First Immortal of the Sword

Chapter 2187 - Flying

Chapter 2187 – Flying

Su Yi was seated there too.

Way more gods are participating in this Spring and Autumn Dao Assembly than I expected.

Su Yi looked around and saw that most of the participants were yao and demon gods, but there were also Buddhists, Daoists, Confucianists, ghost cultivators, and other assorted experts.

There were over six hundred in total!

So many gods had gathered in one place. That alone was a rare, astonishing spectacle.

But by the standards of the Southern Flame Divine Province, it meant little, and by the standards of the God Domain as a whole, it wasn’t even worth mentioning.

The reason for this was simple. As hard as it was to become a god, over the course of countless years, more and more people succeeded in achieving divinity, while few gods had died.

By now, a single peak orthodoxy could be home to several hundred gods.

Any given epoch civilization could only support a limited number of gods.

Because the God Domain was home to so many gods, its experts seized the vast majority of chances at divinity. That made it so difficult for newcomers to achieve divinity.

This was why the divine children of the God Domain could go to the Immortal Realm, the River of Epochs, the Path of the Ancient Gods, and other places to seize available chances at divinity.

In other words, opportunities had largely been monopolized by those who’d gotten there first, then by their descendants. It was incomparably difficult for anyone else to achieve divinity.

Most of the world’s cultivators had decided to just give up and lie flat. They didn’t even dream of achieving divinity one day.

This naturally didn’t apply to the disciples of top factions. Their powerful backers controlled most of the world’s resources. They were nothing like those unfortunate rogue cultivators.

In the God Domain, a select few factions stood at the very top!

It was much like how an imperial clan controlled an empire’s resources in the mundane world.

This was also why so many gods came to participate in each annual Spring and Autumn Assembly. Who didn’twant to join a top faction to continue their cultivation?

Who didn’t want to become truly wealthy and powerful?

So long as participants stood out of the crowd in the Spring and Autumn Assembly, they had a chance of impressing a top faction. If they did, they’d be like carp jumping over the dragon’s gate.

It wasn’t even unusual for the elders, or even leaders, of smaller factions to cast everything aside to participate. They too longed to join a top faction…

This was the God Domain. Everyone who wanted to rise to prominence and grow stronger needed to look to the world’s top factions for support.

The only other choice was to give up and lie flat…

Admittedly, the God Domain was home to numerous forbidden zones and fortuitous grounds, but how could acquiring a chance at divinity possibly be so simple?

The cruel reality of the situation was that even though unexcavated fortuitous grounds existed, for the most part, only the God Domain’s top factions were qualified to explore them!

After all, the easily acquirable good fortune had been claimed by those very top factions a long time ago.

The more gods there were in the God Domain, the harder it would be for future generations to achieve divinity…

That is, unless a change so great as to overturn the order of the God Domain and break the pre-existing balance of power arose.

In the past, that would have seemed all but impossible. Which of the God Domain’s top factions hadn’t established themselves in ancient times? They’d survived until the present day, standing tall throughout the shifting of worldly affairs. No one had ever shaken them.

But nothing was absolute!

At the very least, Su Yi knew that the Dark Days of Legend were coming, and that when they arrived, the pre-existing order would break. The God Domain would be plunged into endless turmoil, and the pre-existing balance of power was at risk of being completely rewritten!

As Su Yi’s thoughts raced, a bell rang, signalling the start of the Spring and Autumn Dao Assembly, the event everyone was waiting for!

The hosts of the event, the Qilin Trading Company, had sent a god they called “Elder Wei” to oversee things.

Over a dozen experts of top factions were in the spectator seats, including Elder Niu Kui of the Severed Heavens Demon Court and Elder Tie Wenjing of Qingwu Divine Court, among others.

There were nine arenas at the center of the ritual grounds. They called them the Sparring Pits of Demons and Gods.

Each was covered in formations strong enough to block the aftermath of any attack beneath the Master God level.

Now, as the curtains opened, nine clashes of the Grand Dao began simultaneously!

The vast majority of the participants were Creation Realm Lesser Gods. Few were Mid-Rank Gods, and only one was a Greater God.

This was typical, as Greater Gods were already prominent, influential experts with lofty statuses and transcendent positions. All of them had powerful factions behind them! Even if they wanted to change their allegiance, they didn’t need to go through an event like the Spring and Autumn Festival. They could just go to their sect of choice and request an exception to the usual admission policies. They’d even receive an important position in their new faction!

Thus, most of the sparring matches were between Lesser Gods.

The fighting was fierce!

Startled cries and cheers followed. Even the higher-ups in the spectator stands watched solemnly to see if they could pick out a few good seedlings worthy of recruiting.

Only Su Yi found the whole thing as boring as could be. These clashes of the Grand Dao were quite the spectacle, but battles of this level had long since ceased to interest him.

Under other circumstances, he’d have simply left a long time ago instead of wasting his time here, but for the sake of infiltrating Qingwu Divine Court, he had no choice but to endure.

Before long, an aged voice rang out. “Where is Xiao Jian? It’s your turn to fight!”

Numerous eyes instantly locked onto Su Yi.

However, Su Yi completely ignored them all. He rose, flashed through the air, and arrived in one of the arenas.

“That’s that descendant of the Torch Dragons, Yao God Xiao Jian?”

“Hehe, just you wait! I heard that he’s in for big trouble during this Spring and Autumn Dao Assembly!”

A series of discussions followed.

The prominent experts watching from the stands all looked at Su Yi. Each had a different look on their face. All of them knew that the Severed Heavens Demon Court had sentenced this young man to death!

Niu Kui was looking at Su Yi too, his gaze cold and indifferent. He’d personally arranged opponents for Su Yi!

“Xiao Jian has entered the Sparring Pits of Demons and Gods. Any expert in the Creation Realm may now step forth to debate the Dao with him!” an old man said gravely.

Whoosh!

He’d only just said this when someone took to the air and arrived in the arena Su Yi was standing in.

He was a tall, thin man in black robes. He had a head of long, snow-white hair, and his narrow eyes glinted like the edge of a saber.

Uproar followed his arrival. It drew the attention of even those who’d been watching other duels.

Because the man in black was called Yu Sheng, and he was a core disciple of the Severed Heavens Demon Court, as well as one of the most unparalleled and famous divine children in the Southern Flame Divine Continent. He’d proven his Dao and achieved divinity just a few years prior!

Despite his recent breakthrough, he was so strong that he made even most older Lesser Gods pale by comparison.

“What’s someone as illustrious as Yu Sheng doing in the Spring and Autumn Dao Assembly?” He’s already the core disciple of a peak orthodoxy!”

“There’s no rule against experts of top factions participating in the Spring and Autumn Dao Assembly. Seems to me that Yu Sheng has just come here to spar.”

“In that case, that Torch Dragon Xiao Jian has surely run into a powerful rival!”

The crowd couldn’t help but be eager. Of all the combatants currently on stage, Yu Sheng and Xiao Jian drew by far the most attention!

“Ol’ Niu, aren’t you worried that something will happen to Yu Sheng?” one of the other spectating experts couldn’t help but ask.

“Hah.” Niu Kuii said calmly, “Yu Sheng is fighting simply to get a feel for Xiao Jian’s limits, not to fight to the death. Of course, if Xiao Jian loses… he’ll be doomed!”

The crowd’s eyes flashed. They basically understood what Niu Kui was after.

Yu Sheng was there to probe Xiao Jian’s abilities, but if he crushed Xiao Jian in battle, he’d ruin him!

After all, even in a fair duel, it was common to accidentally kill or cripple your opponent!

In stark contrast, if Yu Sheng lost, it wouldn’t matter, as Niu Kui had arranged for someone even stronger than him to fight Xiao Jian next!

“The Severed Heavens Demon Court really is shameless!” Feng Wuji said without the slightest politeness. He was spectating too, and he could hear every word.

The prominent experts all had strange looks on their faces. None of them said anything.

Who among them could have been ignorant of the enmity between the Feng Family and the Severed Heavens Demon Court?

“I’m not breaking any rules. How could you accuse me of shamelessness?” Niu Kui said with a cold laugh. He couldn’t be bothered to argue with a junior like Feng Wuji, and he soon paid him no further heed.

Feng Wuji furrowed his brow, his expression a bit overcast.

As they conversed, the black-robed Yu Sheng said calmly, “My name is Yu Sheng, and I’m a disciple of the Severed Heavens Demon Court…”

But before he could get any further, Su Yi said, “No more nonsense. Just attack!”

“???” The crowd didn’t know what to make of that. This Xiao Jian sure is arrogant and tyrannical!

Some of the prominent experts were stunned, but Xiao Jian’s domineeringness only made them even more eager.

It had been far, far too long since a Torch Dragon had appeared. As an expert of their lineage, just how strong was Xiao Jian?

Many of the onlookers watched with bated breath, fully focused on the battle.

Yu Sheng’s expression instantly darkened. Even if you’d hit him over the head, he would never have guessed that Xiao Jian would give him so little face, especially with a crowd watching.

Boom!

His vital energy rumbled and boomed, and his black robes billowed even in the absence of wind. Monstrous red demonic flames erupted from his tall, upright figure.

Countless eyes filled with astonishment. One look at his aura, and it was obvious that this core disciple of the Severed Heavens Demon Court was a first-rate Creation Realm Lesser God. Even at that level, he was less than one in ten thousand!

Niu Kui couldn’t help but look smug. He said leisurely, “If Xiao Jian loses to Yu Sheng, he should consider himself fortunate. After all, not just anyone is worthy of fighting Yu Sheng personally.”

He’d only just said this when… Bang!!

Yu Sheng was sent flying out of the arena. He then landed in the dirt, face first, like a dog eating shit.

A deathly silence fell over the crowd. The clamor of voices had come to an abrupt halt.

As their voices trailed off, the crowd’s eyes widened in astonishment. Many of them felt their minds go blank. What… what happened just now?

How did Yu Sheng suddenly go flying?
