Chapter 986: Chapter 489: Martial Extreme Trial (Part 2)
Li Ang stared at the brown-haired Douding for a few seconds, trying to determine if she was subtly mocking the Weapon Race or telling the truth.
However, the psychological resilience of a shrewd trader made it difficult for her to reveal any flaws at this moment.
"It’s hard to imagine that the family of Elaphia, who appears to live life with such elegance, would adhere to savage traditions," Li Ang said.
"The Alma Clan is much better, and they are also one of the most communicative with the outside world, even becoming representatives of the Weapon Race. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have known her since childhood," Falo chuckled.
Li Ang nodded, understanding part of the situation.
"Since your surname is Ernest, it seems you were born into a Haven group willing to communicate with the outside world; after all, Divine Artisan Ernest was a human," Li Ang said to Falo.
"The reason Aifei and I have known each other since childhood is because we’re considered distant cousins. Well, not that distant, actually. Our ancestor Ernest’s wife’s surname was Alma. Our family hasn’t branched out much, essentially passing down our lineage, so compared to the Weapon Race, we’re not considered distant, and we also have the privilege of entering the family territory."
"I understand now."
Li Ang continued, "So, the ’Martial Extreme Trial’ is some kind of barbaric tradition?"
"Mr. Li Ang, be careful not to let anyone other than Aifei in the Weapon Race hear that. Haha, that’s not what I said, though I do think so," Falo said, covering his mouth while laughing.
"Is it fighting in a sandpit wearing only loincloths?" Lily asked.
Li Ang saw the black-haired young girl’s eyes light up, as if she was very interested.
Does she like watching gladiatorial performances? Li Ang thought. Surely, she doesn’t want to join in herself?
"Uh, not exactly," Falo replied.
"But the barbarism isn’t far off. Indeed, there are segments where participants wield weapons in combat," he added.
"Then why is it troublesome?" Li Ang asked, "Doesn’t Elaphia have any strength left to threaten her?"
"Mr. Li Ang, isn’t it strange why Urbian has that attitude towards his sister?" Falo inquired.
Li Ang was stunned, "His own sister?"
The brown-haired Douding nodded.
Not only Li Ang, but Diao and the others also found it odd.
"So that’s how it is?"
Urbian’s previous attitude made Li Ang think there was a rift among the tribe members. However, when he heard the way Urbian addressed Aifei, it struck him as odd. At that time, Elaphia’s odd behavior occupied more of his attention.
"By your description, these matters are interrelated. Are there unique circumstances surrounding Elaphia?" Li Ang pondered.
"Seeing the way Urbian behaves, Mr. Li Ang definitely disciplined him severely. You should have seen his fighting style," Falo continued.
"That’s correct."
The Douding Family rarely has Warrior Professions. Even if they choose close-combat, they are mostly Assassins or agile attackers aided by Magic, relying on raw Power is rare.
"However, the Weapon Race is primarily a warrior-centric group. They transform into armor and sharp blades. When they fight, it’s like they merge with their weapons. Mr. Li Ang, you should understand that this Talent can give warriors a significant advantage."
"Indeed, it is."
Although Nebis’s professional paths are diverse, they can generally be categorized into a few basic types: Warrior, Assassin, Archer, Caster, and Support.
Among them, the first three, which focus on physical attacks, have their own emphases. Li Ang previously started getting familiar with Archers for their attack range and single-target breakthrough capabilities, while Assassins excel more in single-target breakthroughs and are more concealed, but their safety plummets once discovered.
The Warrior is a blend of both, using Power to wear Heavy Armor to enhance Defense, with Power also ensuring speed and the potency of heavy weapons to achieve high Defense and high Attack.
Even Nebis warriors utilize Magic Power; conventional warriors use it to enhance their physique. Hence, the generally weaker Douding Family and Beast-Earkin warriors are less common, particularly the former.
From Falo’s explanation, the Weapon Race is the opposite. Their peculiar bloodline allows them to control weapons with Talent Ability, compensating for shortcomings while gaining Combat Skills and base stats that far exceed ordinary people.
"I understand what you mean; within the same race, Aifei is considered an anomaly."
"Yes."
"Her practice as a Blade Master is also a path within the Weapon Race’s cultivation?"
"Their race holds opinions about this direction of cultivation, and it was a path created by someone later on. Traditionally, respect was always given to fighting through one’s own strength.
"The Martial Extreme Trial is also a martial arts tournament where one must fight relying on themselves."
Farlonio explained clearly.
"Blade Master, as the name suggests, is similar to how those Doudings use floating tools, launching weapons out, right?" Lily asked.
"More or less."
"Then how can it not be considered one’s own? Both in terms of Magic Power and skill, it’s their own," the black-haired young girl said.
"That’s true, but the situation is complex, which is why it’s difficult for her," Farlonio said with a slight, wry smile, shaking his head.
"In the Weapon Race, firstly, because the legendary God of Weapons was a warrior, they revere the way of the warrior. Secondly, this ritual and these trials are also set to select the ruling families, the tribe’s leader, and those qualified to enter the God of Weapons’ Treasure Vault."
"Those things sound like major affairs within their tribe," Diao remarked.
Even though she always follows the Ancient Witch path, learning about the outside world through tomes and revelatory dreams, she still can’t claim deep world wisdom, but she can see this layer of understanding.
