Chapter 476: 476-He Wants Me To Heal His Heart

Verity:

I bit my bottom lip, trying to come up with the perfect response.

But nothing came to mind at that moment.

Ragnar had completely ruined all my progress.

I’d been feeling so confident before.

But then Ragnar had suddenly entered my life, acting the way he did, and now everything felt so confusing.

I didn’t know what to make of any of it.

I was so lost in my thoughts, staring at my phone and reading the same message over and over again, that I nearly jumped out of my skin when the door suddenly burst open.

I nearly had a heart attack.

I was so startled that my phone slipped right out of my hand and landed on the bed.

When I looked up, Ragnar was standing in the doorway, wearing nothing but his pants.

He was already so tall that it looked almost strange to see him resting his hands on top of the doorframe while leaning forward.

"What is it?" I asked, still startled.

The faint light from the living room fell against his back, making him look strangely intimidating, almost like some kind of monster.

And then I noticed his muscles.

They looked even more prominent now. His abs, his arms, his entire body.

He knew he looked godly.

He definitely knew.

He just kept staring at me, his arms bent and his hands resting on top of the doorframe as he leaned against it.

Then he tilted his head.

I noticed how brightly his eyes were shining.

"Do you need anything?" I asked.

He slowly lowered his hands from the doorframe and began walking into the room.

He didn’t even bother turning around as he pushed the door shut behind him, continuing straight toward the bed.

I gripped my blanket with trembling hands, wondering what was going on.

Then he climbed onto the bed on all fours.

Without breaking eye contact, he began crawling toward me.

I quickly grabbed the blanket and pulled it over my head, slowly sliding down until I was lying flat on my back.

I felt so embarrassed doing that.

I heard a quiet chuckle.

But then I felt the pressure of his body shift away from me as he settled onto the other side of the bed.

I cautiously pulled the blanket away from my face.

He was lying on his stomach, one arm tucked beneath his pillow while the other hung lazily over the edge of the bed.

"I couldn’t sleep. Couldn’t get comfortable on the couch," he explained, almost as though he knew I was watching him.

Well, he did.

Because when I glanced up, I noticed the mirror.

My dressing table was right beside the bed, and from where he was lying, he had a clear view of me through its reflection.

He’d been watching me the entire time.

I was sitting up slightly, stealing glances at him, while his eyes remained open, watching me nonstop through the mirror.

Then my gaze fell on his back.

There was a scratch on it.

A very visible one.

I immediately began wondering where he’d gotten it from.

I hadn’t scratched him.

"What’s this?" I asked, leaning down to gently touch his back.

But he was quick to reach behind himself and catch my hand.

Before I could even process what was happening, he had turned around completely, pulling my hand toward him until he was facing me.

"I was just checking," I blurted out.

"There’s a scratch on your back," I mumbled.

"It looks new. But you didn’t get scratched, did you?"

I had no idea why I kept talking when he was glaring at me like he wanted me to drop the subject.

But when I didn’t, his eyes narrowed.

This time, his expression made it perfectly clear that he wanted me to shut the fuck up.

"I’m just asking so I can put some ointment on it. You know, so it heals."

The moment I said that, his grip on my hand tightened.

He applied just enough pressure to make me twist around on the bed, pulling me down as he shifted his body over mine.

He didn’t even bother getting up.

He simply rolled onto his side and moved over me, still holding my hand firmly in his grasp.

"Ragnar," I breathed, saying his name in a shaky whisper.

He was still holding my hand, and suddenly, he pressed it firmly against his chest, right over his heart.

With his other hand, he pinned my arm beside me, making sure I couldn’t fight back.

Not that I was going to.

"You wanna heal?" he asked breathlessly.

"Then heal this."

He rubbed my hand against his chest, and I made no attempt to pull away.

Instead, I curled my fingers against him, taking deep and heavy breaths.

His face was only inches from mine.

Our breaths mingled.

"Fix this," he continued.

I could tell he’d taken a shower in the guest bathroom while I was in mine. His skin was still fresh and clean.

Then he slowly leaned toward my ear.

"Because I am done playing like it doesn’t hurt," he whispered.

I felt his teeth close gently around the edge of my ear, biting just enough for me to feel it without causing any pain.

"And if you don’t let me sleep tonight, or give me a day of peace..."

He suddenly released my ear, almost as though he’d realized what he was doing.

That was when I noticed his hands were shaking.

He was still holding mine, gripping it with so much pressure that I knew he’d probably leave bruises.

And I wasn’t complaining.

But there was something deeply emotional about him right now.

Something almost desperate.

"Because if you don’t..." he continued, his voice strained.

"I’ll fucking end up fucking you."

My eyes flew wide open, and I sucked in a sharp breath.

It felt like walking straight into the sun.

Hearing Ragnar say something like that, with so much emotion in his voice, was absolutely insane.

He suddenly let go of me and pulled away to the side.

I quickly scrambled to my feet.

I didn’t even understand why I did that.

I jumped off the bed and ran straight out of the bedroom, only stopping when I reached the kitchen, where I stood taking deep, heavy breaths.

But, well, it seemed like he’d been right.

I’d awakened something inside him.

Because he came right after me.
