhong nodded, then finally seemed to make up his mind. “You wanted to know the real reason I came to the Spirit Firmament Divine Continent, right? It’s simple. I want to meet Su Yi and urge him to run away, the further the better. I want to tell him not to get involved in the Xi Family’s affairs, no matter what!”

Su Yi was increasingly surprised. “But… why would you do that?”

“I’m about to die,” laughed Wei Zhong. “So there’s no reason not to tell you. The truth is… Su Yi is the husband of the founder of my lineage!”

“???” Su Yi almost couldn’t resist the urge to blurt, “Since when did I have a grand disciple like you?”

But in the end, he held back. He pondered briefly, then pieced together a few clues. “Are you perhaps a disciple of Yu Xinyao’s lineage?”

Yu Xinyao had been Yi Daoxuan’s Dao Partner. She was also Hua Hongzhen’s senior apprentice sister. She too was from Qingwu Divine Court!

Wei Zhong exclaimed, “You actually know about the founder of our lineage? Just… just who are you?”

It was no wonder he was surprised. Yu Xinyao’s name had long since been wiped from the sect’s records due to her relationship with Yi Daoxuan.

It was to the point that all records of her existence had been sealed. In the present-day Qingwu Divine Court, only a few of the sect’s oldest authority figures knew about her.

The rest of the sect didn’t even know that someone like Yu Xinyao existed!
