Chapter 487: 487-A Plan To Murder Someone

Verity:

Oswin had orchestrated this entire thing just so he could slap the label of slut on me whenever he wanted.

He was the one who had come up with this revenge plan, and now he was turning it against me, slut-shaming me for doing exactly what he’d told me to do.

But that wasn’t even the worst part.

The worst part was that I still had to go to the cabin that evening.

I had no other choice, or he would do the very thing I dreaded most.

He would expose the most terrifying truth of my life.

And if he revealed it, everything would be over.

"We’ll have to manipulate him emotionally," I muttered, wiping away my tears with the back of my hand before pulling myself together.

"How? How are we supposed to do that?" my wolf complained.

I began pacing around my bedroom, running a hand through my hair.

It wouldn’t be the first time he’d tried something like this, although he seemed far more determined now that I no longer had to preserve my virginity.

"There had been moments before when he’d wanted to take things further, and I’d somehow managed to trick him into waiting."

I paused, nodding thoughtfully to myself before throwing my head back and staring at the ceiling.

"I’m not sure it’ll work this time. His body seems to be responding so aggressively to everything lately that I doubt he’ll listen to me anymore."

My wolf had every reason to be worried. Even I’d noticed the change in him, but surely there was something we could do.

I wasn’t about to sit back and let him do whatever he pleased with me.

"What are you thinking?" my wolf asked and I drew a deep breath.

"It’s true that he knows a lot about me," I remarked, walking over to my wardrobe and pulling out a black dress with a plunging neckline and a frilled skirt.

I knew my wolf was concerned.

Dressing like this might only fuel his anger.

He’d be perfectly happy stripping my clothes off himself, but the thought of me choosing what to wear would probably infuriate him.

"I’m going to need you today. More than I’ve ever needed you before," I murmured. "You have to fight for me today, even if it means putting your life on the line. In that cabin, only one of us is coming out alive, and it has to be us."

The moment those words left my mouth, I felt my wolf gradually settle down, as though she couldn’t have agreed more.

"Besides, Oswin doesn’t have anyone constantly watching over him. He mostly keeps to himself," I remarked with a smirk as I began applying my makeup. "All we have to do is make sure we cover our tracks properly. We’ll need to hide his body and get rid of anything that could lead back to us."

It was time to get rid of him.

I sprayed on some perfume and slipped a bracelet around my wrist.

As I did, I accidentally pulled open a drawer that no longer belonged to me.

My gaze fell on Ragnar’s belongings, and I inhaled deeply.

"We won’t even need to take time off. We’ll finish everything today and be back before anyone notices," I assured my wolf, shutting the drawer and grabbing my bag.

Enough time had passed, and I needed to go meet Oswin.

This would be the first time I was going to spill someone’s blood in such a calculated way.

I’d already made plenty of use of Oswin, and he’d helped me more times than I could count, especially whenever I needed money, wanted something arranged to help me excel in an interview, or needed to get rid of people who wouldn’t leave me alone.

In a strange way, it felt good.

At least now Oswin would learn that he wasn’t the only one who knew how to play games.

The real satisfaction would come when he finally realized that I’d been playing him all along.

Once I was ready, I took a cab to a secluded area.

From there, I slung my shoulder bag over my shoulder and started walking down the road toward his cabin, our secret meeting place.

The funny thing was, he had no idea I hadn’t brought any of those bags he’d asked me to bring.

In fact, he’d brought one himself, filled with lingerie for me, probably because he’d suspected I wouldn’t bring mine.

That had made my job easier, because the only bag I’d brought contained everything I needed to get rid of him.

As I reached the cabin door, I drew a deep breath before pushing it open.

He was sitting shirtless on the couch.

"Ah, I’ve been waiting for you for quite a while," he greeted me with a cocky grin.

He beckoned me inside with two fingers, and I obeyed, dropping my bag near the entrance.

I noticed his gaze travel over me before settling on my bag.

"Where’s your other bag?" he asked.

Of course, it wasn’t as though he’d packed just one himself.

He’d brought several bags filled with all sorts of filthy things he wanted to use.

"We won’t be needing it," I replied, slowly approaching him.

"Why? Planning to spend the whole day naked with me?" he teased, licking his bottom lip.

"Is that what you want? For me to stay without clothes?"

I watched his smirk widen at my question.

"Ah, Oswin," I sighed, making my way around the couch.

"You know, your brother was always worried about you," he continued. "He used to wonder what would happen to his little sister after he was gone." He chuckled at the memory. "And I always told him, ’You don’t need to worry about her. I’m here to take care of her.’"

My jaw clenched so tightly it hurt as I glared at him.

"And look at us now. Fate has brought us together after all. So tell me, don’t you think we were always destined to be together?" he asked, his lips forming a playful pout.
