Chapter 462: 462-The Main

Verity:

I kept staring at his face, expecting him to stop talking at some point, but he seemed incapable of keeping his curiosity to himself.

There was an unmistakable urgency in the way he kept questioning me, almost as though he was afraid that if I walked away, he would never get another opportunity to find out what had happened.

"You know, you really don’t need to take such an interest in my personal life," I told him, my tone coming out more like a warning than I had intended.

Strangely enough, whatever agitation he had been showing disappeared almost instantly.

He casually slipped both hands into his pants pockets and smiled at me, looking completely at ease.

I didn’t know why, but something about that smile struck me as dangerous.

It made me so uncomfortable that I lost whatever little desire I had left to continue the conversation.

Just as I was about to turn away, I noticed a purple car pulling up outside the building, and I immediately recognized it.

It was Gigi’s purple sports car.

Before she could get out and start questioning me, I decided it would be better to leave.

Without wasting another second, I hurried away from the building and headed briskly toward the road.

Once I reached it, I glanced over my shoulder, worried that Gigi might have decided to follow me.

I mean, her soon-to-be fiancé was missing, so naturally, she would be busy throwing accusations at anyone she could get her hands on.

But strangely enough, she wasn’t coming after me.

Instead, I spotted her standing face-to-face with Bruno, and the expression on his face was unlike anything I had ever seen before.

Or perhaps I had seen that look before, whenever I found myself standing face-to-face with Gigi.

Well, I didn’t have the time to stand around listening to their conversation.

For one thing, they were standing out in the open, where either of them could easily spot me.

Besides, I was worried that Theodore might tell Jaguar at any moment that what happened last night wasn’t an isolated incident.

There had been other encounters, too, and once Jaguar found out, there was no telling how quickly they would come after me.

Thankfully, I had already booked a cab, so I started walking farther down the road rather than waiting outside the building.

By the time it caught up with me, I was far enough away to climb in without worrying about anyone noticing.

The moment I settled into my seat, a smile began creeping across my face.

Fine, I had felt Theodore’s pain earlier when he was practically falling apart in front of me, but now that I was far away from him, I couldn’t help feeling so fucking proud of myself.

God, I wished I could always keep this much distance between us, somewhere I wouldn’t have to share their suffering but could still watch them go through it.

Theodore must have told Jaguar everything by now, which meant he was probably experiencing the same heartbreak.

Ah, how I wished I could witness every second of it.

"Well, the fact that Ragnar is so distraught that he’s left home and is nowhere to be found makes this an even bigger victory," my wolf chimed in.

I couldn’t help chuckling as I gazed out the window.

"I hope he’s rotting somewhere," I hissed, unable to suppress my satisfaction.

After everything that had happened, Ragnar’s relationship wasn’t just going to suffer with his brothers.

His relationship with Gigi was bound to take a major hit, too.

And that thought alone was enough to make me smile as I casually began inspecting my nails.

"So, what’s the plan now?" my wolf asked.

"I want to break these brothers completely. And once they’re shattered beyond repair, I’ll find some way to expose Gigi for who she really is," I replied.

However, there was still one thing bothering me.

I couldn’t quite figure out the truth behind those videos I had seen, especially the thumbnails.

Could Justin seriously have done something like that?

I paused, burying my face in my hands as another thought began troubling me.

"And what if those videos aren’t just misleading thumbnails? What if there’s actual footage proving what happened? Would it really be right to put these brothers through so much suffering?" I questioned my wolf, who responded with an inward groan.

"Theodore, I can understand. Even Jaguar, to some extent. But do you really think what we’re doing to Ragnar is justified?" I pressed.

This time, she had no answer.

Because, from everything I knew so far, Ragnar’s crime was that he had stolen my brother’s mate.

He had started an affair with a woman who was already mated and pregnant, and not only had he supported her betrayal, but he had also helped her terminate her pregnancy.

At least, that was what I had been told.

But Theodore and Jaguar were a different story.

Even now, I couldn’t bring myself to think about their crimes, let alone put them into words.

Anyway, throughout the cab ride, I remained in a ridiculously good mood, enjoying the satisfaction of knowing how badly things had fallen apart for them.

My phone kept buzzing with messages and calls from Jaguar.

Most of his texts contained nothing but question marks, while the only actual question he seemed capable of asking was,

"How could you do this to me?"

As I scrolled through his messages, I couldn’t help remembering my own brother.

Hadn’t Justin asked Gigi that exact same question?

And hadn’t they sent their warriors after him, ordering them to strip him naked and beat him just to humiliate him for daring to send that message?

Yet here was Jaguar, bombarding me with calls and texts, demanding answers as though he had every right to question me.

Why shouldn’t I treat him the same way?

Maybe I should send someone after him, too, just to make him experience the same humiliation my brother had endured.

But no.

I didn’t need to go that far, because these brothers were already doing a perfectly good job of humiliating one another.
