Chapter 1251: The Death of Dracula II
Chapter 1251: The Death of Dracula II
Vlad was taken aback by Mateo’s clear intent to harm him.
His surprise at this development only lasted for a moment before he decided that he didn’t care. This was everything that he could have possibly wanted.
A wide, villainous smile spread across his lips as he took excitable, heaving breaths.
When the lights had spontaneously gone out, panic set in among the partygoers. Many of the soldiers took up their arms and waved them about haphazardly.
Vlad had no interest in the panic within the hall. His eyes were solely focused on Mateo, as his body gradually became more and more obscured by shadow.
However, Vlad’s sons were not so firm in their resolve.
His youngest, in particular, was quite shaken by Mateo’s arrival and the subtle display of his power. “Father… is he really the first of us…?”
“Is that fear I hear in your voice, boy?” Vlad’s eyes shone with a dangerous light.
His son naturally shrank back in fear of the superior predator, something the Impaler found distasteful.
“How many times must I tell you…” Vlad raised a hand to his chest and ripped open the fine fabrics covering his form.
“THE MEN OF THE DRACUL LINE ARE NEVER THE PREY!!”
Without warning, Vlad ripped open his chest.
Blood burst from the wound, hardening upon exposure to the air. As more blood flowed, crystalline spears of blood shot out in every direction.
The partygoers were the first victims. They died without ever even seeing what was coming.
Blades of blood ripped through the room with no warning, destroying furniture, people, and decor indiscriminately.
Drool spilled from Vlad’s mouth as he waited for the moment that his blades would pierce Mateo and pierce his heart.
He could already hear the sensation. The shredding of flesh. The shattering of bone. Once again, he would feel that sweet sensation of glorious carnage. He would know an exhilaration that had long since lost it’s luster.
It made him so hungry…
“Amateur.”
The crystals of blood shattered into millions of smaller shards. Rather than hitting the ground, they floated in the air, slowly rotating to point towards Vlad and his sons.
Mateo stepped forward leisurely, his body wrapped in smoky shadow.
“Why would you attempt to use your blood against the very one who gave it to you?”
Vlad felt his sons stiffen beside him. He could not understand it, no matter how hard he tried.
This was what they had wanted, was it not? This was thrilling!
“It seems you have some tricks of your own… but allow me to show you why the next generation is always destined to surpass the last!”
Mateo looked down at the pools of blood on the floor. Vibrations traveled through his sandals to his toes.
He shook his head, not bothering to hide his distaste.
“…Fool.”
A great explosion of blood punched through the ceiling of the castle.
Rising out of the destruction was an enormous, long-eared bat-human hybrid.
It’s great and terrible wings covered the surrounding city in shadow.
Horrified screams arose from the people as they unknowingly beheld their ruler in his dreadful form. Underneath the light of a full moon, the sight was made all the more ghastly.
At some point, Mateo had appeared on the streets of Walachia, a look of mild annoyance written on his face.
He held up his free hand and wove a complicated sigil in the air. Briefly, he closed his eyes.
’Sister-in-law… I have need of a small favor.’
Mateo opened his eyes and waited casually, watching as the giant vampire was joined by two smaller bat-like creatures.
And then, he heard a familiar eligant voice in his head.
’Why, Mateo. I am a bit surprised to hear from you at this hour.’
Mateo glanced down at his own shadow. Staring back at him were a pair of inhuman purple eyes.
He smiled at them fondly.
’I’m sorry for the disturbance. But I have an entire town here who needs to wake up with amnesia.’
Audrina’s glowing eyes blinked abruptly. ’How shocking. You’re usually much more discreet.’
Mateo grumbled at her choice of words. He couldn’t believe he had allowed the situation to get this out of hand.
’Not to worry. What you ask is a very simple thing.’
Mateo felt a sudden chill at his back.
He glanced behind him and saw numerous pairs of the same purple eyes staring back at him from different corners of shadow.
’Do try to come visit soon. I fear my husband is growing a bit annoyed with only Nyx to keep him company.’
Audrina vanished into her darkness, leaving Mateo behind.
For a moment, he smiled fondly as he thought of his home away from home. He wondered just how big his nieces and nephews had gotten.
’Well… can’t waste time thinking about that.’
Once more, Mateo vanished into thin air.
As Vlad and his sons took to the sky to search for their prey, an ominous black wind surrounded them in an instant.
Vlad’s fangs were larger than a wooden cart. Sharper than any mortal blade.
He turned his head to the sky and let out a scream that was heard for miles.
“STOP HIDINGGGG!!! Face me, you coward!!”
“You overestimate your own importance.”
A black mist swirled around Vlad. He flapped his wings hard to drive the gusts away, but it continued to impede his vision as an iron wall.
“Is this all you are capable of?? Playing games in the shade like a chi-”
A lump of meat suddenly drops at Vlad’s feet.
He looks at it for a moment, initially not recognizing it. However, upon rolling it over, his heart grows cold.
The head of his youngest son is sitting before him, eyes permanently open and a look of surprise across his muzzle.
Believing it to be a trick, Vlad turned back to his youngest son for confirmation.
He turned around just in time to see a headless corpse sliding onto the floor.
“F-Father…”
Horrified, Vlad followed the horrified voice of his other son.
The sight was even more distressing than the last. His son stood alone, impaled on the strange weapon of the foreigner as he stood behind him.
“As I said… your legacy ends here today. Everything you have built or bred will join you in obscurity.”
Vlad gnashed his teeth together angrily.
Now, he felt no excitement or exhilaration.
All that remained within him was a sick, twisting rage.
He was no longer going to kill Mateo for the thrill of the challenge.
He was going to kill him because he hated him.
