Chapter 1255: Farm to Table
Chapter 1255: Farm to Table
Abaddon hadn’t seen Seras this jittery in quite a long while. His wife was positively buzzing out of her scales.
It dawned upon him that this was the first time in recent memory that she would get to fight in her own body. It helped him better understand her excitement.
Seras may not have been a deity of war anymore, but she thrived in causing anarchy and havoc wherever she could. And given that she was now essentially about to topple a large city, she was feeling more than a little bit excited.
As they descended, Abaddon could hear virtually all of his wife’s thoughts streaming into his head unrestrained.
’Can’t end it too quick… I wanna make this last, I want to have a story to tell the kids! Make them realize how cool their mom is! Christ, I’m so fucking nervous.. I hope I can still move around great. I haven’t put on any weight, right…? I’ll shrink my hips and my chest just in ca- oh, now my clothes feel all baggy! Fuck!’
Abaddon considered stepping in at some point, but it seemed as though Seras just had some things she needed to work out on her own.
’Okay, okay, calm down, Seras… You’re going to crush it. You’re going to flip this entire fucked up place on it’s head, and it’s going to be great! Oh, there are so many wicked bastards here to punish, I can feel it! God damnit, now I’m just getting turned on!!’ Seras tightened her legs together.
Seras looked towards her husband and found him already staring back at her. Her eyes became overtly flirtatious.
“…You’re handsome-”
“Focus, babe.”
Abaddon knew he couldn’t allow Seras to try to tempt him.
Because it would certainly work.
The couple hit the ground like twin meteors, causing the earth to rumble and sending a cloud of debris into the air. They landed just outside of a large, dome-shaped building that was almost as large as a professional stadium.
This was the place their senses had naturally led them. A magical barrier was erected over the entire building, so they couldn’t even tell what was inside.
If Abaddon were to guess, it had taken anywhere from fifty to sixty witches working nonstop for a week to make this barrier as strong as it was. That only made him want to get inside all the more.
He turned his head to the sky to wait for Tatiana and Sif to join them, but Seras, as evidenced by her nonsensical string of thoughts, was much less inclined to wait.
Especially not with guards at the door.
“W-Who are you!?”
“It can’t be… You’re…!”
Seras moved so fast that she broke the sound barrier.
She started to rush toward the two gargoyles who guarded the building when another force hit them first.
Seras had moved so fast that the shockwave she had created was too much for the gargoyles to withstand.
As soon as the sonic boom struck them, their bodies blasted apart into chunks of mincemeat before inevitably turning back into stone.
Seras stood still, staring at the ground.
When she turned back to her husband, her lips were puckered into a slight pout.
“I didn’t… get to do anything.”
Abaddon could tell that Seras was upset, but he was trying his best not to laugh.
He pulled her away from the door just as Sif and Tatiana came to join them.
“I’m certain there will be more enemies for you to vanquish who’ll pose more of a challenge. Don’t lose heart so easily.”
Without warning, Abaddon unhinged his jaw and spewed forth a tidal wave of flame.
His flames slammed into the building thunderously, melting not only the doors, but also burning the very magic out of the walls.
As soon as the spell was broken, Seras twitched.
It felt like a loose synapse in her brain had been reconnected, and she now had complete clarity. Just the same, Tatiana could now sense what was going on as well.
Their faces reflected their immense horror and shock.
“”…No..!””
Seras turned into a mass of blood, while Tatiana became simple water. Both sank into the ground and disappeared, one right after the other.
Sif stepped to her husband’s side, her brow creased. She sniffed the air, and her eyes darkened.
“That’s… a lot of blood.”
Abaddon did not say anything, but his face had become similarly hard.
As screams began to ring out into the night and fires sparked across the land, Abaddon knew that whatever his Euphrates was finding was immensely disturbing.
He marched forward to follow his wives, flames already tickling in the back of his throat.
–
The inside of the building was closer to a small factory. One that produced unspeakable horrors in it’s depths.
Large vats, upwards of eight feet tall, were filled to the brim with blood. This blood was seemingly derived from the humans reclining on examining tables. Needles were inserted into their arms, pulling blood into clear plastic tubes and into a series of smaller carts.
Around fifty humans were being drawn from at one time, but they were… amiss.
Their eyes were unfocused, sunken in, and hollow. Some of them looked as if they hadn’t seen the sunlight in several months.
A group of around ten vampires stood spaced out between the humans. They listened quietly as the heartbeats of the humans gradually began to slow.
“This one’s done.” One quickly took the needle out of a human’s arm before he died. “Bring some over.”
Another vampire brought over a serving tray piled high with cookies and a pitcher of orange juice.
A cookie was snatched off the plate and inserted into the human’s mouth. The young man chewed robotically, and when finished, a slightly ditzy smile spread along his lips.
The vampire smiled as he patted him on the cheek condescendingly. “You’re tired of this, I know. But look on the bright side. You’ve been with us for so long now that you’ll be part of the next group to go to the meat locker. Won’t that be great?”
The human smiled dumbly, causing bits of chewed cookie to fall out of his mouth. In response to the repulsive sight, his captor sneered and raised his hand. “Why, you little-”
“Don’t you dare.” Another woman said. “We’ve already seen a dip in our reserves since the master wanted to have one of his ’events’ again. Don’t damage the goods we still have.”
The male vampire huffed as he jerked his chin towards the human.
Dizzy, he stood up on wobbly legs and wandered away, towards a pair of steel doors guarded by a pair of heavyset men.
When they saw the human approaching, they each grabbed one handle and wrenched open the doors.
The sight inside was heartbreaking.
A sea of humans, numbering well into the hundreds, were lying atop ratty old blankets and pillows that were turning brown. They all had the same tired, thoughtless look about them.
Some were conscious enough to weakly kick around a ball. Though they did not have the strength to stand.
More horrific still was the condition of the women. Over ninety percent of them were at one stage of pregnancy or another. And yet, there were no children to be seen anywhere.
“Hey, when is red-head bringing some new bodies? These ones are starting to lose their flavo-”
*Rumble!*
The ground shook angrily as water began to drip from the ceiling. Out of nowhere, the vats of blood exploded all across the facility.
Two angry roars sent waves of fear rushing down the spines of everyone present.
Gradually taking shape in midair were beings of immense power and splendor.
But none of the vampires ever got to see their faces. As soon as they glimpsed their divine form, they were burned away by the light of their radiance.
