Chapter 473: 473-The Psycho

Verity:

He looked up at me with tears welling in his wide eyes, and once again, the same question escaped his lips.

"Do you have feelings for Ragnar?"

This time, he’d broadened the question, making it even harder for me to answer.

I watched him silently, my head tilted to one side.

I could simply say no and put his mind at ease.

But why would I do that? Why would I go so far as to lie just to comfort him?

"Lie?"

The moment my wolf howled that word inside me, I immediately straightened my posture.

"I mean, it isn’t like I want to admit I have feelings for Ragnar. That was why I was calling it a lie."

I quickly corrected myself, realizing that little slip had happened without me even noticing.

"But I’m asking you something," Jaguar pressed, just as curious as my wolf, refusing to let the question go unanswered.

I drew in a deep breath and lowered my head.

"Jaguar, it’s hard for me because..." I paused, clutching the fabric of my top over my chest as though I were trying to hold my heart in place. "I can’t understand these feelings. At first, I thought that since I felt the mate bond with you and Theodore, I would eventually feel it with Ragnar, too. I mean, why would the Moon Goddess make me the mate of two brothers and leave out the third? But these feelings... I just don’t understand them."

When I turned back toward Jaguar, he had already risen from the floor and was glaring at me, his fists clenched tightly at his sides.

"But I don’t... I don’t like him."

I had no idea why those words slipped out, and the realization immediately frustrated me.

Or perhaps I’d said them because I got scared of him.

After all, why would I openly admit to having feelings for Ragnar when I was supposedly claiming that I wanted to be with Jaguar and Theodore?

"We’re getting married," Jaguar declared suddenly, making my eyebrows draw together.

"What?" I asked, utterly confused.

"You heard me. We’re getting married."

He spoke as though he’d already made the decision for both of us.

I shook my head slightly, wondering if I’d heard him correctly.

"You, me, and Theodore."

The moment those words left his mouth, I gasped and instinctively pulled away from him.

However, he was quick to continue.

"We’ll sit down tomorrow, and you’ll tell Theodore that you’re rejecting him. You’ll tell him you’re done with him, that you’re never going to see Ragnar again, and that you and I are getting married."

He gestured between us, pointing first at me and then at himself as though everything had already been settled.

"You can’t make that decision for me," I stated firmly.

But for a brief moment, I noticed the corner of his mouth curl upward.

There was a silent threat lurking in his eyes, though I couldn’t begin to understand what he was implying.

He merely chuckled and took a step back.

"Oh, you’ll do exactly what I say, Verity," he warned in a deep, gruff voice.

Then, without offering another word of explanation, he turned around and walked out of my house.

The moment Jaguar stepped outside, I locked the door, afraid he might return and reveal exactly why he’d been so cocky about me agreeing to marry him.

I immediately hurried toward the bedroom, hoping Ragnar had overheard that part of our conversation.

Maybe he knew something. Perhaps he could help me figure out what the hell his brother was planning.

The strangest thing was that I’d spent all this time telling Ragnar I wanted to be with his brothers, yet the mere thought of Jaguar deciding we were getting married had scared the living daylights out of me.

I mean, I could always use the excuse that I couldn’t choose between Theodore and Jaguar.

Or perhaps I could dump this entire mess on Theodore’s shoulders, knowing damn well that once he found out, he would stop his brother from making such a decision.

Surely, Theodore wouldn’t let something like that slide so easily.

Unless, of course, this whole situation had made him dislike me so much that he no longer cared.

My mind was running in a hundred different directions, and it certainly didn’t help that one of these demons was now living under my roof, apparently convinced he was part of the household.

When I finally opened the bedroom door, I was met with a sight that I couldn’t decide whether to find relieving or disappointing.

Ragnar wasn’t behind the door.

That stupid man had left my shoes there instead, and I had a feeling he’d done it deliberately.

All this time, I’d assumed he was listening to everything. Maybe he had been, but how could I possibly know now?

And how the hell was I supposed to approach him and ask him to stop his brother from marrying me?

I’d been counting on him overhearing the conversation so I wouldn’t have to explain it myself.

Letting out a frustrated grunt, I went over to the bathroom, certain he must be hiding in there.

But he wasn’t.

It wasn’t until I glanced around the bedroom again that I noticed the open window.

Had he seriously jumped out of the window when Jaguar arrived?

Of course, he wouldn’t want to hurt his brother any more than he already had.

But then why had he been acting so confidently, strutting around my house as though he owned the place?

Before I could make sense of it, the doorbell rang again.

I rolled my eyes, desperately hoping it wasn’t Jaguar returning to torment me.

But if it was Theodore, perhaps I could tell him what his brother was planning.

Okay, that was a plan.

Clinging to that possibility, I rushed out of the bedroom, hurried to the front door, and pulled it open without a second thought.

And guess who was standing on the other side?

The big demon himself.

Ragnar was wearing a wide, almost psychotic smile, made even more unsettling by the fact that it didn’t reach his eyes.

His lips were curved upward, but there wasn’t a trace of warmth in his gaze.
