Chapter 2823: Quietly Waiting for Her

Li Mingxi’s face flushed bright red.

She used her hair to cover her neck and hurried back to her office.

Then she called Xiaohan and told her to bring a bottle of medicine up for her.

Xiaohan arrived not long after and handed her the medicine.

"Director, here’s what you asked for."

Li Mingxi kept her head down, pretending to be working, her head bowed very low.

"Just leave it there, go do your work."

Xiaohan walked a few steps, then couldn’t help turning back. "Director, that man was Mr. Xiao, right?"

"What?" Li Mingxi lifted her head slightly and saw the teasing smile on Xiaohan’s face.

"The one you had a date with today, that was Mr. Xiao, right? I heard it was Mr. Xiao who dropped you off at work this morning."

Li Mingxi gritted her teeth, her eyes narrowing dangerously.

"Xiaohan, since you’re so free, you can be responsible for cleaning this entire floor today. That’s settled. If you don’t finish, I’ll dock a day’s pay!"

Xiaohan: "..."

She admitted she was wrong, wasn’t that enough?

Xiaohan left on the verge of tears, and Li Mingxi was so angry she couldn’t work.

She took the medicine and went into the inner washroom.

Facing the mirror, Li Mingxi rubbed the medicine onto the hickey with a heavy hand, massaging it hard for a while. The congestion dispersed and the hickey disappeared.

Looks like she really needed to keep a bottle of this stuff on hand, just in case.

Then she immediately despised herself. What did she mean "just in case"?

Did she actually want Xiao Lang to plant a few more on her neck?

No matter how much Li Mingxi didn’t want to get off work, time still passed quickly, and it was time to clock out.

But hospitals don’t really have a fixed off-duty time.

In general, you can only leave once you’ve finished the day’s workload.

But as the director, she could technically leave whenever she wanted.

Today, however, Li Mingxi decided to play the workaholic and only go home after she’d finished tomorrow’s workload.

"Director, you’re still not leaving?" Xiaohan pushed the door open and asked in confusion.

"You go ahead. I still have some work to finish." Li Mingxi answered.

"Okay, then I’ll head out first."

Xiaohan left. Many of the doctors and nurses had already gone, leaving only those on duty.

The sky grew darker and darker.

Li Mingxi still had no intention of leaving.

She was already the type to throw herself into her work, and with this deliberate show of diligence, she finished the next day’s tasks in no time.

"How come there’s so little?" Li Mingxi complained that there wasn’t enough work.

"Might as well do the day after tomorrow’s too."

She had to prepare a medical report for the day after tomorrow, and she finished that in less than an hour as well.

The clock on her desk was already pointing to nine o’clock.

Li Mingxi sighed. No matter how much she didn’t want to go back, she had to.

She picked up her handbag and could only call it a day.

At this hour, the hospital was very quiet.

There were hardly any cars outside anymore.

When Li Mingxi walked to the hospital entrance, she saw Xiao Lang leaning against the car door.

Whenever he went out, he always wore a shirt; his attire was invariably that formal.

In the stillness of the night, Xiao Lang’s tall, slender figure standing there was like a striking line of scenery.

When he saw her, his gaze was calm, as if he had been there waiting for her all along.

Whether she came or not, he just waited quietly, without the slightest impatience or restlessness.

Even if he had to stand there waiting for ten years, a hundred years, a thousand years, he would still be there.

Something slammed hard against Li Mingxi’s heart.

If only... if only she could be with him without any burden, that would be so good...

As long as she could be with him, she would be the happiest woman in the world.

But she couldn’t...
