Chapter 1253: Radu Tepes : The Little Dragon
Chapter 1253: Radu Tepes : The Little Dragon
– The Present…
Mateo flew down to a somewhat gaudy building that was brighter than the Eiffel Tower.
His form was intangible, allowing him to step through the walls of the building as if they weren’t there.
He entered what seemed to be the lobby of a high rise building.
Upon taking a single step inside, umbral chains wrapped around his arms and legs, holding him in place.
’… Don’t tell me.’ Mateo was already rolling his eyes.
Sure enough, Mateo soon heard the sound of designer heels clicking against the hardwood floor.
Emerging from around the corner was a woman with oily black hair and a slender figure.
Her deep, green eyes shone with a venomous and fiercely intelligent light.
“It’s no use hiding. You might as well show yourself while I’m still asking nicely. My wards are all but unbreakable.”
“Tan confiado …” (So confident…)
The woman stiffened at the familiar accent coming from the empty room.
She stepped back slowly, pupils trembling and hands shaking.
“No…It can’t be you..! They said you were dead!”
“Oh?”
Slowly, Mateo dispelled his corporeal state and stared down at the short woman cowering against the wall.
With a casual yank, he broke the chains binding his arms and legs. Wrubbing his wrists, he clicked his teeth at the familiar face.
“I should say I’m surprised to see you, Roseanne, but… That would be a bit of a lie on my part. Wherever vermin can be found rustling through the garbage, you’re always hanging around looking to benefit however you can.”
The sound of Mateo’s hard-bottom shoes tapping against the floor as he approached was like rolling thunder in the ears of the witch.
Teeth chattering, she held out her hand.
“D-Don’t you dare come close to me!”
A bolt of lightning rocketed out of her hand and struck Mateo squarely in the chest.
As soon as it hit him, Mateo’s body burst apart into a swarm of bats. Screeching raked against Roseanne’s eardrums like rusty sickles.
“….I see the new world is treating you well. You’ve upgraded your magic tricks to something a little less circus-like.”
Roseanne brought her hands over her head as she curled into a ball on the floor. “P-Please, don’t hurt me, I’m just doing what I’m told!”
She hears a sudden snort come from above her head.
“Oh, I have no doubt of that.” Mateo sneered. “And I’m sure you are an entirely unwilling participant.”
Roseanne looked up with a tear-streaked smile. “T-That’s right! I was just doing whatever Radu said would-”
“Tell me, has the concept of sarcasm gone out of style in the two years I’ve been away?”
Mateo grabbed the woman by the back of her neck and lifted her up like a stray pup.
“I am only going to ask you this once.” He glared. “What else have you been doing for him while you’ve been here..?”
Roseanne swallowed. Mateo could feel her heart pounding within her chest.
She was so afraid that a heart attack was almost imminent.
“B-Before I say anything… I want your word that I won’t be punished… o-or at least that I’ll only get a slap on the wrist…”
“Do you honestly believe you’re in a position to make any demands here..? I’ll let you in on a little secret…”
Mateo leaned in, and Roseanne shuddered at the feeling of his warm breath against her neck and ear.
He whispers, and Roseanne feels her body turn cold.
“The Black Dragon is here…”
Roseanne is so afraid, her body won’t even tremble anymore.
“Y-You’re joking… D-Don’t tell me, is he mad about the kid!?? It wasn’t my idea to hire him, but-”
“You’re saying a lot of things at the moment, but none of it is what I asked you to tell me.” Mateo tightened his grip around her neck.
“O-Okay, okay!! I just… want you to know that none of this was my idea, alright…?”
As Roseanne began to spill the details of her dark deeds, Mateo’s eyes progressively became wider and wider.
At the same time, a horrendous pressure washed into the room from outside. The sky overhead turned a deep, hateful red.
Mateo casually glanced over his shoulder out the window.
“Well, what do you know… Seems he’s even less amused than I am.”
Mateo turned his gaze back to Roseanne, and his gaze was unspeakably cold.
“…A slap on the wrist indeed.”
He grabbed her left wrist before she could even blink, and snapped it as easily as sandalwood.
Before she could even let out a scream or hit the ground, Mateo was already gone, heading up to the top floor.
–
Two vampires with noticeably huge physiques burst into a luxury penthouse. Their demeanor was panicked, and a cold sheen of sweat adorned their bald heads and toned cheeks.
“Boss! Boss, we’ve got a problem!”
The penthouse, despite it’s elegance, was a horrid place for the human eye to witness.
At least fifteen different men & women, all naked and covered in bite marks, lie on the ground unresponsive. On the sofa, there was a group of five vampires. Three men and two women. All of whom were unconscious.
Unlike the other bodies on the floor, they were. not dead. They were passed out drunk.
One of the men stirred awake, but only barely. He pushed his curly black hair out of his face before shooting the men an annoyed look.
“Brutus… Kevin. Have you any conceivable idea of what time it is…?”
Both men shuddered.
“We’re sorry for disturbing you, Mr. Tepes, but there’s an issue that-”
“Ugh…”
Radu waved away the concerns of his bodyguards and went back to resting his head in the crotch of his companion.
“Whatever it is, just handle it…I’m in no mood to hear your prattle or your hysterics…”
“Yes… you do seem like quite the busy man.”
Radu’s eyes snapped open at the first moment he heard the unfamiliar voice.
He looked around his penthouse, eyes wide and full of terror. “I-It can’t be… You’re dead!”
Suddenly, the two bodyguards clutched at their throats as their bodies levitated in the air.
In a sickly and revolting turn of events, their heads performed a complete 360-degree turn, ripping themselves free of the rest of their bodies and hanging in the air like mistletoe.
Radu tried to scream, but no words would come out of his mouth. He couldn’t even open his jaw.
In the milliseconds between him closing his eyes to blink and opening them once again, he came face to face with the obsidian barbs of a weapon he was intimately familiar with.
“I just wanted you to know so that there’s no confusion… this is truly going to hurt.”
