Fated: The Alpha's Unwanted Luna
Chapter 585: Being Enticed To The Other Side_Part 2
"But I need your help this time around," Nick continued. "I didn’t want to show myself to you, but after noticing how you have become like me, an outcast, what better reason is there for us to work together?"
Laila’s heart thudded, for even though she had tried to convince herself otherwise, she was afraid of this psycho who had killed a childhood friend who had loved him. She forced her voice to stay steady. "What makes you think I will work with you?"
"Because we are alike in a way. Haven’t you always wanted Sebastian? You can have him after I have what is mine. I won’t kill him for you." He bargained with her calmly, gauging her expression and knowing what she thought even before she voiced it.
Laila let out a short, humorless laugh, though her pulse was racing. Did he truly believe she was that pathetic? Whatever she had once felt for Sebastian was long gone, and she wouldn’t let Nick use them as bait to lure her. Laila had grown fond of Zoe before he killed her, and she was just as bitter and angry about the she-wolf’s death as anyone who had known her.
"No thank you, I am not interested in the offer. You are a criminal who will be killed the moment it is known you’re back."
Nick laughed. "If you think you can tell on me to catch me, I am no longer catchable, Laila. I have grown more powers, and I can share them with you if you work with me. What do you say?" He held out his hand, dark smoke curling from his fingers, as he told her, "I can give you back the grace and social status you’ve lost. I can make those two bitches who shoved you out kneel right here before you and kiss your feet, and do you want to know something else..."
For one traitorous second, Laila’s eyes went to the glass doors of the mall, to the spot where Lorna and Annie had stood laughing, and she pictured them on their knees. The image tasted sweet, and that frightened her more than the smoke rising from his hand. She dragged her gaze away and forced herself to breathe.
He moved closer to her, coming to whisper in her ear, like a convincing devil. "I can make you work against your will for me, but I don’t want to. I want to win back my woman slowly this time around, and I want you helping me on your own. I need her love, and I need to remind her how much she loves me. Think about all the advantages you get from this too."
Laila stood frozen, the cold air biting at her wet clothes, with only one thought in her mind: whatever she said next, she had to be careful, because the safety of the Alpha and his family might depend on it, for this man was crazy!
---
The winter sun slowly dipped below the horizon, leaving the healing house surrounded by biting cold and howling winds. Snow swept across the grounds and piled along the edges of the driveway as cars rolled through the gates, their engines rumbling as they approached the entrance. Beyond the glass doors, the healing house stood brightly lit against the darkening winter evening, its warmth a stark contrast to the freezing world outside.
Viola’s eyes slowly opened to the dim room. The pain she remembered feeling in her body before she passed out was barely there, as her wolf had begun to heal her inside and out. The first thing she did was place a hand against her stomach, which had gone down, and she sighed in relief as she turned her head.
The room was dim and almost dark, if not for the nightstand dim lamp and the TV playing on mute. Viola turned to the other side and saw that she was alone in the room, and she wondered where her babies were. As though she had summoned them with that thought, the door opened and Sebastian walked in, carrying a baby on each arm.
Viola smiled upon seeing him and immediately opened her arms, wanting to hold them, but Sebastian didn’t walk up to her, nor was he smiling. Her hands fell to her sides as she stared at him where he stood in the shadows.
"Seb..." She called, frowning. "I want to see the babies." She said, wondering why he didn’t look happy, and she pushed herself up from the bed, dislodging the IV drip from her hand, and went to him to see their babies.
Viola peeked down at them, only for her stomach to drop at the gruesome sight. Their throats were slit open, and she jumped back in horror, looking up at Sebastian only to see that his throat was also slit and his eyes looked empty, like those of a dead body. Viola gasped, stepping back as she saw him fall along with their babies, and the floor beneath them turned to water, sinking them.
Viola fell into the water, trying to swim towards them as their bodies sank into the depths. However, no matter how much she tried, she couldn’t reach Sebastian or the babies, and she began to scream, wanting to reach them as the leaves of the Root of Life wrapped around them, closing them off from her.
Viola’s heart felt so empty and heavy at the sight that she struggled until she gasped awake with a scream in her throat.
"Amor?" Came Sebastian’s voice as he perched on the side of the bed, looking at her tear-soaked face, and Viola turned to look at him almost in relief as she threw her arms around his neck and hugged him.
"You’re all right." She cried, tightening her arms around him, and Sebastian put his arm around her waist, careful not to hold her too tight, as he knew she was still healing.
"I am fine, did you have a nightmare?" He questioned her, and she bobbed her head against his shoulder without releasing him.
Sebastian rubbed her back gently with his hand, assuring her, "You’re fine, everything will be all right." He buried his nose in the crook of her neck, and then he moved back from the hug and reached out to the nightstand, pouring water into a glass cup and handing it to her to drink, as her voice had sounded hoarse.
Viola reached for the water gratefully, but before she drank it, she asked him, "What about the babies? Can I see them?"
