Chapter 1888 - The Winds and Clouds Rise for Him Alone
Chapter 1888 – The Winds and Clouds Rise for Him Alone
The Sumeru Lamp had yet to hit the ground when Su Yi plucked it from the air.
Boom!
The treasure struggled violently and erupted with a terrifying, taboo power of the Laws.
Any other Great Realm expert would have been badly injured, but Su Yi just circulated the Laws of Reincarnation to suppress it, all the while swinging the Book of Karma like a brick. He ruthlessly whaled on it, leaving it buzzing and quivering.
The Book of Karma wanted to cry, but it had no tears. It even felt the urge to kill someone. Bad enough that it’d been used as a shield. Now, Su Yi was swinging it around like a brick. When had one of the Nine Mysteries of Chaos ever been treated like this before?
The Sumeru Lamp didn’t get off lightly either. This treasure was the work of the Dipnkara Buddha, and it was imbued with an Epoch Law. This was its first time being trampled by a Great Martial cultivator like this. The most terrifying part was that the Book of Karma’s power of karmic attachments had infiltrated its body, damaging its source energies!
But Jia Yun was the first to give in.
His soul body was hidden within the Sumeru Lamp, and it suffered a terrifying impact. He barely held out for more than a few seconds before he was forced out of the lamp.
“You think you can return to report to your true body? You’re dreaming!” Su Yi seized Jia Yun’s soul body and circulated the power of reincarnation around his fingertips, snuffing it out completely.
Practically simultaneously—
A strange, terrifying power appeared within the Sumeru Lamp.
Su Yi had come dangerously close to suffering a backlash from the Crescent Moon Blade not long ago, so this time, there was no need for the Book of Karma’s warning. Su Yi tossed the treasure away.
Boom!
The Sumeru Lamp blazed with countless streams of radiant flame, burning the sky.
This instantaneous eruption of power was far more terrifying than the lamp had been in Jia Yun’s hands!
However, the treasure’s only goal was to break free and escape. In the blink of an eye, it vanished.
“Why are the gods’ Epoch Treasures all like this?” Su Yi didn’t quite get it, so he asked the Book of Karma.
“Don’t you dare talk to me, dammit!” wrote the book.
“……” Su Yi couldn’t help but laugh. He could tell the Book of Karma was angry and resentful.
He tried to comfort it. “Using you to your full potential is my way of showing you respect. If there were really no way for me to use you, wouldn’t you seem too useless?”
The Book of Karma quivered with fury. The hell kind of logic is that? What, should I just become a shield? Or a brick?
In the end, a new line of text appeared on a blank page. “I guess I ought to thank you, huh? I would never have known I had all these ‘wondrous applications’ if not for you!”
“So,” said Su Yi, “are you sure you don’t want to answer my questions?”
The Book of Karma wasn’t sure when, but a six-inch sword coffin had appeared in his hand.
“….” The Book of Karma fell silent. What’s he trying to say? Is he using Third Brother Sword to threaten me? Screw that! Does he really think that’s enough to scare me?
The Book of Karma was about to give up the argument and disregard Su Yi when it sensed the six-inch sword coffin rising into the air.
It instantly panicked, and a new line of text appeared on the page. “Since you’re earnestly requesting my guidance, I’ll just have to clear up your doubts, troublesome as it may be. Don’t just stand there! Put the sword away!”
Su Yi smiled and put the sword coffin away.
Earlier, he’d used this treasure to intercept the Sumeru Lamp. With the Sword of Proximity, it didn’t matter if your enemies fled to the ends of the earth. They were still but inches away!
Before long, the Book of Karma explained the situation with Epoch Treasures.
The Crescent Moon Blade and the Sumeru Lamp were refined by gods. There was no way to subdue them unless you killed the god that crafted them.
That aside, Epoch Treasures were intelligent and aware. When they sensed danger, they wouldn’t hesitate to flee and escape, even at the cost of damage to their source power!
But the Book of Karma and the Sword of Proximity were different. They were naturally formed divine treasures. Anyone who subdued them could become their masters.
Su Yi finally understood.
He then tossed the Divine Replenishment Furnace into the air, and it obediently gathered up the spoils.
In truth, their only real trophy of war was the monk’s ruler, a Great Profound Stage treasure. Those were incredibly rare, but beyond that, it was of little interest to Su Yi.
What he really cared about was the Sword of the Human Realm undergoing reforging within the Divine Replenishment Furnace!
“How much longer will it take?” asked Su Yi.
The Divine Replenishment Furnace said with glee, “Refining that punishment ruler ought to be enough!”
It had only just found the ruler amongst the spoils, and it was very pleased with it. The ruler was, after all, a Great Profound Stage weapon!
“Will it be ready in time for tomorrow’s Immortal Peach Assembly?”
“Uh…It would be difficult!”
“Difficult? So it is possible, right?”
“That…”
“Then do your best. Don’t think you can just feast on my resources without putting any real work in. If that’s all you can offer, why keep you around?”
The Divine Replenishment Furnace shuddered. The words “Why keep you around?” wounded it to the core.
The Book of Karma suddenly felt the sympathy of a fellow sufferer. So, I’m not the only one Su Yi is abusing!
But then, the Divine Replenishment Furnace said solemnly, “Your Excellency, please, rest assured! I’ll do everything in my power and put my life on the line to reforge the Sword of the Human Realm! I absolutely won’t leave a ‘useless’ impression on you.”
The Book of Karma said nothing, but inwardly, it cried out, Useless? Fuck! Who does that damned furnace think it’s insulting?
“Come on, let’s find an inn and have a rest. Lately, my cultivation’s shown signs of advancing…” As Su Yi mumbled to himself, he turned to leave, his blue robes fluttering beneath the light of dusk.
……
Meanwhile, inside a dilapidated, long-abandoned temple in the Central Plain Province.
The light of the setting sun cast elongated shadows over the withered grass and fallen leaves. The collapsed Buddha statue inside the temple was covered in dust and cobwebs. The light of dusk only made it seem all the more somber and bleak.
Splurt!
Jia Yun was seated cross-legged in the temple when he suddenly coughed up a mouthful of blood. His face was instantly pallid, and his chest heaved violently.
“Su Yi actually destroyed my Arhat Clone?”
Jia Yun’s brow furrowed, and he slowly wiped the blood from his lips.
He’d cultivated two Grand Dao Clones—or in his case, Arhat Clones, and each was as strong as his true body. Whenever he went out, he’d leave at least one body in the sect to ensure he always had a way out of a bad situation. But his trip to the Immortal Realm was different. In preparation for achieving divinity, he’d brought both of his clones with him.
He wouldn’t have guessed he’d lose one before the Path of Divinity even appeared! This was sure to impact his chances of becoming a god.
“The Dipankara Buddha was right. The higher one’s cultivation, the greater a taboo it is to cultivate a Grand Dao Clone. It might seem like I’m leaving myself a way out, but in truth, damage to a clone hurts the true body, too. The rewards aren’t worth the risk.”
Jia Yun let out a deep sigh.
Should a heart devil arise, a Grand Dao Clone was highly likely to turn on its master! Thus, even gods seldom cultivated Grand Dao Clones. People spoke of gods manifesting three thousand bodies, but those were merely illusory doppelgangers. They weren’t true Grand Dao Clones.
Whoosh!
Before long, a streak of treasure light appeared, took on the shape of the Sumeru Lamp, and landed in Jia Yun’s hand.
“This…” Jia Yun’s eyes widened. To his shock and horror, he discovered that the Epoch Treasure the Dipankara Buddha had granted him was now badly damaged. Its surface was pitted and marred, and even worse, its source power had all but been frittered away!
This discovery sent waves of shock coursing through Jia Yun’s heart. A long time passed before he could speak.
It was only after night fell and the darkness fully enveloped the run-down temple that Jia Yun whispered, “I can no longer pin my hopes on achieving divinity. Thus, we’ll… just have to determine a victor at the Immortal Peach Assembly!”
……
Time slipped by.
The day of the Immortal Peach Assembly had finally arrived.
When the first light of dawn broke through the darkness, it bathed all three hundred thousand feet of Cloudsoar Peak in seemingly holy radiance.
Meanwhile, a dense sea of bobbing heads had gathered at the foot of the mountain, carpeting the landscape. The crowd stretched as far as the eye could see, extending into the distance on all sides.
“The day that will change the Immortal Realm’s balance of power has finally arrived…” someone sighed.
When Sect Leader Qi Nie announced that he’d re-establish the Central Immortal Court at the upcoming Immortal Peach Assembly, word spread as quickly as if it had grown wings. The wind and clouds gathered throughout the Immortal Realm, and countless people were waiting with bated breath.
It was to the point that before the Immortal Peach Assembly had even begun, countless experts of the Immortal Dao had gathered around Cloudsoar Peak. As time passed, the crowd only expanded.
Ordinarily speaking, an Immortal Lord’s movements would cause an uproar, and everyone would pay attention. But today, Immortal Lords weren’t even worth looking at. They were all over the place. Only the Immortal Kings’ arrival caused a disturbance, and even that was nothing major.
Because… those Immortal Kings who hadn’t received invitations could only wait beyond the mountain like everyone else. They weren’t even qualified to participate in the Immortal Peach Assembly!
This gathering was so enormous that even some true old monsters were gobsmacked.
There was no doubt about it. This was the grandest gathering of immortals since the Age of Fallen Immortals. No other occasion could compare; there was nothing else like it!
“Will Su Yi, the reincarnation of the Eternal Night Immortal Sovereign, really show up to the Immortal Peach Assembly?”
When the light of dawn illuminated the landscape, it reflected on countless faces. The sound of conversation rose and fell in waves.
It was complete chaos, a clamor of voices. But most of the conversation had nothing to do with the Church of the Pure One’s Immortal Peach Assembly or how many top factions of the Immortal Dao were involved. It wasn’t about how many prominent and terrifying experts they’d invited, and neither was it about the grandness of the upcoming Immortal Peach Assembly, which would serve as an opening ceremony for the new Central Immortal Court. No, the conversation revolved around just one person.
Su Yi! The reincarnation of the Eternal Night Immortal Sovereign!
He was once an unparalleled legend of his era, the sole ruler of the Immortal Realm, an unmatched Immortal Sovereign. He dominated all other Great Realm experts of his era to the point that they could no longer raise their heads. He was the Tyrant the demons of the Beyond hated to the bone. He was the man the Immortal Realm’s sword cultivators revered as the First Immortal of the Sword. A man whose accomplishments and prestige had been passed down and circulated for countless generations after his death, a true legend!
Now, this legend had returned, and he’d pointed his sword at the Immortal Peach Assembly. The resulting commotion was so enormous that no one else in the Immortal Realm could have caused its equal. It was no exaggeration to say that the Immortal Peach Assembly had drawn such widespread attention and immortals from across the Immortal Realm primarily because that legend had returned!
That’s right. It was all because of him!
He’d stirred up the wind and clouds throughout the Immortal Realm. His name was as radiant as the sun shining overhead, illuminating the world below, and his reputation shook all beneath the heavens. This was Wang Ye’s influence. This was what made him a legend!
