Chapter 489: Chapter 488: What-If: Did the Big Shot Compete for Favor Today? 57
Mu Tangfeng wasn’t stupid. Most of the time, he didn’t bother using his brain simply because he could solve problems with brute force, and there was always someone to clean up his messes.
But when he got serious, he could get into a top-tier university with just a few months of hard work.
Just like how he and Jiang Xia had instantly sensed it when Onyx’s personality changed.
Perhaps it was also because he had poured more attention into Onyx than anything else, so when it came to Onyx, Mu Tangfeng was always much more perceptive.
He mentally filed this away, but an inexplicable sour feeling grew in his heart.
’Maybe it’s because Yan Huoshui is a top student,’ he thought. ’Just like Brother He back then. Their grades were on par, so maybe that’s why the ’Cat Demon’ chose him and left me and Jiang Xia.’
Still, Mu Tangfeng couldn’t help but feel a bit of schadenfreude. So what if Yan Huoshui was a top student? Didn’t the ’Cat Demon’ run away from him, too?
’Tsk, maybe it went to the He Family.’
Thinking of this, Mu Tangfeng decided that if he ever returned to his human form, he would definitely go to the He Family’s house to check things out.
Shi Lan took Ping’an to a cat café to chat with her best friend for a while. After checking on the final touches of her shop’s renovation, she contentedly took it home.
On the way, they passed a supermarket, and Shi Lan bought some groceries. Recalling how much Ping’an had enjoyed the meat at lunch, she decided to make some cat food tonight to give it a better meal.
Unfortunately, just as Shi Lan finished preparing her carefully made dinner, and before Mu Tangfeng could even enjoy the food that smelled wonderful but looked terrible, he heard his mother’s loud KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK on his door. "Son, you’ve been sleeping all day! Are you awake? It’s fine that you skipped lunch, but you can’t skip dinner too."
Mu Tangfeng snapped awake, his mouth moving faster than his brain. "Mom, I’m awake, I’m awake."
After speaking, he shot up, his well-defined fingers clutching the blanket. He looked around his familiar bedroom, a dazed expression on his face, and muttered in confusion, "Was I... dreaming just now?"
Just then, Mrs. Mu pushed the door open, placed the food she was holding on the table next to him, and pushed it toward his bed.
"Go on, eat. I’ll have the maid come up to clean when you’re done."
"You kids these days, why do you stay up so late? Can’t you play your games during the day? Young people need to take care of their health. Even though you’re only nineteen and in your prime, a boy needs to build up a strong constitution early on. Don’t end up unable to have children later. Mom is still hoping to look after a grandchild one day."
Mrs. Mu was already worrying about such things. Mu Tangfeng truly couldn’t see the connection between being unable to have children and needing to maintain his health.
’Could my leg injury affect my fertility?’
’No, that’s not right. I’ve never even thought about getting married. Where would a child come from?’
That was his thought, but in that instant, Shi Lan’s face flashed through his mind. He quickly pushed the thought away, his ears turning red. Afraid his mother would notice something was off, he hurriedly urged her, "Alright, Mom, stop nagging me all day. Go eat your own dinner. I’m going to eat now."
Mrs. Mu shook her head helplessly, then turned, closed the door, and went downstairs.
Mu Tangfeng covered his hot ears and subconsciously opened his phone to check the news online.
The thing about Yan Huoshui was real. The time it was announced was also around when he had seen it in the afternoon.
So, it wasn’t a dream.
With this in mind, he lowered his gaze and began to eat.
After just two bites, he looked at the pig’s trotter and sea cucumber soup, steamed egg with deer antler, and braised pork ribs before him and frowned in distaste. The flavor was all wrong.
It wasn’t nearly as good as that stuff he’d eaten in the afternoon.
Disgusted as he was, Mu Tangfeng hadn’t eaten lunch and was starving, so he forced himself to eat half of it. He thought of the cat food Shi Lan had specially made for him that evening and felt annoyed at his mom’s impeccable timing.
After he finished eating, the maid came to clear the dishes. Mu Tangfeng told her to send the butler up.
When the butler arrived, Mu Tangfeng spoke immediately. "Order me a batch of snacks from this brand. I want the goat milk and meat paste flavor."
He handed him a slip of paper with the English word ’Myfoodie’ written on it.
The butler handled many of the household purchases, so after looking at it for a moment, he replied respectfully, "Second Young Master, is there a problem? I believe we just bought two cans two days ago. Onyx shouldn’t have finished them yet."
"Onyx? Who said they were for Onyx? I’m the one who’s going to eat them."
Mu Tangfeng frowned, and the butler’s expression instantly turned strange. "But... but... Second Young Master, these are cat treats. Are you sure you want to eat them...?" ℯℯ𝑙.
"What?"
Mu Tangfeng’s face stiffened. He belatedly realized that he had eaten that stuff as a cat, so it was only normal that he found cat treats delicious...
’That damn woman! How dare she feed me, the great Young Master of the Mu Family, cat treats????’
Mu Tangfeng felt like his mouth was tainted. He immediately had the butler help him to the bathroom to wash up.
He brushed his teeth several times in the bathroom before he could suppress the feeling of disgust in his heart.
The butler helped him back to bed and asked cautiously, "Young Master, should I still place the order?"
"Get out, get out, get out! No, I don’t need them!"
Mu Tangfeng shooed him away in a fit of anger, and the butler fled, looking relieved.
’Thank goodness,’ the butler thought. ’I was starting to wonder if the Young Master had developed pica. Although there’s no rule that says humans can’t eat cat treats, the kitchen can make anything the Young Master desires. Why would he need to eat processed foods like that?’
Mu Tangfeng hid under the covers, his face red, and couldn’t help but mumble and curse Shi Lan for feeding him cat treats. But soon, he started to think about it from her perspective and realized she hadn’t done anything wrong.
’Of course, cats can eat cat treats. How was she supposed to know his soul was human?’
A little while later, he started searching for the name of the cat café he had visited that day. He then found out that the shop was in L City, which happened to be where the university he got into was located.
Mu Tangfeng decided that once his leg healed, he would go check it out one way or another when he went back to school.
Meanwhile, back at Shi Lan’s apartment, Ping’an had obediently eaten every last bite of the cat food.
Shi Lan thought to herself, ’Looks like my first attempt wasn’t a failure.’
She washed the bowls and chopsticks, finished her own dinner, and then went back to binge-watching her show.
But late at night, loud BANGING noises came from upstairs, as if someone was moving things.
It seemed like someone had been moving in a while ago, and the commotion today sounded similar.
Shi Lan was a little puzzled. ’Did the upstairs tenant change?’ she wondered. ’Or maybe they have to do major renovations because of the leak last time.’ After a moment’s thought, she quickly refocused on the TV.
He Hanshi had put Assistant Chen in charge of this matter recently. The assistant was very efficient; he bought the apartment the day after receiving his orders, gave the occupant three days to move out, and had now begun moving in He Hanshi’s customary furniture.
To get closer to Shi Lan with a plausible reason, he contacted his cousin.
When Jiang Xia received He Hanshi’s call, he answered with a panicked look on his face and asked cautiously, "Cousin, what’s wrong?"
Arranged marriages were common in high society. Mrs. Jiang and Mr. He were siblings, and neither family had many children. So, when they were young, Mrs. Jiang would often take Jiang Xia to the He Family’s home, hoping he would play more with He Hanshi and, in the process, learn some of his good character.
But Jiang Xia was rather afraid of his older cousin, because every time he went to his house to play, He Hanshi would make him study or supervise his reading.
Compared to playing with his cousin, he much preferred going to the Mu Family’s house.
He Hanshi paid no mind to his tension, simply asking in a warm and concerned tone, "How’s university life? I remember you got into L City University of Technology, right?"
