Chapter 477: Chapter 476: What If: Did the Big Shot Vie for Favor Today? 45
The matter of the deleted video soon blew over. Under Ye Ming’s meticulous care, Shi Lan, as a kitten, changed day by day. Her fur grew smooth and glossy, she grew quite a bit bigger, and she looked very healthy.
After the kitten finished her vaccinations, Ye Ming finally started taking her out often. Occasionally, when he had a heavy course load, he would even bring her to class.
He only brought her because he was sure Fei Mo was well-behaved and wouldn’t cause a disturbance in class. Another reason was his worry that Fei Mo would get bored cooped up at home all day without her owner’s company, so he kept her by his side.
His students all loved Fei Mo when they saw her. Even the two classmates who had originally forced the cat on Ye Ming were surprised at how much she’d grown.
But they had to admit, their professor was raising her very well. The little kitten looked full of life, wasn’t afraid of strangers, was bold yet quiet, and never caused trouble. She was, simply put, everyone’s dream cat.
Whenever Shi Lan stretched lazily beside Ye Ming, many students would quietly gasp, unable to tear their eyes away. To avoid distracting everyone during class, she deliberately hid under the lectern, where no one but Ye Ming could see her.
But they could still get a look when class was over.
Unfortunately, this student perk of cat-watching was soon gone. Ye Ming stopped bringing the cat to the classroom. He realized that even though Fei Mo didn’t cause trouble, she still affected the students’ focus. He had no choice but to try and free up more time to play with her after his classes.
For Shi Lan, life with Ye Ming was wonderful too.
He was the most good-tempered and patient owner she had ever met. While her previous owners had been alright, Ye Ming seemed to have no temper at all.
Once, Shi Lan accidentally choked on some water and ended up vomiting all over him. Ye Ming didn’t say a word. He just looked at her worriedly, took off his soiled jacket, and rushed her to the vet for a check-up.
It turned out she had swallowed some fur, which had upset her stomach, and needed to be given a hairball remedy.
That night, Ye Ming held her for a long time, blaming himself. His eyes were slightly red as he kissed the kitten’s head, still shaken. "I’m sorry. I let you suffer. I haven’t been a good enough owner."
He had always thought that just providing all the necessary nutrients would be enough. But even though Fei Mo didn’t shed much, the occasional molting could still affect her.
Shi Lan hadn’t thought about it either. She groomed herself by licking her fur and had never noticed if she was swallowing any of it.
Besides, she hadn’t encountered this issue in her previous cat forms. She had never owned a cat herself, so she had no experience with this. In the end, she could only attribute it to being too small and having a weak immune system.
Even though Shi Lan had been the one to soil Ye Ming’s clothes, he was the one who ended up feeling guilty. He even started taking care of her with even greater, more meticulous attention.
In short, as an owner, Ye Ming was truly flawless.
Perhaps he was too good, or perhaps her "cat transmigration experience" subscription had ended. Shi Lan stayed with Ye Ming the longest—from early spring to the height of summer. Finally, just when Shi Lan thought things would stay this way forever, she left again, the day before Ye Ming was set to move after being accepted into the university’s doctoral program.
Just the night before, Ye Ming had told her he’d bought a house right outside the school gates and had already set up a dedicated pet room for her.
He said his doctoral studies would likely be very busy and he might not be able to be with her all the time, so he’d filled the house with toys for her. He’d also installed a camera in the living room, and she could press a red button on it whenever she missed him.
He had also hired a chef who would make her special cat meals according to her usual dining habits if he was too busy...
Ye Ming had said so much that night. In all his plans for the future, Shi Lan, as a cat, was always carefully accounted for. It got to the point where she, too, began to look forward to their new life in the new house.
Who would have thought that she would wake up in a different place again?
But, thank heavens, she was back in her own body.
Sitting on her bed and looking at her human hands, Shi Lan felt a little strange. She had been a cat for nearly a year. The cat’s life had felt so real, yet now it seemed like an unreal dream.
After being in a daze for a while, she couldn’t help but search for the magazine with Yan Huoshui. She saw the issue they had shot together, and she also saw that the three-million-dollar "Clever Stray Cat" campaign was still ongoing online.
None of it was a dream.
It was real!
Shi Lan didn’t understand why she had suddenly turned into a cat, much less why she had appeared by those people’s sides only to suddenly return...
But finally being human again was a good thing. She could finally eat spicy food and hot pot to her heart’s content, without worrying about a cat’s delicate stomach.
Shi Lan excitedly got out of bed, freshened up, and changed into a new outfit. Just then, her best friend called, and she immediately answered.
"Lanlan, are you ready to leave?"
Shi Lan paused. "Huh?"
Her friend on the other end said helplessly, "You didn’t forget again, did you? Didn’t we make plans to get hot pot and see a movie today? It’s my day off."
Hearing the words "hot pot," Shi Lan eagerly agreed. She still had no idea what was going on, but her stomach was already primed for a feast.
"Oh, right, Xinyi, can you send me the hot pot place’s location again? I forgot the full name."
"Oh, you..."
As Chen Xinyi spoke, something seemed to occur to her, and she added worriedly, "Don’t leave the house yet. I’ll just come pick you up. We can go together."
Shi Lan, not wanting to trouble her, said, "I can get there myself. Just send me the location."
"It’s no trouble. We don’t live far from each other anyway. Wait for me, and don’t leave the house!"
Her best friend’s voice was a bit stern. Shi Lan blinked in confusion and blankly agreed.
They quickly ended the call. Staring at the dark screen of her phone, her mind was still filled with questions that urgently needed answers.
’Going by what my best friend said, while I was a cat, my body was still living life as normal. Even she didn’t notice anything was wrong. Could it be... that someone else transmigrated into my body?’
A chill ran down Shi Lan’s spine at the thought.
A short while later, Chen Xinyi arrived. She had driven over and was waiting downstairs from Shi Lan’s apartment.
Shi Lan temporarily pushed her questions aside and immediately went downstairs.
Upon seeing her, Chen Xinyi breathed a sigh of relief, then studied her face. "Lanlan, how did you sleep last night?"
Not understanding the reason for the question, Shi Lan nodded. "Pretty well."
"That’s good, then."
Chen Xinyi gave her a few more glances, and her expression seemed to relax a little.
Soon, the two arrived at the hot pot restaurant. Knowing that Shi Lan didn’t like crowded places, she had specifically chosen a private room.
After they sat down and ordered some of their favorite dishes, Chen Xinyi watched her for a long moment before she finally couldn’t hold it in any longer. "Lanlan, you’re not feeling uncomfortable anywhere, are you?"
Shi Lan thought she was being a little strange. "What’s wrong?"
Hearing this, Chen Xinyi said cautiously, "Let me tell you, for a while there, it was like you’d lost your soul."
